Where do I start with this review! It’s most definitely a page Turner set in two periods. Past and present, and those periods are at polar opposite. One a tale of rich, having more money than sense - Yes money grows on trees. And the other that just can’t make ends. But they both have one thing in common. - rich or poor doesn’t provide the protection you need if someone knows way too much and is about to do anything to keep you quiet. This is such an easy ready, pages turn easily and fast. And in Michelle’s style (noted from reading her previous book) there are several twists and turns. |
WOW... This book was a wild ride and I did not want to put it down. This is a thriller. The main person we follow in this book is Tabitha. In this book we are trying to figure out who killed a very rich woman named Nina. Nina was married to Connor who is Tabitha new husband when she was killed. I am not going to say anything else about the plot, so I do not give anything away. The twist and turn kept me on the edged of my sit. I really did not guess any of them, but I guess part of one. Wow... My head is still spinning thinking of the ending because it was so good. I love this book so much. If you love family drama thrillers you may love this one. It starts out slow, but it picks up the pace very fast. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher or author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. |
This book was most definitely a page turner and had me hooked instantly. The theme in this book is a domestic suspense which perfectly highlights the consequences of money, power and of course love. The way in which the author has written this book really captures the readers attention and holds it firmly throughout. The story is so intricate and well constructed, you can't help but find yourself completely emerged in the world in which the author has created. The story is told from two different perspectives which I really loved. It added so much depth and detail to an already consuming read. The plot throughout is perfectly paced, with the exact right level of suspense to have you on the edge of your seat at times!. And the way in which the story concluded was unexpected and thrilling. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and couldn't recommend it highly enough! |
There's Nina and Connor. There's Tabitha and Connor. And there's Nina's diary where it all begins... Nina writes an entry into her diary she's convinced she is going to be murdered. Tabitha embarks on a love affair with the one who got away. Her teenage first love Connor.. Trouble is he's married to the rich, powerful Nina. What follows is a gripping domestic thriller. I was immediately drawn to this book from the cover and blurb. I knew it was going to be a cracker and my instincts were right. What a brilliant book! From the get go this book gripped me and did not let up at all finishing with a satisfying ending navigated throughout by twists and turns a plenty that I really enjoyed. I liked the way the story was told through the two ladies perspectives from two different worlds in a nicely woven contrast. For a pacy and satisfying read make sure you pack a copy of this book for your next holiday. In my opinion it's the perfect book to take on holiday with you - a suitcase essential ;) It's perfect for me to recommend to friends with confidence they will enjoy it. This was my first book I've read by Michele Campbell and I wouldn't hesitate to read more. Thank you to Netgalley and HQ for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. |
Nina was once called a gold-digger. Now she is the one holding the purse strings she has been accused of being brainwashed by one. Connor is young, handsome, smart and ambitious. He is easy on the eye and a pleasure in bed. Why would anyone think he has ulterior motives just because she is much older and worth a fortune? Why would anyone think marrying him is a mistake? Tabitha never really got over her first love - her rich boy from the other side of the tracks. He made her believe she was special, was enough for him and more than just a physical distraction. The rude awakening she experienced has always remained with her, as has the passion and attraction she felt for Connor at the time. When Nina meets an untimely end, which she predicts, suspicion falls on those closest to her and of course those with a motive. Sometimes things are just too convenient to be true though or are they? Although this lacks the clarity and precise plotting of the previous books by Campbell it is still a driven and engaging read. It's a domestic thriller with plenty of paths leading in the wrong direction. What victim and suspect have in common is the belief that there is something like pure passion, devotion and love is out there for everyone, whereas the truth is a wee bit more cynical than that. |
This time last year I really enjoyed Michele’s previous thriller, A Stranger on the Beach and so was looking forward to reading this latest offering from Michele and I have to say it didn’t disappoint. It’s one of those books you can just disappear into. Set in an America where you can either be dripping in money or struggling to make ends meet yet neither situation will protect you if you know too much and someone wants you silenced. It goes without saying that Connor, the husband, is immediately under suspicion before you even get past the first few pages. His wife is rich and angry. She has not only been betrayed but she has discovered something that implicates her husband in her potential death. Not long after she is found dead. A suspected suicide but we are immediately suspicious. We look back as events began to unfold two years prior to the tragedy and even further back in Connor’s past to a summer romance with the woman who would be soon be pulled back into his life. Yet who is this man she considers the love of her life? Is he everything he seems? And what hold does he have over her? and will that hold put her in danger? I loved the many different layers of this novel. I never really knew who to trust and each character seemed unreliable. Even at the end I still wasn’t sure of the innocence of one character and that’s one of the great things about Michele’s writing. She leads you through and you’re never really sure who is guilty, who is innocent and there are plenty of snakes in the grass here. It was an excellent thriller to escape into. An easy read that had me reading into the night. Thoroughly enjoyable. |
This domestic suspense story explores the human consequences of love, money and power. It embroils the reader in an intricately built world of abuse, deceit and lust with believable characters and insidious suspense. Told from two perspectives; journal entries from Nina, the first Mrs Ford and Tabitha, the second Mrs Ford's past and present points of view. The story draws the reader into two parallel worlds of the rich and poor and explores what someone will do for power and wealth. Tabitha and Nina are both unreliable protagonists, but they both engender the reader's empathy. Connor is weak and driven by the need for money and not as easy to like. The cast of secondary characters all add to the story and provide its plot twists. The fast-paced plot builds a world of betrayal and division. It blends introspection and criminal investigation to deliver an absorbing story. I guessed part of the outcome, but that adds to the enjoyment, and the poignant conclusion is both realistic and satisfying. I received a copy of this book from HQ via NetGalley in return for an honest review. |

What started as a powerful opening – discovering that Nina believes she is going to be murdered for her money – becomes a novel of intrigue and many questions. However, I did feel the intensity lessened in the last quarter of the book and I found the ending a bit too prolonged. I really enjoyed the premise of this story. The novel is told from Tabitha and Nina’s perspective. Following the women in Tabitha’s teenage years; Nina’s first encounter with Conner; Nina’s final evening; and the aftermath of Nina’s death, readers gain an insight into the questions surrounding this unexpected death. There is not too many clues provided and Campbell suggests enough deception regarding Conner’s behaviour that it is difficult not to suspect him. Especially when there is a lot of money and an iron-clad pre-nup involved. When it becomes clear that Tabitha is being framed for Nina’s death, you cannot help but wonder how she will be able to prove her innocence. I think my suspicions towards Conner were also manipulated by Tabitha’s own feelings. Despite being pregnant with his child and finally married, she cannot help but cast doubt over his actions. At times I felt that Tabitha was a little bit of a push-over; far too accepting of Conner’s demands because she is “inexperienced” in mixing with very rich clientele. Indeed, her willingness to follow Conner was a little bit unsettling, especially as it is revealed that she has had such a terrible first marriage. In my opinion, I did not feel that Tabitha had grown or learnt any lessons from her previous relationship. Despite these misgivings, this book is very easy to follow. The plot develops very quickly and at first I could not guess how it would conclude. However, when I suddenly had an inkling of how the story might finish, I think I lost patience with the narrative and wanted more revelations to come sooner. I think this is why I found the closing just a bit too drawn out for my liking; I could see how the mystery would be solved and wanted less action, more closure. This is a good thriller with plenty of suspicions to keep you intrigued. Even if you are able to calculate some of the plot strands, I do think Campbell pulled them together in a very interesting way. With the opportunity of inheriting millions of dollars, suddenly many characters have a clear motive of removing Nina from the picture. Just which one is the real perpetrator? With thanks to HQ books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. |
This was my second book of 2020 and another belter of a read. It's dark, deadly and dangerous. What really happened to Nina? There is so much more to this story than just a who did it? It's clever. Twisted. Dark. Well thought out. It even contains a shoot out scene! Phew. Kept me turning the pages. Hooked. Gripping. Thrilling. I must admit though that I was on Tabithas side from the start she didn't even know what she was about to get herself into poor woman. It's a fast paced, action packed read where plenty of secrets and hidden motives will soon be out in the open. Its true what they say... Money does cause a lot of fights, deaths and secrets. This is all about money... A lot of money. A happyish ending for Tabitha, she deserved it! Plenty of characters got what were coming to them. Brilliantly written. Another that messed with my head at how clever it all was and who did what to who etc. You can't trust anyone. This is a story where history appears again and not in a good light. A brilliant read. Highly recommend. A well deserved four stars from me. |
The Wife Who Knew Too Much is a gripping story surrounding obsession, love and wealth. A classic 'who done it?' tale, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The characters aren't particularly likeable - Tabitha is obsessed with the prospect of finding love I think, and this clouds her judgement the majority of the way through the book. To the point where I wanted to grab her shoulders and tell her to wake up! I didn't trust one character, and built up my own case in my head, in the end I was half right. I loved that Michele included sections of Nina's past from her point of view too, it gave me more of a sense of who she was. Fast paced and addicting thriller! |
Wowzers! What a book!! I had zero clues what was in store for me and I didn’t expect this one. It was a dark look at the world of money, and the story of the ones that have it and the ones who don’t. Tabitha our leading lady, madly in love with Connor, a boy she dated as a teenager. Who inadvertently dumps her for money, when he waltzes back into her life, and now there is a lot more money at stake. The book flies down the track at full speed. We meet Nina, we meet Connor, there is love, there is Tabitha, there is death and there is a whole lot of what the actual heck is happening. I love how Michele’s book really amp up on the tension and ferocity of the secrets and red herrings and twists are at a neck-breaking speed. I personally loved this! It made for such an enthralling read. I did find Tabitha a bit wet at times and careless. Yet, this whole situation we find ourselves in wouldn’t have occurred if she had not behaved that way. She is easily manipulated and naive when it comes to the way her life is progressing. I could never make my mind up with the characters because in the way they were written, one minute I hated them and then the next bit I didn’t hate them as much and round and round we go. They all had their flaws and weaknesses and these things start coming to the forefront of the story. Blasé comments made, mean so much more as you start to reach the end, literally pulling that bloody rug from you. I found this book to be quite addictive (thank god for Christmas break) and one I wanted to read in one sitting. I was a sucker for the storyline and for how this story would all play out. Who would be left still standing once the dust had settled? |
Tabitha’s a small town girl working in the local diner, building a simple life for herself; one that’s thrown into chaos when her high-school sweetheart unexpectedly appears back in town – the one and only Connor Ford. Charming, charismatic and dressed to kill – his wealthy background has always set him apart from the rest of the small town residents, but now he’s married to Nina Ford; a rich socialite with a penchant for the finer things in life, the class differences between Connor and Tabitha feel even greater than before. However, it doesn’t stop them from reigniting their former spark and embarking on a dangerous liaison together. But when Nina Ford is found dead in her mansion in the Hamptons, what does it mean? And more importantly, who is to blame? This book was fantastic! Michele Campbell’s skilfully written narrative successfully transported me from my little London flat into the glitz and glam of the Hampton elite. The characters were slowly introduced with the perfect amount of backstory and character development to make you fully invested in each of their fates. None of the characters should have been particularly likeable as they were all ridiculously flawed as people, yet the way Michele Campbell built them up, you still couldn’t help but love them and want them to succeed! I also loved that even the smaller characters weren’t just hiding in the shadows – they had enough spotlight on them to still be credible suspects, while not detracting from the main story. This book had me hooked from start to finish, it was suspenseful, engaging and impeccably written – never letting the reader fully guess ‘whodunnit’. I loved how a range of styles was explored throughout each stage of the narrative – from slow, intense build ups, to fast-paced high speed cop chases – Michele showed she could do it all! It was full of twists, surprises and the end wrapped everything up perfectly – without falling into the trap that a lot of mystery novels fall into; where the conclusion gets a bit ridiculous and unbelievable! I’ve never read a book by Michele Campbell before but trust me, after this – I’ll definitely be checking out more of her work! Loved the premise, loved the execution, loved the characters and loved the fact that after reading this, I’m pretty happy to stay poor – I’ll put my dreams of being part of the glitterati on the backburner for now! Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for my advanced reader copy! 💕 |
So I have literally just finished this book and I was not expecting that ending. I loved everything about this story and how the chapters were split by character or year at the beginning of the book. I also didn’t guess the twist/ culprit either, to me that is what makes the perfect murder mystery book. |

What an intriguing thriller.. A romance that crosses the years, star crossed lovers or are they? Who's version of the truth can you trust? What is reality and what is fantasy? This will keep you guessing all the way though. |
The Wife Who Knew Too Much by Michele Campbell is a totally gripping contemporary psychological crime thriller that will consume you from the start. The farther in you read, the faster your pulse will become. Michele Campbell has constructed a marvellous plotline. She manipulated my emotions and responses along the way. I loyally followed her through red herrings and blind alleyways. My reaction to her characters was led by the author’s mighty pen. Money and power are driving forces for some. As they rule and corrupt lives, there is only one way to go – downwards to crash and burn. In contrast there are pure hearts led by the love of others. Money and power mean nothing. Good hearts and pure lives are top of the list. There is the question of trust. Neither the reader nor the lead character can work out who is trustworthy. Suspicion and deception are the order of the day. As the noose tightens, it becomes harder to see the path ahead. The Wife Who Knew Too Much was an exciting read. I failed to predict the perpetrator or the outcome. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel as it consumed my every waking moment. I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own. |
I knew from the first page that I was going to be unable to put this book down!! We meet Nina who is married to her second husband Connor. She has found out that he is cheating on her and as he has signed a prenup that means if he cheats he gets nothing. She thinks he is planning to kill her to get his hands on her vast wealth. Tabitha used to date Connor and was devastated when they spit up, she is surprised when he reappears in the cafe where she is waitressing, she knows he is a wealthy married man now, but they are both still attracted to one another. This is a great thriller. I loved the twists along the way that led to a dramatic conclusion. Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review. |

It was a good story after getting grips with the alternating timelines. It took me a while to read it but I am glad I finished it. |
Michele Campbell is an entirely new author for me, but when I saw this on Netgalley, it really appealed and I found myself swiftly requesting to read. And I was not disappointed. The Wife Who Knew Too Much delivered everything I was looking for. It’s a fast paced thriller so entertaining that I found myself excited to read at any opportunity to find out what happened next, often subconsciously jiggling my knee as the tension ramped up! The narrative focuses initially on Nina, a fantastically wealthy woman who marries a much younger man, Connor Ford. After a miserable first marriage to her late husband. she is determined to call the shots second time around and ensures an iron clad pre-nuptial agreement secures her marriage. Happiness seems to elude her however, and her story ends in the swimming pool of her Hamptons mansion. Enter Tabitha, Connor’s second wife. Head over heels in love, she leaves her small town life behind for a life of privilege with Connor. And it’s not long before she learns of the pitfalls of wealth and greed. The lion’s share of the story is told from Tabitha’s point of view, and whilst her actions are at times questionable, I was willing to put this aside and enjoy the ride. It has been quite some time since I read a thriller that held me quite so on the edge of my seat and I devoured this with just a couple of days. Despite its enthralling nature, there were elements of the story I was waiting to fold out a little more, particularly in relation to Nina. I would have loved to know more about her backstory, to flesh her character out a little more and the frequent mention of her estranged sister would have been an ideal opportunity. She seemed very much to only exist in relation to the men she was married to, her moods and emotions tied to their behaviour. It’s a sad existence, despite her wealth and although she may appear strong to the world, her innermost thoughts reveal her vulnerability. Early on, I was worried I would ‘get’ Tabitha. Seemingly lacking in grit, I admit to being anti-Tabitha in the early chapters, finding her a bit too wishy washy, desperate for her to stand her ground and demand what she deserved – however, as events unfolded I did grow to like her very much so that I was on the edge of my seat cheering her on as I read the climax. I quickly realised that she is very much the picture of normality set against a backdrop of unbelievable wealth. A regular, relatable woman forced into a role she wasn’t made for. I will quite happily admit to having quite the love for novels about the seedier side of wealth and privilege – a youth spent reading novels steeped in trashy secrets of the fictional rich and famous, and The Wife Who Knew Too Much ticked all of these boxes for me. Despite my disappointment about Nina’s backstory, this was a read that grabbed me very quickly and didn’t let go, employing the old ‘just one more chapter’ while the rest of the house was happily snoring. I will quite happily admit to being somewhat obsessed with novels about the seedier side of wealth and privilege – a youth spent reading novels steeped in trashy secrets of the fictional rich and famous, and The Wife Who Knew Too Much has well and truly resuscitated my old fascination. I will, without a shadow of doubt be reading more from Michele Campbell, her back catalogue already on my wishlist. |
The Wife That Knew Too Much just wasn’t for me. I’ve picked up several times over the last two months but it’s not my cup of tea! Three star rating for fairness since book was not completed. Thank you to Netgalley and HQ. |
