This was the most charming, evocative and beautiful book, chronicling the lives and loves of young waafs and pilots during world war two. We are drawn into their world, a world where you never know which goodbye will be the last. A world of rations, make and mend, friendship , courage and love. Also a world of fear and pain and loss. The bombing of Coventry was really brought powerfully to life and the personal losses endured. We see the misery of little evacuees, torn from their homes and families and sent to live with strangers...not all of them kind . The story centres on little Peggy , separated from her younger brother and billeted with a nasty, vindictive shopkeeper who makes her life a misery. Luckily for her , young waaf May, decides she has to help her and in doing so, finds the courage to assert herself and face her own demons . The friendship between May, Jess and Evie, the ops rooms girls is joyously written and their characters lovingly drawn and expanded. The friends come together to put on a pantomime to cheer the children and to bring the village together and in doing so, dispel some of the xenophobic suspicions around the brave Polish pilots . This is a many layered book with such subtly in-depth character insights and strong storyline , it will leave you wanting more!

Loved this book just as much as Vicki Beeby's first Ops Room Girls title! The author writes in such a way that you become invested in the characters, live the action in the book alongside them and really care what happens to them. This book allows you to time travel back to the time of the Second World War and to have a glimpse into the lives of the men and women living through this time. These books would make a fantastic film or television series. Already waiting for the next episode in the lives of Jess, Evie and May.

The ARC of this book was kindly provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. #ChristmaswiththeOpsRoomGirls #NetGalley.
This was exactly the kind of fun, lighthearted read I was looking for. Having already been familiar with these characters, there was a comfort in returning to their lives and this setting. The casual banter and conversations between May and Jess were entertaining to read, as was the general festivities mentioned. I particularly enjoyed reading about May's character development, I expressed an interest in reading a book mainly from her perspective after reading the first instalment in this series and this didn't disappoint! I can only hope the next one will be from Jess' point of view, I would have liked a little more exploration into what Evie was up to, however, the small mentions and appearances from her were enough given that this was primarily May's book. Once again, a very entertaining and comforting read! Can't wait for the next one.

The next book in the Ops GIrls saga series delivers.

I could leave this review there, but that's not fair on either you, me or the author, especially considering the sheer quality of this novel. Continuing the story of May, Jess and (here, to an understandable lesser degree) Evie in and around the station, RAF Amberton.

This story is centred around the arrival of a group of evacuees in the village and the effect of one, a young girl called Peggy, on May. A pantomime is a central part of this story and contains the best names, ever, for the Ugly Sisters! I won't tell you more about the story, as I don't want to spoil it.

The writing here is wonderful! Ms Beeby has a talent for descriptive storytelling that is even more evident here, than in the opening story. Christmas in wartime England comes to life and the austerity is clear yet the happiness of (most) is all the more joyous to see. Conflict is never far from the surface and May is put through the wringer in this novel as she battles to overcome her own insecurities.

All in all, a beautifully written novel, full of twists and tender moments in abundance.

My thanks to both Canelo and Netgalley for the reading copy!

Second book from The Ops Room Girls
A beautiful enchanting story
May Lidford an aircraftwoman stationed in the RAF in Amberton, when she sees a group of children gathering, Evacuees, when a little girl holding her brothers hand catches her eye, Peggy and Davey Hardy from Coventry, and were been split up. May felt heartful sorry for them but only been a WAFF she had no say in the matter. Along with her friend Jess Halloway working together in the operations room she Missed Evie who had taking a transfer to Bawdsey Manor in suffolk. the little girl Peggy never left her thoughs and hoped that Mrs Evans was treating her right. even the handsome Peter Travis letter didnt cheer her up she didnt want to get committed to a relationship.
A pantomime is been rehearsed in the village hall ready for christmas day and the children are all included to do their part. this is a good time to keep her eye on Peggy.
Throughout this book the author draws you into the characters.
its a wonderful read that I enjoyed with a seasonal beautiful ending.

It’s like Call the Midwife, I got the same feelings for this book as I do that series. This is a feel good novel! Lovely little read. I especially loved the character Peter. I felt myself rooting for him from the start.
The story flows well and it’s well written. I could imagine everything the author told me. Try nice indeed!

Another great book in the series. The style of writing is great and easy to follow. The storyline was enjoyable although perhaps not quite as good as the book beforehand. Glad to read the girls have gained promotion which hope means there will be another one in the series soon!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

Another fabulous book following the lives of Jess, Evie and May.

When May witnesses siblings who are evacuees being separated she’s wishes that she had the confidence to be the one to speak up for them. Also, that she could’ve done something to help them not having to be separated.

So, Jess then suggests to put on a Chris pantomime - Cinderella with a twist to help with the way they are seen by some members of the community and boost morale at the station.

May, whose wants to help desperately but, her own insecurities are holding her back.

Her insecurities and her low self-esteem are also affecting her relationship with Squadron Leader Peter Travis,

Now, she decides that she’s had enough and decides that it’s time she took charge of her own destiny.

But, the past, which she ran from, comes back, along with another crisis with one of the sibling evacuees.

These will put to the test all Mayes new found confidence and see whether she can bring about changes in herself.

The three friends, May, Jess and Evie must once again help each other through the challenges of the war that still on and alongside their own hearts.

Can’t wait for the next book.

Recommend it.

With thanks to netgalley for an early copy in return for an honest review.
Was utterly fantastic to be back with jess and Amy and the evacuees, there was so much more going on in the village this time that was so brilliantly plotted as well as a truly magical EXTRAVAGANZA.
What an utterly FANTASTIC Christmas book.
Can't wait for the next installment.

Having previously read The Ops Room Girls, I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to review Christmas with the Ops Room Girls and I wasn't disappointed. This book, dare I say it, was even better than the first in the series. It had everything - drama, a bit of humour and plenty of emotional stuff.
The book mainly concentrated on May's story, and it was lovely to see how the character changed throughout the book.
I love books set in WWII and this was a great example of a well-researched book that gave a glimpse into how life would have been for young women at this time in history.
The only thing I am unhappy about is I'm going to have to wait ages for the next book in the series! I hope it's not too long a wait!

This is book 2 in the series. I really appreciated what the book is about. It is about strong friendships between women. It is about finding your own voice. It is about realizing how strong you can be. This book made me feel proud to be a strong woman. Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest review
