A mid school mad genius boy in a rivalry over lemonade with his cute neighbour, flavoured lemonade over original lemonade. This was a good concept and taken well forward by the author, enjoyed the story and the quirky characters, hope to see more of them.

The premise of this one sounded fun to me, and that was exactly what I was looking for. In this story we follow Robbie, who lauds himself as a super genius, and the story is the perfect example of the responsibility that comes with power. We follow Robbie as he competes in the realm of lemonade stands, his being super futuristic and able to provide any flavor and his neighbor, Daphne's being classic lemonade. He's determined to find out what she's doing to bring in customers and make them so happy, sure that something nefarious is afoot.

This was a fun adventure that was full of quirky characters, friendly rivalry and many mad scientists - it was an enjoyable and fun.

I was a bit disappointed with this story because I was so excited to read it. I thought it was a bit too confusing with all the talk about coding and I was basically skimming by the second half of the book. I really loved the art but some of the characters were a bit of a miss. I really didn't like Robbie, I thought he was so egotistical and rude to everyone except his mama. I loved her though cause she was so great and she was the only person who could put Robbie in his place. Also what was up with how the bully talked because that was so confusing too. I really wish I enjoyed this book more but sadly it fell a bit short.

Title- Lemonade Code
Written By: Jarod Pratt
Illustration: Jey Odin
Genre: Graphic Novel
Publisher: Oni Press
Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Jarod Pratt's Lemonade Code is funny, interesting and addictive. It takes us on a virtual journey to future, at the city of Detroit where little Robbie lives with his mom Dr. Mama. Robbie has a penchant for coding and he wants to be a Mad scientist and help his mom to finish her project.

The place where Robbie lives has changed significantly over the years. With the advancement of science and tech, now they have hoverboards, flying cars, robopets and all the other cool gadgets you can dream. To help her mom in her mission, Robbie has started a lemonade shop at the frontyard.

But this is now ordinary stall!! Here you can get lemonade of any flavour you want!! Whether it is the flavour of chocolate or pizza or defeat and sadness, Automatista, the robot at the stall can give you any flavour you want.
Interesting!! Isn't it??

But then comes the real problem! A new girl named Daphne arrives at the locality with her old-fashioned lemonade stall.

Would Daphne be able to sell more lemonade than Robbie?

What would happen when Robbie and Daphne would start a lemonade war to defeat the other?

To get the answers you have to read the book.

Review:
I loved the way the writer has presented the story. Also it was absolutely amazing to witness the unconditional love and bonding Robbie shares with his mother. Illustrator Jey Odin has done a fabulous job in bringing the story to life with the mastery of his art. As far as the character construction is concerned it is good. Though I was looking for a bit more twist in the plot.

Overall, it was a fascinating experience going through the work. I give this work 4.5 stars for the storyline, illustration and overall presentation.

Happy Reading

I was really intrigued by the premise of this one: a super genius boy gets into a lemonade stand battle with the girl next door. The story is silly and wacky and I can see why it has been pitched to readers of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants. But the story was a little too strange for me and the art style is very busy and chaotic, which made it hard to follow the story. I wasn't really sure what was going on a lot of the time or who was talking. I think there are better wacky graphic novels out there that are easier to follow, so I won't be purchasing this title.

I didn't finish this one--the story didn't compel me--but I did like that the MC was a black boy who was super into science and inventing. He had a little dog sidekick, which is always fun, and a new girl across the street sets up a competing lemonade stand. She has a large cat that faces off against his dog.

Jarod Pratt’s Lemonade Code is a book brimming with creativity, and I would readily and enthusiastically share this book with readers young and old. I loved the unique style the artist brings to the page!

The basic premise of this book is that lemonade, ordinary lemoade is better then any other drink, no matter how odd it is, and if it is made by a mad genius. That good lemonade makes you feel so alive, and like dancing.

I can get behind that. But I think this book is not written for me, because although I appreciate the humor of Captain Underpants, and I have liked Diary of a Wimpy Kid, both of which are referred to in the description of this book, I found this book was a bit too much over the top, and a bit too complicated, and a bit too crazy and boring.

It is almost as though it went off the rails and never came back, which is fine, but it didn't work for me.

But if you like mad scientists who want to make the perfect artificial lemonade so they can take over the world, then go for it.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.
