I loved brain teasers like this growing up, and this was such a fun reminder of that time. The puzzles were sharp and entertaining, I really enjoyed playing along. |
I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This was a very neat book. My son (12) and I had fun reading the puzzles and solving them together. It was interesting to see how our thought process worked. Some of them were tough to figure out. A fun, fast read. |

The title intrigued me. As a detective stories fans, I love this kind of things. But sadly, the book is not made for non-american like me. There are stories I can't solve because of unmentioned circumstances. As much as it is fun, sometimes it's also frustrating to find out that because of certain rules I didn't know, the results were different. |
These crime brain teaser puzzles are interesting! They are fun to share with family, too, in small groups of puzzles. |
Unfortunately. I didn’t find the scenarios intriguing enough to hold my interest. The scenarios were too basic and I didn't like that I had to keep going to the back for the answers after a very short story, Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc. |
I enjoyed this book quite a bit, it reminded me a lot of solving the Encyclopedia Brown mysteries as a kid. You read the crime and then try to figure it out the solution. I enjoyed this book more than the pencil free puzzles, but that's mostly because mysteries are my thing. My only quibble is that sometimes there is not enough information provided so that the reader can actually figure it out. Otherwise, great book and I can think of many uses for it. |
***Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*** This book made me feel like an amateur Sherlock Holmes! |
This book had so much potential - it was supposed to be a highly entertaining book, however the lack of detail and the mechanic layout were not helping this book. This book should be and look more fun - people should be enticed to open it and have fun, instead it looks like a dull math exercise books. But the puzzles itself were a lot of fun, just the presentation missed the mark. |
An entertaining collection of puzzles, dressed in an interesting format. These are great to dip into. You'll find yourself mulling them over when you're doing other things. A great read. |
I picked this up looking forward to some fun logic puzzles--almost like the Mr. Mystery books from when I was a kid. While some of these were sort of enjoyable, for the most part this became an irritating toss aside book. For instance, many of these cases couldn't actually be solved by examining the "evidence" presented in the crime descriptions. Instead, some of the answers were akin to "well there was someone hiding in the back room watching through a crack in the door" and other such nonsense that is in no way able to be inferred from the case decription. That's not a "brain teaser" nor does it end up being much fun. |

fun little book to distract from everything going on. while I disagreed with some of the justifications, i enjoyed as a whole. |

Interesting short crime puzzles. Nice entertainment during breaks or for rainy days. I would say this one is best as a printed book because of the solutions at the back of the book. But the ebook format is nice too. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this! All opinions are my own. |
I like how short the puzzles are and how if you are paying attention and think logically then you can solve them. I also like how the solutions are provided but at the end so that way you don't unintentionally see the solution while you are thinking. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author. |
This book contains 65 brain teasers which are American based situations which for me made some of the clues hard as I don't understand the context. Overall they are interesting but take more than 60 seconds to consider. You're presented with a scenario and then prompted to answer a question at the end of the scenario. Some of the answers are sort of obvious but then throw in a curve ball as to who did it or sometimes it says how it was done but not by who. Overall I'm not sure about these, they certainly take more than the 60 seconds and some I had to read a few times to understand the situation as we were dropped in mid conversation with no context. I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review. |
I didn't love this one, and I didn't hate it either. It was honestly just a "middle of the road" type of book. Some puzzles were interesting, some...not so much. It also seemed geared more towards a younger crowd. |
I am currently a gifted resource teacher, and this book has short puzzles that are great as a mind break, warm-up and fillers if you have a few extra minutes at the end of class. Summer Corner than others, and although they are all related to crime there's nothing too gory that you can't use with students. |
I really enjoyed this one! I was provided an advanced digital copy of the book from the publisher via Netgalley for review purposes, all opinions are my own. |

This was a fun puzzle book to help exercise my brain. These mini brain teasers were just enough to do a few at a time in between breaks and to share with some friends. Definitely great as a stocking stuffer or a gift for your sleuthy friends. |
60 Second Brain Teasers Crime Puzzles is a fun book. It reminded me of the 60 second mysteries I read as a kid. In fact, that is what first drew my attention to the book. It instilled a bit of childhood nostalgia, as well as testing my puzzle solving skills as an adult. Full review will be at the Nameless Zine (New reviews posted on the 15th of every month) |
I am admittedly not always great at these books, but I was kind of disappointed in this one. The scenarios have varying degrees of difficulty which is good, but I feel they could be organized better. We would go through 2-3 that we just couldn’t get and then the next one would be so obvious we’d think surely we were overlooking something. I feel like having sections or increasing difficulty may be better, but that’s pretty subjective. The biggest issue I have with this book is that the presentation is incredibly boring. It’s just words on a page essentially. And while that’s what a book is of course, I feel books like this do better with an interactive element. Have some photos or something at least to look at as well as read. This isn’t really a fun family activity because it’s just me reading a paragraph out loud. I would’ve liked to be able to show some pictures or a scene that was relevant to the scenario. One thing to mention is to pay attention to what question is being asked. Many times the answer would involve a long drawn out resolution that we’d have no way of knowing from the original scenario, but wasn’t necessary either. For instance, it would ask something like “Is it true she died before 3pm?” And the yes or no answer is able to be deduced from the story given; however, the answer would include this long drawn out background story. So we’d get frustrated because there’s no way of knowing that’s the reason behind the “yes or no” answer but then I’d have to stress that the yes/no is all that was asked. Hopefully that makes sense. Overall I’m going with 3 stars because there were some fun mysteries but the presentation just wasn’t there for me. I was given a copy of this book in return for my honest review. Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for this opportunity. |
