Totally loved this creepy psychological thriller!! The characters were amazing and drew me right in. So many theories and so much closure needed. This one cut deep on the emotional scale.
I highly recommend this book.

Another winner from Jennifer Chase and Detective Katie Scott! The story centers around a group of girls who have gone missing and now considered a closed case. Katie is sent to investigate when one girl shows up buried in a former children's home. This case represents more questions than answers and it's up to Katie to unravel all the mystery surrounding the home and the young girls.

Detective Scott, an Army veteran, shows that she has the gumption to pursue whatever demons are involved in the case. However, she's pretty impulsive and tends to put herself in harm's way. And, some of the decisions that she makes, also place others in danger. She's like Dirty Harry met Violet Darger (L.T. Vargus/Tim McBain) - these women have no fear!

Happy reading!

After enjoying the previous books this one left me a little disappointed. The mystery, suspense are good but the plot seems lost. There is more of the detective's personal life than the case in hand and the pace slows at places that I had to skip the pages. The back story also feels incomplete.

Elm Hill Mansion was once a historic house in Pine Valley when no-one wanted to live there it was given to the authorities as a safe haven for fostered teenage girls. Now it had fallen into disrepair and was sold off to be demolished and new housing built. As this was in the process of being demolished a young woman's naked body was discovered and the local Police called.
The case was given to Detective Katie Scott and Deputy Sean McGavern to solve but with the many obstacles and dangers in their way they would they succeed.
A fast moving detective story with many threads and a murderer that is not revealed until the end. A very enjoyable book which keeps you turning the pages.

Katie focuses her mind, trying to keep another anxiety attack at bay. The victim’s long brown hair is slick and wet, her body rigid in the grass. She looks more like a mannequin than the woman Katie had spoken with only yesterday, the woman she had promised to protect…

This is a real page turner. From start to finish.
I read in one day. Now I've got to go get book one and two.
I loved the characters. The story line was amazing. And the ending was great.

Katie Scott is back and doing what she does best -- hunting a serial killer. When the murdered bodies of two young women are found in two different places, Katie discovers that both are connected to a house that used to be a home for troubled young girls. The first body was found on the grounds of the home, when a developer is preparing the property for building new homes. As the shell of the house stands as a reminder that something sinister happened during the last years that girls lived there. The woman who ran the home is in jail, and the girls, now young women, have scattered. Katie and her partner track down clues but can't seem to find the answers they need. In the midst of danger on the job, Katie must also deal with a hew boss and navigating her deepening relationship with Chad. It's a story that will keep you guessing until the end. I eagerly await the next book.

One hell of a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. On more than one occasion I almost had to read through my fingers as I feared what was going to happen next. A brilliant, and highly recommended read.

Last Girls Alive by Jennifer Chase was not a page-turning mystery as I thought it would be from reading the synopsis. I loved the addition of the dog and how the author incorporated that relationship into the storyline. I liked the main characters, Kate and McGavin, and how they played off of each other. The storyline, though, was just okay. The book had some dry parts in the middle, and I found myself skimming a lot of pages.

However, I will read more of her books and see how those are compared to this one.

Jennifer Chase just keeps pushing Katie Scott... and each book gets better and better! I was very excited to read this book - it felt like reuniting with an old friend and picking up where we left off. Katie is drawn to a cold case (maybe it is, maybe it isn't) when a young girl's dead body is found on an old estate. She and McGavern work together to unravel the clues and try to find out who would be hurting these foster girls. In addition, Katie still wrestles with her past, and Ms. Chase also develops the relationship between Katie and Chad. I could not put down this book - it's a fantastic addition to this series. And, I hope Ms. Chase has more plans for Katie!
