The best part of the book is that it was written from the point of views of Cara and Rebecca which actually gave me the chance to understand both of them and their situations. This book was an emotional read and I absolutely loved that! It was such a journey and I couldn’t help but liking this book. Moreover, I liked how the book approached motherhood and that overall, made this book an amazing read.

I enjoyed this book but I honestly expected more. It was a quick read and had serious themes throughout, but it was predictable and it isn't one I will probably remember after a few more books unfortunately.

Grab your Kleenex! This story was heartbreaking, heartwarming and a tear jerker. The characters were well written and poignant. I found the storyline a little “Stepmom” ish for the first bit but the story really took off about 3/4 of the way through when there was a well done plot twist. The rest of the book was a rollercoaster of emotions. This one is a great read!

Rebecca and Jack have been together for five years, married for a year and, inevitably, talk between their friends has turned to 'when will they start a family'? Rebecca and Jack are determined they love their life as it is and never want children. They both have successful careers, holidays whenever they choose and can do whatever they please without having to consider anyone else, so when their doorbell rings late one Friday night and stood at the door is Cara, Jack's ex girlfriend and her four year old daughter Sophie, claiming that she is Jack's daughter, that perfect world that they have built is turned upside down. They are both in shock and Rebecca is understandably suspicious, why now and what is she after? What they are yet to discover is that Cara has a secret that not even Sophie knows about, and it's set to change their lives forever. How will Rebecca and Jack react when they find out and will Sophie find a way into their hearts and their life?

The story is told by Rebecca and Cara in alternating chapters, initially I thought that Rebecca and Jack were a bit 'up' themselves but, as the story progressed and they stepped up to the challenges facing them, my feelings towards them changed and I was impressed by their selflessness. I adored Sophie from the off, what an adorable little girl, and Cara was doing what every mom would do, ensuring that her child was going to be well cared for and loved. What parent doesn't want the best for their child? None of us know what lies ahead when we become parents and most of the time we are just winging it or, in Cara's words, 'playing it by ear' and that's when we've planned it, imagine being thrown in at the deep end! Emma Robinson has written this story with compassion and integrity, covering a very tough subject, its a raw, emotional roller coaster of a read that reduced me to tears on numerous occasions. This is the first I've read by this author and amid the tears I read it in less than a day, but it will stay with me a lot longer than that. I'll definitely be reading more of her work.

This was a book which grabbed me from the first page.  I found it easy to read and I soon found myself immersed in the story.  The characters were both relatable and realistic to me and as the story unfolded I felt for the characters and the way their lives had been turned upside down.  This part really pulled at my heartstrings as we never what is round the corner and how things can change in an instant. I really enjoyed this book even if I did have to reach for the tissues occasionally.

I loved this book. 

It is written from the perspective of the two main female characters, Rebecca and Cara and I instantly loved them both. I was not sure where this book was going to go when I first started it but I did not expect it to go the way it did. I have to say I cried my way through a lot of this book as some bits were very close to home for me but I would recommend it to everyone. I am a Mum to a little boy who is the same age as Cara's daughter Sophie and I only put this book down so that I could go and give him a cuddle as the storyline effected me so much.

This is a book that will stay with me for a very long time.

After reading this book I have had to recover before doing my review.
This story is full of love, hurt, heartbreak and such a powerful message. 
The characters were all fabulous. Cara is the mother of 4 year old Sophie. Jack and Rebecca are happily married and neither of them want children.... Then there is a knock on the door.
Their lives change from that moment on. With twists and turns right the way through it kept me turning the pages. Does contain storyline about cancer. 
All in all this was the first, but not the last of Emma Robinsons books I am to read. I want to thank netgalley and the publishers and author for allowing me to read this book for my honest opinion.

In My Husband's Daughter, Robinson has tackled a very emotional and difficult subject and asked an almost impossible 'what if'? When her husband Jack's rather fragile ex-girlfriend, Cara, arrives on Rebecca and Jack's doorstep late one night, none of their lives will ever be the same. Jack has not seen Cara for five years but here she is, with a four year old daughter ... 
Focusing mainly on the female characters, the author asks the question, could you love another woman's child? She manages to relay this dreadful proposition in all its complex ramifications and, as always in her books, find the humanity in all her characters. None of these people are perfect - they either cling too tightly to fixed career paths or luxury holidays or perhaps don't take enough responsibility for their actions but Robinson seems to be saying, do you know what? they're human and shit happens and despite our best laid plans, most of us are just making it up as we go along.  And so, when the worst happens, the solutions are as messy as the fallout ... nothing is perfect and no one is necessarily cut out for what life throws at them. But if people step up and do the right thing, then the worst doesn't have to be out and out disaster.  Robinson also looks at ideas/myths surrounding what it means to be a mother - the fact that no one really knows how to do it and everyone worries they won't be good enough and, no matter how nice the guy, the mental and physical load of children is still landing on women. 
The end of the book made me cry and I carried on crying for a while after I'd finished it - but ultimately the message is one of hope and faith in human beings and their ability to put others before themselves and be all richer for it. A message we need now more than ever. Fully recommend.

This is the first time I am reading a book by Emma Robinson and I really liked the way she writes and the character development that the protagonist goes through. 

Rebecca and Jack are the new age couple who have consciously made a choice not to have children and their lives are set as per that rule. Both of them are very successful in their careers and are very happy in the freedom that not having children can bring them. They do not bother with the occasional remarks from other couples with children and they are very strong in their resolution. Then one evening, unexpectedly,  Cara and Sophie enter their lives. Cara is Jack's ex girl friend and Sophie is supposedly his daughter. Overnight Rebecca and Jack's life take a turn when they decide to help Cara and Sophie and the journey that Rebecca goes through is what makes story so meaningful.

Emma Robinson has depicted her characters so well that they come alive in front of my eyes and commendable is each character's journey in their thoughts, beliefs and their way at dealing with circumstances. I loved how the author shows the growth of Rebecca and how her personality undergoes a .change. The journey through the story is the real charm and  was glued to it through and through till the ending. Th story is about motherhood, resilience, strength and character. 

This story is for all those who love  contemporary fiction that focus on emotions and journey of the characters and the story. I loved it. Will look forward to reading more of the author's works.

Before Jack and Rebecca got married, the had definitely agreed on one thing together. Neither one of them wanted children. They were extremely busy with their careers. When they did have time together they wanted to be able to do anything they wanted, without having to deal with the issues of a child.
For example, babysitters, when school vacations were, etc.
They were great just the way their lives were.
Then the doorbell rang. It was Cara an ex-girlfriend from five years back. She has a four year old daughter, Sophie, who is the exact image of Jack.
I loved this story. I loved how Rebecca was so strong and eager to help with the arrival of a child in her husband's life. Cara was a wonderful character. Strong, yet fragile. Willing to do whatever she needed to for Sophie to have a living home.

Rebecca is emphatic that she does not want to have children. She finds herself looking for a man who also wants to be unencumbered with such a responsibility. The man she meets is Jack and they fall in love and marry and feel as though they have it all! Traveling and great jobs and a beautiful house. They like kids, but they belong to other people!

Their lives are about to change when their doorbell rings and an ex-girlfriend arrives holding the hand of a five year old little girl!  Meet your daughter, Jack. We need a place to stay tonight! 

The author has you hypnotic at that point in time! It’s like you are hooked right there and you will not put down this book! The characters seem so real because I am sure every aspect of this book has happened or will happen to someone! Life is so real and this book puts things into perspective that people are careless about their own choices and decisions and that if they are not careful it’s ultimately the child who suffers! 
The author has written an exceptional amazing story that I would definitely recommend this book to anyone especially to teenagers Or college age young women!

Late one evening, the doorbell at Jack & Rebecca's house rings.  Cara and her young daughter Sophia are on the other side of the door.  Cara had a relationship with Jack years before, and is claiming that Sophia is his daughter.  Cara's background and future challenges are eventually exposed as the story moves forward. 
Based on the beginning of the story, I expected a slightly sinister story line, but midway through the book, the emotional onslaught arrives and the story takes a different direction.

My Husband’s Daughter was not what I was expecting. I thought there was going to be twists and turns, but in a more thrilling way. This novel reminded me of the movie Stepmom. I liked all the characters, I was suspicious of Cara at first. Mainly because I thought this was going to be more suspenseful. But her diagnosis was revealed pretty early on so that suspicion went away. I really liked Rebecca and her growth throughout the novel. I don’t know if I would have been able to act the way she did. She didn’t want kids, no way no how. And now a four year old shows up at her door, and it’s her husbands surprise child. She handled it with such grace and I really liked her for it.
