I love that this book offers reluctant readers a path to enjoy Greek mythology through a fun but relatable story about a girl who is forced to go live with her father after her mother receives a too-good-to-pass-up job offer, only to discover that her father is Zeus and her classmates other figures from mythology. The mystery element will keep readers turning the pages while introducing them to the traits associated with each mythological character. A must-have for classrooms and libraries!

Graphic novel format, mythology and school drama combine with a result that will likely be a hit with my 5th grade library patrons. Karen is sent to live with her dad temporarily as her mom works at a new job, but has no idea that he is actually Zeus and her new classmates are reborn, teenage versions of Artemis, Athena, Apollo and a handful of fates and centaurs! When students begin to turn to stone, Karen is suspected and she sets off with several of her new friends to clear her name. Turns out that Medusa is to blame, but Karen steps in to smooth over the situation and Athena creates a cure for all the petrified. The simple storyline plus realistic looking illustrations will appeal to many in grades 4-6, but this is not a graphic novel that I will promote to my teachers as also a great example of well-developed characters, clear plot diagram, and creative figurative language. Author Stephanie Cooke keeps her book free of any profanity, violence (outside the whole turning to stone thing), or sexual content.

I thought this graphic novel was a very fun twist on the idea of modern myths, and Greek Gods are all the rage right now. I loved the use of different gods' traits and how they were displayed. I did find it ridiculous that she didn't know Zeus was her father, but other than that this was a fun one.

Karen is sent to live with her father on Mount Olympus, where she learns that the Greek gods are real...and some of them go to her junior high!

Cute concept but meh execution. I felt like there were too many panels per scene, and a lot of the panels were just filler information. Same with a lot of the dialogue, and with the sheer number of gods that get cameos. I wish the author had gone more in depth with a couple deities and given Karen time to really get to know them. Too many details are handwaved away, too - like, really, had no one thought of that solution to the Gorgon problem??

This story and art would be fine as an amateur web comic, but it falls flat as a published graphic novel.

Really cute way of introducing younger readers to Greek gods and goddesses. I thought the story could have been a little stronger, but it was fun to read.

"Oh My Gods!" is a fantastic graphic novel series perfect for middle grade readers that like "Lumberjanes," and Rick Riordan's books. The artwork is cute, the characters are adorable and fun. It's a joyful reimagining of the Greek gods and goddesses we know and love.

Oh My Gods! is SUCH a fun concept for a middle grade graphic novel, and it's so well executed by the authors and illustrator! I remember being totally overwhelmed by the mythology unit in middle school, but I would have loved this mythology-inspired story. And as an adult (who's a tiny bit less overwhelmed by mythology), I adored seeing all these famous characters and legends transposed into the world of middle school friendships and drama. Based on the ending, I assume there are going to be more books in this series, which is also super exciting. I can definitely see myself recommending this to upper elementary and middle schoolers.

4 stars. Super cute would definitely recommend to my students. Easy and fun way to introduce Greek Mythology with a modern and new twist with it being a graphic novel.

This is an absolute delight! The artwork is beautiful - I loved the cheerful style and brightly pleasing color scheme. The images flow perfectly with the text, creating a harmonious, layered narrative that engaged me immediately. What I especially love, however, is the core of compassion, kindness, and empathy running throughout. We get to see supportive, loving parents who, despite their separation, still speak of each other with respect and friends who have each other's backs. It is such a refreshing pleasure to read something with such *heart*, and the mythological aspects of the story are fantastic. The basic premise involves a girl spending time with her father while her mother takes a new dream job; what she doesn't realize is that her father is Zeus and her new schoolmates are all gods and goddesses. When students start turning to stone, Karen must solve the mystery of who is responsible - and the solution involves forgiveness and friendship. The information about gods and goddesses included at the end is clever, too. I think this book will have a wide appeal for reluctant readers, kids facing new schools, and students interested in Greek mythology and mystery. Highly recommended. I thoroughly enjoyed every page. :)

This graphic novel was SO CUTE!

When Karen moves to Mt. Olympus to stay with her dad for a while, she didn't think she'd be transferring to a school for gods, goddesses, and other mythical beings. She also definitely didn't think she would find out that she's a demi-goddess! While Karen is just trying to fit in at her new school, people start being mysteriously turned to stone. It's up to Karen and her new friends to figure out who's doing this and stop them before anyone else gets hurt.

I love Greek mythology and this was a super fun twist on traditional myths. The gods and goddesses are all reborn as teenagers. I love the way that the story is told visually, there's a lot of fun little details from the myths throughout the backgrounds. Highly recommend!

Though this was a lovely and cute graphic novel/comic, I never fully got into it. I acknowledge that I'm not the intended audience for this as I believe this is a middle grade, but having Karen's dad constantly call her "daughter" just felt so odd to me and there were a few things I just didn't entirely like. However, I believe this is a comic that a lot of younger people might get into.

Oh My Gods! is an interesting way of graphic novel readers to start fiddling with greek mythology and want to read something more relatable like teens in high school.
Almost every god and goddess have around Karen's age, daughter of 'Zed', her divorced father who lives in Mt. Olympus and everything is suspicious cause she doesn't know the truth.
When several students start to appear petrified, secrets will begin to uncover and Karen will learn everything.

OMG! is a fun and warm story with different tones within its plot, mystery and leaves you waiting for a sequel.

Oh My Gods! would be enjoyed by my fourth grade students who are obsessed with Greek mythology and graphic novels so a combination of the two would be right up their alley! Fans of Percy Jackson would also like this world. The characters represent the different gods and goddesses and their personalities reflect their unique abilities and traits. The color palette is bright and the illustrations are engaging. Each book in this series will explore a different story in Greek mythology this one focusing heavily on Medusa and the next on the Minotaur. The ending cleverly leaves you eagerly anticipating the next one in the series!

I was so pleased to get approval for this title. I spent the summer reading graphic novels to change my own stereotypes and perspectives on this genre. I can happily say I am a massive fan now and always on the lookout for new titles.
This is brilliant! Full of the normal pre-teen angst of a 13 year old girl with parents not living together. Wanting to spend most of her time with friends and online gaming, Karen is pushed out of her comfort zone when her mum needs to go away for work and she needs to move in with her Dad. Not having a proper relationship with him, leaving her friends and starting in a new school is plenty for one girl to manage.
However, Karen is not staying in the US as Dad lives in Mt Olympus, of Greek God fame. Believing she is in a normal city, this perspective will change as she meets new friends, learns a bit more about her Dad and finds a boy who has been turned to stone.
As the new girl, Karen is top suspect but she is determined to clear her name and so the mystery and detecting begin.
Filled with Greek mythology references alongside an updated teenage scenario is a great way to bring the myths, gods and goddesses back to life for a new generation of reader.

I thought it was brilliantly written and Illustrated. Karen is likeable and relatable and although her new friends are Apollo, Artemis, Athena and Aphrodite, they are written as normal teens studying and hanging out.

I love the character Jeff who seems to be just a normal guy though there is the promise of a second book featuring him...

I would definitely buy this series for my family as well as recommend it for my schools.

The first of, one assumes, a forthcoming series, Oh My Gods! focuses on middle school student Karen who discovers she is a demi-god when she is sent to live with her father Zed (really Zeus) in Mt. Olympus. About half the graphic novel is dedicated to setting up the world and introducing key characters while the rest is focused on a story involve a pre-teen Medusa. It's a cute story, but I think I'd hold out for an omnibus version that includes multiple stories in one book

This was a cute and fun modern-day take on Greek mythology. A lot of the Greek gods and other figures from mythology are high school students in Mount Olympus! With the exception of Zeus, who is the school principal, and the mayor. Karen has just moved to Mount Olympus to reconnect with her father, after living with her mother in America for many years. At first she just thinks her classmates are really quirky, but soon she realizes something more is going on here. When people start turning into stone, Karen has to clear her name--with the help of her new friends.

Oh My Gods! is a delightful twist on the traditional mythology tales! Upper elementary students in particular will love this first book in a new series!
