James Patterson never disappoints! This incredible story of siblings one of which is accused of horrific crimes is a absolute scorcher! I loved reading about the close bond of the brother and sister, and waited with bated breath to find out who the killer was. |

It's a long time since I read James Patterson, and this book was a very fast paced ride. Megan and Michael Fitzgerald, adopted children of a psychologist and a psychiatrist have a horrible childhood--treated as experimental subjects for much of their life, so much so that they are never sure which of their memories are real and which are false. Michael finds a dead woman in his bath who he doesn't recognise and denies knowing, yet his clothes are found in her house and she appears to be his girlfriend. His only alibi is he watched a movie and fell asleep. More bodies line up, with connections to truck stops that Michael used and the FBI suspect Michael is the Birdman serial killer who leaves a feather at each killing and has been killing across the country for years. Is Michael innocent or is he a psychopath? A rollercoaster of a ride, lots of characters and short chapters as there are two authors. I'm not a fan of the short chapters in any book, but it's still a good read. So it's 4.5 stars for me. Thanks to Little Brown and Co. for the ARC. |

A complex book with a very surprising finale. As I read I was convinced I’d worked out the plot only for it to be turned on its head in the final chapters. As always a very clever storyline and believable characters |
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book This book started well and I thought I was on to a winner but then it descended into a long, overly drawn out story of horrific child abuse. This was so horrific and distressing I almost couldn't finish the book I do enjoy the Private books by James Patterson (if it is him who writes them-not sure why all these "duo" books.). A rather obvious ending too, A somewhat pointless epilogue. The digital layout needs a lot of work before publication and typos and grammar errors need correcting |
When Michael Fitzgerald finds a dead woman in his bath, the first person he turns to is his sister Megan. Adopted as young children they have shared a lot but Megan can’t help him this time. Arrested for a crime he swears he didn’t commit, the evidence quickly mounts up, perhaps too quickly and too much of it, but why would someone want to frame him? A fast paced psychological thriller, so easy to read, it keeps you gripped right to the so unexpected ending. This is James Patterson at his breath-taking best. Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in return for an honest review. |

James Patterson at his very best! A gripping thriller that kept the reader engrossed from beginning to end. The storyline keeps you guessing who is the victim and who is the culprit leading to a totally unexpected surprising end, brilliant read. |
Date reviewed: September 3, 2020 When life for the entire universe and planet turns on its end and like everyone else you "have nothing to do" while your place of work is closed and you are continuing to be in #COVID19 #socialisolation, superspeed readers like me can read 250+ pages/hour, so yes, I have read the book … and many more today. And it is way too hot to go outside, so why not sit in from of the blasting a/c and read and review books?? I requested and received a temporary digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley, the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review. From the publisher, as I do not repeat the contents or story of books in reviews, I let them do it as they do it better than I do 😸. From coastal California to upstate New York, a killer is plotting a devastating path of destruction... Michael and Megan Fitzgerald are siblings who share a troubling past. Both adopted, and now grown - Michael is a long-haul truck driver, Megan a college student majoring in psychology - they trust each other before anyone else. They've had to. When a young woman is found murdered in Michael's LA apartment, he is the chief suspect and quickly arrested. But then there's another killing that is strikingly similar. And another. And not just in LA - as the spree spreads across the country, the FBI becomes involved in a manhunt for a cold-blooded serial killer. False leads and shocking circumstances that defy logic will leave the LAPD and FBI desperately searching for a way to prevent a string of murders that seem unstoppable. This was not a typical James Paterson book - it was beyond stellar....anddid not have 302 chapters in a book that normally only takes me 30 minutes to read. The plot is very intricate and enjoyable to follow along trying to figure out, along with the FBI what the heck is going on. This is the James Patterson that I miss since he became a writing empire with co-authors: this harkens back to the days of the first few Alex Cross books when he wrote alone. This is a BIG book - lots of pages to go through and a plot you might want to write notes about to keep being able to follow the twisty, thrilling plot. As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I love emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/Tik-Tok and YouTube Millionaires/etc. " on Instagram and Twitter... Get a real job, people!) so let's give it 🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪 |
Michael discovers a drowned woman in his bathtub. He claims that he doesn't know her, yet the police finds evidence that they were actually living together. Is someone framing him for murder? Another excellent thriller by master Patterson with brilliant twist at the end. I've read it in a one sitting, strongly recommend it. |
