Southern Bred and Dead is the 9th in Southern Ghost Hunter series by Angie Fox. Ellis is not a bit happy about Verity’s penchant for jumping into ghostly trouble feet first but she’s at it again with Frankie, her ghostly partner-in-crimefighting. She’s solving both a present day murder and helping Frankie delve into his own murder. The two plots are seamlessly intertwined, fast-paced, and sprinkled with the unexpected, including zombie-like spirits chasing Verity through the churchyard. This is a hair raising romp with plot twists and turns that you won’t see coming, and one that you won’t want to miss. (I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy and all opinions are my own.)

I’ve missed Verity, Ellis, and Frankie! And this one reminded me why I love them so much. Verity is pulled into another ghostly investigation after witnessing the murder of one of her grandmother’s dearest friends. The ghosts at the church and cemetery where it happened seemed to have Verity in their sights, and not in a good way. Meanwhile, Frankie is trying to get hold of his brother to settle a score there. And it seems like all of Verity’s adventures are finally catching up with Ellis, and he is scared that she is in over her head.

Verity is her usual semi-naïve self, wanting to believe the best in people, and ghosts, and just trying to help. We learn more about Frankie, and where he comes from, and that was super interesting. Ellis is in his usual mode as pillar of strength to Verity, but it’s not all smooth-sailing for the two of them.

The plot was very interesting and brought Verity’s and Frankie’s families together in a very unexpected, but delightful way.

Read the whole series in order, if you’re in the mood for a different kind of mystery novel. You will find interesting twists and lots of humor.

I really enjoyed this latest book in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery Series, it had a great storyline and we got to learn more about Frankie, and I especially love the relationship between Verity and Ellis. I can't wait to see what will happen next. Definitely read the Series from the beginning to see how it all started, you could still enjoy the book but you would miss a lot of backstory and all the struggles our heroine had to go through. Great Series and very entertaining.

Always love coming back to visit Verity and her pet skunk and mobster buddy, she's always in the thick of things. Well written enjoyable with a lot of history woven in, another home run for Angie Fox.

Southern Bred and Dead is the ninth book in Angie Fox’s Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. This fast-paced book is well plotted with an intriguing mystery that often had me on the edge of my seat and kept me guessing until the reveal. The story flows smoothly, and the characters are well developed. This book can be read as a standalone because the author has done an excellent job describing and explaining the main characters, their relationships, and their backgrounds. There wasn’t as much humor in this installment. It’s edgier and has more graphic descriptions than the other books in this series.

Verity Long can see and communicate with ghosts, but only with the help of Frankie, the ghost of a 1920s gangster who she managed to ground to her property in Sugarland, Tennessee when she dumped his ashes, which she thought was dirt in the yard. Frankie is unable to leave the property unless Verity has his urn with her. Verity is a caring person who wants to help everyone, living or dead. She is productively using her gift as a ghost hunter and is dating Ellis Wydell, the Deputy Sheriff and her ex-fiancé’s brother. Ellis is one of the few people who believe in her abilities and has always been supportive of her helping the ghosts who need her but concerned for her safety.

Verity is participating in Sugarland Heritage Society’s annual fundraiser at the Three Angels of the Tabernacle Blessed Reform Church of Sugarland when her late grandmother’s good friend, Jorie Davis, plunges from the upper window of the church’s bell tower. Verity is convinced foul play is involved and is determined to bring resolution to Jorie’s murder. As she investigates, Verity discovers shocking history about Sugarland and is confronted by numerous angry ghosts haunting the church property who want to attack rather than to talk to her. Meanwhile, Verity is helping Frankie find his brother, Lou, who he recently discovered is the person who killed him, as well as dealing with relationship issues with Ellis.

OMG - I Love love LOVE this series and this book didn't disappoint. It had everything I love about Angie Fox and then some. I hope this series never ends.

I was so excited to find another installment of The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries. I was so nervous throughout this one because Ellis and Verity were not getting along as well as they usually do. I love their relationship! There’s a lot of history in this tale that involves their small town. Verity is determined to find out what has happened to her friend, which involves solving the mysteries of the past.

Verity has managed to wrap herself up in complications in this one. She has a real life murder to investigate, Frankie needs her help, and her relationship with Ellis is on the rocks.
Reading an Angie Fox book is like visiting with old friends. Great characters suck you into the story. There's mystery, a bit of tension, humor, ghosts, and relationships. I loved all the reveals related to Frankie. There were so many surprises in this one. I can't wait to see what happens next.

In book nine of the Southern Ghost Hunter series Verity is investigating a murder (unofficially), dealing with a haunted church and trying to help her gangster ghost roommate solve his own murder, add to that some relationship drama and Verity has a lot to deal with.

Let me start by saying that when I requested this book I didn't realize this was the ninth in a series. That being said the first chapter recapped a bit of backstory and I never felt lost for not having read the previous books. Now that I've finished the book I'm totally interested in the backstory and will check out the rest of the series.

This was just a fun, not too scary, ghost story/cozy mystery. During her investigations Verity interacted with some entertaining and eccentric characters in her small town, some alive and others ghostly. She gets into some wild situations like visiting a ghost filled speakeasy. The pacing was steady and I always engaged. Overall this was a fast fun read. I would recommend this if you're looking for a cozy mystery that's a little spooky.

I read this book in one sitting on a rainy Sunday afternoon and it was the perfect selection. Pure fun and fabulousness wrapped up in a page turning package. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

I swear Frankie really comes alive in this one with an involved backstory traveled as our heroine and he solve the crimes together. Wild crimes gives a wild ride with a terrific ending. Jam packed with relationship issues and even Beau reappears don't miss this one

This was a great book. I was very excited to get Frankie's pov. The story had just enough creep in it that I was a little afraid of what was going to happen. I just knew there was going to be a jump scare somewhere. Verity had me also worried how she was going to handle everything that was going on and Ellis. I hope everything works out for them. This was a good read and I am glad to have gotten it through NetGalley.

I am becoming a huge fan of the cozy mystery genre due to books like this. You can read this as an escape from the everyday in a weekend. A really good mystery.

Just like with a lot of mystery series, you can read this out of order. Should you? Maybe. Honestly, my being lost in this outside of the mystery really was on me reading the ninth book in a series first. But, I liked it so much that I feel that I need to go back to the beginning and get all the wonderful plot this world has to offer.

I loved this addition to Angie Fox's Southern Ghost Hunting series. I haven't read all the books in the series yet, but was able to enjoy "Southern Bred and Dead" anyway. Fox does a great job of giving just enough backstory to let the reader understand the current actions and motivations of the characters without bogging down or detracting from the current story.

There are 3 main plot lines in the book: Ellis and Verity's relationship, a mystery surrounding the old church where Verity's grandmother's good friend Jorie tragically dies, and Frankie the German's investigation of his own death, his brother and family matters. There's a lot going on! Fox does a great job of weaving all of these elements into a seamless whole.

Very enjoyable, and I am really looking forward to the next story in the series. In the meantime, I'll hunt down the earlier books I've missed. Can't wait!

I think this series has "jumped to shark" for me. Both the last book and this one just don't have the same flair of the early books. Ghost hunter Verity appears to be a little more of the air head blond and cop boyfriend Wyatt is far to serious. Throw in ghost Frankie coming to terms with his death and who killed him and you get a lot of angst.

This time around we have a mysterious death in the real world that takes place at a haunted church in full view of the elite of Sugarland society. Verity was picking up on some nasty vibes from the time she arrived at the fundraiser for the Three Angels of the Tabernacle Blessed Reform Church of Sugarland. She only wanted a fun day off and was looking forward to spending time with her grandmother's best friend, Jorie. When a body drops from the bell tower, everyone assumes it was an accident, except Verity.

Between solving this latest real life crime, assisting Frankie in tracking down the gangster who killed him to find out why, and dealing with a very unhappy Wyatt, Verity has her hands full. She is determined to help Frankie find his answers so she follows him to a ghostly speakeasy, a haunted movie theater and to a long ago mob safehouse where, finally, Frankie gets his answers. She unlocks a secret that gives a lot of ghosts their final rest and solves the real life death. And, she and Wyatt finally discuss their relationship and why he is uncomfortable with her ghost hunting.

If you havent read any other books in this series I highly recommend to start at the beginning..
Verity lives in this cute little town, with her pet skunk lucy, and her roomate a ghost named Frankie the German..
Verity and Frankie have been working towards trying to figure out who killed him. Now that they know who it is, they need to find the person that did it, (another ghost) and figure out why.. Verity is also trying to navigate her relationship to her boyfriend Ellis. In a previous book he confided in Frankie that he is worried about Verity helping ghosts, and he doesn't know if he can handle it.. Verity happened to overhear the conversation, and now we are going to have them finally hash it out face to face.
Even Beau came through in this book, he decided to follow Verity while on one of her ghost missions for Frankie, It turns out he actually helped with that, which was a surprise to everyone. and he gave Verity some great advise about her and Ellis..
Everything about this book was absolutely perfect and I hope we get many more in the future,,

Once again Verity's life just isn't easy, with her and boyfriend being at odds over her career of choice, Frankie having her help chase down the ghost who killed him and get some answers, and her grandmother's friend falling from a bell tower window in a church where the ghosts don't behave quite right. Verity is in for a long week.

I raced to read this book as soon as I got it. I've been following this series since the beginning and was particularly keen to see what happened in this book after the previous Christmas short story, where there had been some interesting development in Verity's relationship with the Wydell family. While that was not referenced in any way after all, I do want to note that I very much enjoyed the absence of Virginia Wydell in this book and the positive interactions Verity had with Beau. It was nice to no longer see Verity at loggerheads with these two characters and I think it will help the series continue to grow and develop (as well as be good for her relationship with Ellis). Really enjoyed reading.

I have not read them all , but they do read well as stand alones. I really enjoy these cozy mysteries. Not everyone has a pet skunk. Add in ghosts and a small town and mysteries. Fun times. Sometimes, I get frustrated with Verify she's open with most people except for Ellis her boyfriend. Overall still a good read. 4 stars

Southern Bred and Dead is the ninth book in Angie Fox’s Southern Ghost Hunters series. The story begins innocently enough as Frankie the German accompanies Verity to a fundraising event at the Three Angels of the Tabernacle Blessed Reform of Sugarland. As Frankie has plugged Verity into the ghostly realm, she is able to see many residents of the church graveyard, all of which seem angry. In fact, there is a point in which Verity is running for her life and on his special app Ellis receives the message of the danger she is in.

Ellis and Verity have words because of this and she lets him know of the conversation she heard in the prior book. Can they put all of this beyond them and go back to where they were?

As Verity does her best to help the restless souls find peace, she also works to help find peace for Frankie, his brother Lou, and sister in law Charity. This quest takes Verity on a number of adventures until she can lead them all to closure.

Will Frankie learn the reasoning behind his murder at the hands of his brother? Will they be able to come to terms and move forward? In a very convoluted story, Verity becomes the conductor to a symphony of differing strands in a story with great historical depth and modern meanings. This may we’ll be the premier story in this series. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!
