Iam thankful to Netgalley for providing me a copy of the book for a honest review.

This had to be one of the most enjoyable leadership books of all times. The author, Rob McKinnon, has condensed his extensive coaching experience and created a template for leaders. While leaders are expected to help others in their change journey and resolve their conflicts, Rob has created a journey for the leaders themselves to participate and enrich themselves.
With each chapter i kept on nodding to myself and had to stop myself from exclaiming loudly hey that's me, that's what happened with me. His template of PIES: physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual is spot on and with practical examples easy to relate and follow along.
End of the chapter takeaways and self reflection questions are a good way to engage the readers and I would highly recommend this book to one and all.

Love the structure. Easy to read. Clear reflection questions and action steps. Very linear to follow.

If you avoid books on leadership because the ones you have read seemed a bit "cookie-cutter," then this book is for you. This is a book for leaders who want to bring all of their individual values and strengths to what they do - and to be more effective because of it. McKinnon's book will resonate with those who want to be driven from their core identity and to ensure that all aspects of their leadership reflect their deepest values.

Let me just say that I love that Rob starts each chapter with an experience he had in life or his business. It immediately brings some personality to the chapter and segue into what he plans to write about in the subsequent pages.

Is it a surprise that Rob left the Spiritual dimensional as the last one he discusses? (hint: no) While in Ch. 5 he speaks about his own vulnerability with a client and making the connection between the head & heart / intellectual & emotional, he is really building up to Ch. 6 which is a huge crescendo for the book. He really focuses on the reader and gets them to think deeply about themselves and what about them has an impact on or is tangible to others. Speaking about PIE & S and the separation between "doing" and "being" was another ah-hah moment for me. That definitely made it into my journal.

Without question, Chapter 7 is the best of the book. With his speaking about resourcefulness and also extreme situations being the best time for awareness he provided a good warmup for what I thought was the peak of the book.

To take a question from someone related to why he structures the dimensions diagram the way he does and go into the detail that he did just set the book to another level. To speak about the spiritual dimension being at the core and all dimensions touching each other says it all and represents a good reference for me. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but remembering the PIE (as in shape) with the S in the middle is so easy to remember. While I certainly will remember to shut off auto-pilot, the diagram allows me to take the key point(s) of the book and have it committed to memory.

The author split the book neatly into the physical, intellectual and emotional aspects and then put the soul with the spiritual into it. After this framework, identifying your type of triggers and changing up the planes for different thought chains to jumpstart are all great ways to carve out a new leader that all your followers will find inspiring.

What's easier? Trying to copy the successes of someone you hardly know who is in a completely different situation than you, or trying to improve yourself where you are today? Too many books try to do the former, with their authors saying in essence, “this is what I did, follow my lead and you can do it too.” But everyone is unique. That author may have had a privileged upbringing, had a mentor to guide their path, or even had a lucky break here or there. You can’t replicate the conditions that gave them their success.

However, this book is different. I am who and where I am today. How can I make myself better? Rob’s method allows you look inward upon yourself and explore how you are feeling in four different areas of life, physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. By checking where you are today, and identifying where you are currently “weakest” you can concentrate on what you can do to improve and be a better you. So instead of copying someone else’s path to success, you can be a better leader today, and start making an impact on the world around you.

Highly recommended!
