Intense and gripping from the very start. The car crash at the beginning sets the scene for what it is to come in this sense.

Sadly, after such a promising blurb, I really struggled to get into this book. In fact, I have tried on two attempts, and had to force myself to finish this on the second attempt.

I didn't like the characters and couldn't really get into this story due to the fact that it was too slow for my liking.

I did, however, enjoy this author's writing style, and would therefore try another of her books.

A really good thriller with a unique plot, this book really kept me gripped and I raced through it, I couldn't put it down!
Not predictable and really interesting characters. Great read which is very atmospheric.

Gripping from start to finish. My heart broke for the main character and how messed up life had made her. I was wishing for a happy ending and in a way, I think I got it. Twists and turns in every chapter and a book I thoroughly enjoyed.

The synopsis of this book had me wanting to read more and more. But I find myself writing a mixed review.

The first part of this book had me intrigued and then it just seemed to lose me. I’m not sure why, but it just seemed to peak and then fold.

It’s a bit for me, but maybe for others.

This is a well constructed, brilliantly paced thriller that draws you in from the start.
The characters in this story are believable and realistic and they really added new depths to the book.

This was quite an intriguing tale where the story started with a bang where Andrea was in an accident where she vaguely remembered seeing a man who seemed to be her twin last seen when her parents' home was on fire.

I liked the beginning, the story then set in the normal path as thrillers went. The characters were well developed, but the plotline seemed predictable. Initially past and present were confusing, then I got used. to it. Overall, a good read.

Starts well, but didn’t hold my attention.

When I started reading ‘What My Sister Knew’ I thought it would hold my attention. However, I managed to get to 38% on my Kindle, but the plot seemed to drag for me. I’m so used to fast-paced novels, and this did not work.

I usually find that my personal opinion is very similar to the majority of other reviewers. Unfortunately this time I simply lost interest, hence only two stars.

Right from the first page you're dropped in immediate turmoil and suspense, I could barely read fast enough to find out what happened on the next page.
As the story gradually unfolds, you learn more about the twins and their upbringing - certain you have it all figured out and who's the real villain in the story, only to have everything thrown into doubt and chaos mere pages later.
A fantastically multilayered mystery with a surprisingly satisfying resolution.

Andrea's twin brother, Eli was in prison. He started a fire that killed their parents. Andrea had to try and put the past behind her and get on with her new life. Andrea had been disfigured during the fire. Now the police have come to tell Andrea that her brother has allegedly killed again, not .one after he had been released.

Eli had been in prison for fifteen years. Andrea had been in a ar crash which had started off a chain of events that occur at the same time as her Eli's release. I did figure out where this story was going quite early on. I wasn't keen on any of the two main characters. The story starts off well then it dipped a bit in the middle. This is quite a quick and easy book to read.

3 star read- this was a quick read within 1 day, it was structured well and written great but at times i was confused.. but overall this book was a good read though recommend to anyone though!

Andrea and Eli are twin sister and brother. Like most stories that revolve twins, their connection and relationship is deeper and darker than it initially may seem. Following narratives of both their childhood, adolescent and adult lives, we see them tackle bullying, witnessing domestic abuse, tell lies and manipulate each other with an unsettling ease. One night, it all becomes too much and the twins face an event that will change their lives forever; the loss of their parents in a blazing fire. 15 years on, Andrea sees her brother's face splayed across the television, a wanted man, again... Now, Andrea must revisit the demons of her past to unravel the mysteries that surround her bother and their relationship. Who are you really Eli and what have you done?


Pros
When I started to read this book I was hooked, so much so that I read half of it in a day! Laurin captivatingly draws you into the narrative by introducing the twins as adults, allowing you to see the fallout from the events that happened during their childhood. She slowly incorporates snippets from their youth, enabling the reader to see what has caused the twins to, quite frankly, become so psychologically unbalanced. For me, the balance between the two was perfect, as once I was engrossed in one story line, it would then switch to the other to keep me on my toes. Lauren articulates the events very carefully, she keeps you guessing, but through revealing secrets, either in the present or past, I was continually changing my mind on what was going to happen next. I particularly liked that she used the first-person narrative, via Andrea, to tell the present-day story, whilst using the third person to describe the events of the past. Personally, this allowed me to clearly distinguish between the two storylines, especially since my ARC was not split up into chapters.


Cons
Whilst the first half of the book was gripping, I felt the latter half was slightly rushed. I can recall reading one passage and thinking, "wait she's doing what now?" because what Andrea was doing simply didn't connect to the previous passage or fit into the storyline at that present moment. This continued throughout until I reached the end of the novel, where I was left saying, "hold on did the book just end?" I was quite shocked at how the book came to such an abrupt ending, I even flicked forward a few pages to see if the e-book was moved the last pages, sadly it had not. I did feel slightly annoyed at the ending because there were quite a few questions left unanswered, but there was no hint at what may have happened to keep readers guessing. Several storylines simply evaporated into thin air. Unfortunately being blunt is the only way to express how I felt once I finished this book, mirroring Laurin's rather blunt end to what could have been a 4 star novel.


Final thoughts
If you go into this book knowing that there will be questions left unanswered and a rather short ending, then I can say you will not be disappointed. The vast majority of this novel is truly brilliant; it is gripping, there are twists, turns, lies and things I did not see coming. However, I did feel slightly let down by Laurin and the ending she opted for. It did dampen the stellar image I had in my head, but perhaps others will think differently.

Just an ok read. I thought this had an interesting premise but it fell short for me. I think there was too much going on to keep me enthralled. I felt the ending was implausible and rushed to tie everything up. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it

I must say that the blurb did not really give much detail about the book and in fact it had me intrigued by what it did not say. I really wanted to read it based on that alone and am glad that I was able to. Nina Laurin has a skill of writing. She obviously has crafted that skill over the years and although I have not read anything of hers before, I sure wish I had. The author jumps right in immediately and takes off on a story of twins who lost their parents in a fire. Then 15 yrs later after not seeing her brother Eli, she catches a glimpse of him on a news story. There is a fire and he is holding the lighter. What has he done? I was so engrossed and excited at the same time wondering what was going to happen next. The story is gripping and gritty with characters that are compelling and very believable. Writers like this one are not easily spotted so fast. Sometimes it takes some time for the suspense to build but not this one. This is one of the best thrillers I have read in some time and hopefully this will not be the last one from this author.

I found What My Sister Knew quite predictable and it didn’t have enough going on for me. I like a bit more action in stories, this...bored me.
Not great, I can’t recommend.

I've rated this book 3 stars. It wasn't bad but at the same time it didn't win my heart, just an average book.
It was a pleasant read though, the retrospectives helped a lot to understand the current events. I was really curious to see how the story will develop. It started interesting but then it went downhill. It was rather predictable and even the little twist at the end didn't feel like a surprise. It was more like “I thought so”.
“What my sister knew” is often described as gripping. In my opinion it lacked action and the pace was really slow. It wasn't exciting or emotions, just an ok story. I read different genres and I have different expectations about them. I like my thrillers shocking, this time I was disappointed.
Good book to pass the time, not good enough to keep you excited.
