I am often torn between trying to reduce our family intake of refined sugars and allowing my kids to bake whatever they want. I love that my children enjoy baking but do we really need this much sugar in our diet? Finally, I think we've found a book that bridges the gap. Having looked through this book with them, we already have many recipes bookmarked to bake for packed lunches when they return to school next week. The hardest part, it seems, will be narrowing it down to just one or two. I love the handy notation for suitability for various diets on each recipe - a really practical help when choosing recipes knowing a visitor is coming. One thing I have would have liked to see would be a similar icon denoting whether the recipe can be frozen (I like to bake large batches to freeze where possible). I'm looking forward to this book being released, as are my children, and will definitely be buying a copy to add to our shelves. |
If you want to make yourself super hungry, this is the cookbook for you. I'm an absolute sugar fiend, I cant get enough of sweet treats, so this was great for me. Lots of ideas on how to make some treats with slightly healthier ingredients. Whilst I wouldn't necessarily describe the book as healthy, it's not a bad way to add some better nutrients to some old classics. I can basically see myself working my way through the list and trying everything. I liked the little circles indicating whether recipes were gluten free, dairy free etc etc. I can imagine this is the kind of book useful in friends households where the younger members have certain allergies. All in all, delicious. Great pictures, well thought out recipes. Now to get in the kitchen. |

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this copy of Clean Treats for Everyone Healthy Desserts and Snacks Made with Simple, Real Food Ingredients by Laura Fuentes that publishes October 6, 2020. I am so excited about this cookbook! I have several friends who would benefit from these recipes. I foresee making many of these for gifts in the future! This would make a great gift! |

This book really surprised me, usually you have to buy a ton of ingredients to make these type of recipes, but you can use what you already have as a starting point. This couldn’t have come at a better time as well, as I need to cut down my sugar intake. I can recommend this book. Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review. |
This book is great for those who like a sweet treat, but don't want it to wreck your diet and completely cancel that workout! Although I am not a huge dessert girl, every so often I get that craving for something sweet. I liked that each recipe was clearly labeled if it was diary free, gluten free and so on. I also liked all the different sections - especially the selection of smoothies! I haven't read her previous clean cookbooks and after reading this one, I will definitely be going to check them out to see what other things she has to offer. |
This book is packed full of tasty looking treats. The recipes are clear and well labeled for a variety of diets; gluten free, nut free, dairy free, vegan etc. Clean eating to me suggests that the recipes are healthier. Whilst individual ingredients are on the whole packed with various wholesome, unprocessed foods (nuts, oats, berries etc) I would struggle to say they're all healthy simply due to the presumed high calorie content (from looking at the ingredients) It would have been very useful to include nutritional information for each of the recipes to show the nutrition you are getting over buying baked goods. This would have elevated this book to one I would have give 5* I really liked some of the recipes in the raw desserts section and it's like I will make a few of the treats from this book. My only reason for reduction in stars is due to the lack of nutritional information. If you're looking for a book full of recipes which use wholesome ingredients, this is definitely one to try - there is certainly an advantage to making some of these recipes rather than buying them, it would just be nice for that information to be printed in the book. With thanks to Netgalley for the Arc in return for an honest review. |

**I received and voluntarily read an e-ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.** Who doesn't love a treat now and then? There's a whole variety of recipes, so pretty much any craving you're having, you'll probably find something to soothe it within these pages. There are some great recipes in here, but unfortunately there is no nutritional information to be found . While the usual ingredients are replaced with healthier options, the info is still needed for people who follow particular diets or have certain dietary needs/medical issues. Overall, some great food, and beautiful pictures of most of the recipes give this cookbook a 3/5 stars. |
I am making a 4-week no sugar challenge, so when I saw a book about healthy treats and snacks, I know I need this for some idea. I really loved this one. There are a lot of types of sweets: muffins, brownies, ice creams, bars, etc. The only one recipe I missed is pancakes :) Most of the recipe contains coconut or almond milk and flour, honey. There are just a few texts before the recipes, so most of the book is about the recipes. There is also a photo for almost every recipe which I really like. I didn’t try out anything yet, but I found a lot which I wrote out myself. |

Nice recipes if you are vegan, gluten, dairy, egg or nut intolerant. My problem is the lack of nutritional information. It’s all very well using Coconut oil/butter/cream but it is still very high in fat. Diabetics still need to know the carbohydrate value of the foods they eat. How is this effected if you substitute oat flour for wheat flour? I find the term ‘clean’ strange? It implies that other versions of these recipes are ‘dirty’. This is why we ancient vegetarians talk about ‘wholefood’. In the 1960’s when I became vegetarian we thought about the origins and effects of foods on our physical and mental health and that of the planet. We didn’t need ‘meat substitutes (quorn or soya pretending to be meat) we just didn't/don’t eat meat. At that time fat and salt were the demons. Now fat is okay, if it’s coconut fat? and ‘sea salt’ is sprinkled on everything. These days it’s sugar. Fructose, fruit sugars, corn syrup, honey will rot your teeth just as easily as white cane sugar. I would have given this book five stars if it had contained the nutritional information. Three stars as I like some of the recipes but will use butter and not coconut oil. |
Oh yes! So many fantastic recipes. I’m in a hurry to finish this review, because I need to make the chocolate cake immediately. Lots of different recipes, so that everyone can find something they like, even the really picky ones. It’s very easy to veganize almost all of the recipes, which is good. Some of the pictures made me drool, and quite a few recipes are on my “must try” list. The cheesecakes look absolutely delicious. I will make the key lime pie and banana cream pie as soon as possible. The strawberry shortcake bar picture is so beautiful that I wonder if anyone can skip trying that one. A very good book for anyone wanting to make and eat desserts, but want to avoid regular sugar and wheat flour. I find that the recipes can easily be amended if needed. I got a free advance reader copy through NetGalley. Some of the treats were without a picture. Hopefully the final version has pictures of every single end product. |
From Pumpkin Spice Coffeecake to Raspberry Crumble Bars to Chocolate Mug Cake, these all-natural treats are full of flavor without refined sugar or gluten. Recipes can also be tweaked to fit other dietary needs such as nut- or diary-free. Perfect snacks and desserts for anyone wanting to eat clean. While salivating over the beautiful color photos, I decided: “I want one of everything!” 5 of 5 Stars Pub Date 06 Oct 2020 Thanks to the author, Quarto Publishing Group – Fair Winds, and NetGalley for the review copy. Date reviewed: September 1, 2020 When life for the entire universe and planet turns on its end and like everyone else you "have nothing to do" while your place of work is closed and you are continuing to be in #COVID19 #socialisolation, superspeed readers like me can read 250+ pages/hour, so yes, I have read the book … and many more today. And it is way too hot to go outside, so why not sit in from of the blasting a/c and read and review books?? I requested and received a temporary digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley, the publisher and the author in exchange for an honest review. From the publisher, as I do not repeat the contents or story of books in reviews, I let them do it as they do it better than I do 😸. Healthy and wholesome recipes for desserts and snacks made with all-natural ingredients and no refined sugars. Clean Treats for Everyone, features dessert and snack recipes made with simple and easy-to-find ingredients for eaters of all ages. If eating clean foods is a priority, then you know how difficult it can be to find snacks, treats, bars, and baked goods with suitable ingredients at the store. With the recipes in this cookbook, you don’t have to give up desserts or compromise your snacking. All you need are a few real food ingredients you’re likely to already have in your pantry like fruit, nuts, seeds, oats, alternative flours (almond flour and coconut flour) and natural sweeteners (honey, maple syrup, and coconut palm sugar) to create delicious treats such as: Double Chocolate Banana Bread | Pumpkin Spice Coffeecake | Chocolate Mug Cake | Raspberry Crumble Bars | Apple Nachos | Coconut Dip | No-Bake Magic Bars | Peanut Butter Cup Cheesecake All of the recipes inside are naturally gluten-free, and you’ll also find customizable dietary options to fit the needs of your family, from dairy-free and nut-free substitutions to tips for swapping out ingredients and storage. The cookies, bars, balls, baked goods, smoothies and frozen treats will satisfy the craving for a healthy dessert, make a happy find inside a lunchbox, or as a midnight guilt-free treat! I want to say, first off, that there is NOTHING wrong with organic cane sugar (or non-organic/white/beet sugar), no matter what the author says, nor is there any need for gluten-free flour...but if this floats your boat, then this is the book for you. Truth be told, if I want a HEALTHY DESSERT I will eat fruit - baking is for real foods in small quantities. (Wheat flour is REAL FOOD! So is sugar beet sugar!!!!) This is a great recipe book if this is your kind of dessert - well written recipes that will appeal to that kind of person or celiacs: it is amusing that my one nephew is marrying a celiac who used to bake with nut flours until she met (allergic) him. As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I love emojis (outside of their incessant use by "🙏-ed Social Influencer Millennials/#BachelorNation survivors/Tik-Tok and YouTube Millionaires/etc. " on Instagram and Twitter... Get a real job, people!) so let's give it🥧🥧 |
The recipes in this cookbook sound amazing and look delicious!!! Laura uses a lot of oat, almond, and coconut flour in place of less healthy options. Coconut sugar and honey are commonly used in place of regular sugar, so be aware that treats are probably still high in calories and sugar, but it appears that smaller quantities are used so it likely equates to less sugar than these items are normally made with. There is a very vast array of dessert types, including pies, cookies, bars, fudge, frozen treats, cakes, etc. Most, but not all, recipes have a beautiful picture to depict. I would estimate there are for 70-75% of the recipes. My biggest caveat with this book is that there are no nutritional facts. Typically health conscious people, which I would think are the target audience for this book, would like to see the nutrition of what they are consuming and it was a huge bummer that there are none at all! |
