This is the seventh in the DCI Kate Daniels series and though I hadn’t read any before this, it was still utterly enjoyable. It would encourage me to read Mari’s back catalogue of novels, as Kate is a powerful, insightful investigator. The novel starts with a plane, from London to New York, disappearing from the sky. The world is waiting for news and for Kate, it’s all too close to home as the love of her life – and friend to many of her colleagues – is on board. Kate has no authority to investigate but do you think that will stop her from finding out the truth? I was initially surprised that the novel would centre where it did; I wasn’t sure how the story could withstand the location, but it moves on and leads to an interesting story that had me gripped. I love the style of Mari’s writing and her characters are strong and believable.
