The sunroom at the back of the house is just as I remember. I can’t taste homemade lemonade or smell oatmeal cookies without thinking of home, of the beautiful cliffs of Martino Bay, and I feel welcomed. But all thoughts of a happy family reunion are destroyed the moment I see him…

He’s as handsome as I remember: broad shoulders, piercing blue eyes, hair the colour of burnt toffee.

The man who once meant the world to me. The reason I fled eleven years ago. I’ve never told anyone the terrible mistake I made that night. The secret we share. I’m still haunted by the crashing waves at the bottom of the cliffs, the blood…

But what is he doing at my sister’s house?

And then I see her. My baby sister. She smiles, she tips her hand so I can see the ring. And his arm slides around her waist, pulling her close…

A twisty and emotional domestic thriller for fans of Liane Moriarty, Kerry Fisher and Sally Hepworth from USA Today bestselling author Nicola Marsh. It will keep you turning the pages deep into the night absorbed by every last word.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'My Sister's Husband' by Nicola Marsh.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 27th October 2020

This is the first book that I have read by this author.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching and beautiful cover and intriguing sounding blurb. The synopsis stated that this book is a thriller for fans of Kerry Fishes amongst others. I am a big fan of Kerry Fisher so I am intrigued to see if it loves up to her standards. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 77 chapters. The chapters are medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Californa, USA 🇺🇸

This book is written in first person perspective with the protagonists being Brooke, Alice and Freya. I enjoy books written in first person perspective as as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. The fact that there are 3 protagonists that you get to 'chat' with individually is fantastic as you get a MASSIVE picture of everything going on, how they are feeling and what they are thinking.

This book is very well written and definitely unique which is hard to find in psychological novels. The blurb and cover definitely worked well with the novel. The book opens with a prologue that sets up the flavour of the story and from then it just kept getting better!! The writing style was captivating and the descriptions and languages Nicola uses captivates the imagination.

The storyline was absolutely alluring and had me hooked . The changes of time lines from past to present worked well and helps to slowly put the pieces of the story together. At times it was confusing until I figured out who was talking and I quickly worked it out. The way the past and present linked really helped out the pieces together smoothly. The book was absolutely rammed with deceit, love, loss and lack of bonding to say the least!!! I couldnt believe all the secrets that were kept in one family and as they were revealed one by one I was completely knocked off my feet as I did not suspect them. I thought I had it worked out about half way through but boy was I wrong!!! If you love twists you will love these shockers!!!

I was completely invested in the characters and think they were a great choice for the plot!!! I really felt sorry for Brooke, had mixed feelings about Alice and well as for Freya she was definitely one that I loved to hate!!! An image of Alice in her younger days!!! I really enjoyed reading from each of their perspectives and I found the story was really brought to life.

This would make a great movie and one that I would love to watch!!! Nicola Marsh well done on completely shocking a reader who is hard to shock!!! I am definitely looking forward to reading more of your work!!!

Overall a page turning psychological thriller that just keeps giving!! Prepare to be shocked!!

Genres covered in this novel include Psychological Thriller, Suspense, Thriller, Crime Fiction and Psychological Fiction among others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as anyone looking for a thriller that keeps you guessing, on your toes and will just keep surprising you!!

344 pages.

This book is 99p to purchase on kindle via Amazon or free which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5/5 (I loved it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I LOVED this book! I'd been in a bit of a slump after reading a few books I wasn't really into and then BOOM! I LOVED this book!!

I was a big fan of Nicola Marsh's The Last Wife so I had a good feeling about My Sister's Husband and, boy,was I right. This book has twists and secrets and secrets that have secrets. If you like psychological thrillers this is a must read for sure!

Brooke returns home for her sister Freya's wedding. Brooke has been gone for 11 years and hasn't had much contact with her family. But now with the wedding and Aunt Alice having dementia, Brooke wants to see her before she is too far gone. Aunt Alice means the world to Brooke as after Brooke and Freya's parents died in a car accident, she took the girls in and raised them as her own along with her daughter Lizzie. Then things get interesting. To say this family has issues is putting it mildly.

Thank you to #Netgalley and Bookouture
for an early copy of My Sister's Husband. Pick this one up, you won't be disappointed.

After years away, Brooke is going home for her siter’s wedding and to visit her beloved aunt who raised them as she has fallen ill.

Freya has always been jealous of her sister, Brooke. Much like her aunt was of her own sister (their mother) but now she has it all.

When she recognises her sister’s fiancé Brooke must face up to the past and the demons she is running from.

I loved this read. It kept the pace throughout and had a steady build up to revealing all the secrets of the past that the characters had tried so desperately to keep hidden.

The twist was phenomenal, I was blindsided-exquisite!

This is a story of rivalry between sisters Brooke and Freya. I found it confusing at the start going between the then and now so it took a while to get in to it. It did develop into a good story

Buy this book. Now. Don’t wait.
I mean, read this review if you want to, but seriously, if you are a fan of Psych Thrillers this is the one for you.
I’m not even sure where to start with the twists in this one.
When you think you know what is happening.
You don’t.
When you think you’ve learned all of the secrets.
You haven’t.
When you think you’ve figured out all of the lies.
You’re not even close.
This book had layers upon layers of secrets, parallel story lines with similarities in timelines, and intricate relationships that may or may not be what they seem.
I can’t say enough good things about it.
However, that being said, I also am struggling to figure out how to write this review without giving away any of the plot points, because it would be a shame if readers had a heads up. This is definitely one to read without any hints.
To say that Freya and Brooke have a shaky sisterhood is an understatement. I loved the way that their issues mirrored Alice and Diana’s. It was interesting to see how the author drew the parallels but not as clearly as one would imagine.
There was also great emphasis on family loyalties and how they can be misconstrued or misplaced. The question of “does history repeat itself” came to mind a few times, but with the caveat of “do we create our own destiny by our actions.”
I know that sounds heavy, and this book is anything but that. It is crisply written, with a tight plot, and lots of twists (literally up until the very last page).
I didn’t say a lot about the plot – you can get a synopsis elsewhere. But seriously: Do. Not. Miss. This. Book.
It just rocketed towards the top of my best reads of the year.

Took me awhile to get into this one but think that was down to needing a good run at it. Once that happened I couldn’t put it down. Really intense twists that kept me so interested in what was going to happen. Loved the switching from past to present and character to character. Loved some characters and hated others with one in particular I really just didn’t like. I’m fairly good for guessing what’s coming but I only got some of it right with this one. The ending was a little abrupt but at least all was explained. Really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC and review that was published on the 27th of Oct.

Freya and Brooke were brought up by their Aunt Alice with their cousins Lizzie after their parents were killed in a car accident. Alice has always treated them all as her daughters and been there for them through good and bad times.

Brooke left town after her teenage boyfriend died and hasn’t returned for 11 years but now Alice is unwell and Freya is getting married.

She finds Alice worse than she thought and Freya has a daughter she never knew existed. So many family secrets and underlying jealousies that run through two generations of family.

This is a book that will grip you until the end with twists you don’t see coming.

Oh my God! This is such a great book. I was not ready for the ending. It literally left me jittery and I want to ask the author to write a sequel to this one. Loved every minute spent reading this book.

I liked the twists and turns of this story. I loved Hope, Lizzie and Brooke! The ending was questionable but overall I rate the book a 3.8! Thanks Netgalley!

This is a good one. Suspenseful, twisty, and shocking. The story draws you in and is literally unputdownable. I stayed up into the early hours to finish this as I was so gripped by it. I look forward to more books from this author.

Wow what a fantastic story! I was gripped in from the beginning and second guessed nearly everyone but still missed some of what actually happened. Be prepared to not be able to put this down, I was up to the small hours as had to know what happened!

My Sisters Husband by Nicola Marsh is a story of sisters. Two sets of sisters all intertwined with each other make for an exhilerating and suspenseful book. A dual timeline story that takes us back and then to the present day in order to show us that history may be ready to repeat itself in a shocking way.
Brooke and Freya are sisters, they were brought up with their cousin Lizzie by their Aunt Alice. Brooke has been gone for eleven years and has had complicated relationship with Freya that has carried through the years. Brooke decides to return home when she receives an invitation to Freya's wedding, and Lizzie lets her know how ill Aunt Alice is. Brooke arrives home and finds a few things have changed, Aunt Alice is a shadow of the woman she remembers due to early onset of Dementia and the bigger surprise is that Freya has a daughter, Hope. To top it all off, she realises she knows Freya's husband to be...a face from the past.
The book shows us the past and the type of relationship Alice and her sister Diana, Brooke and Freyas mother, had, then, we can begin to understand and maybe start unravelling the plethora of emotions and jealousy between these sisters in the present day.
The story of Alice and Diana is an engrossing one and I really got sucked in to all the characters lives here. Full of surprising twists and little snippets of truths being dropped slowly but surely throughout and I enjoyed every revelation as it came. The shocks keep coming and you don't have a clue what to expect anymore. There are that many secrets, lies and way too much jealousy between siblings so it makes for such a juicy, enjoyable domestic drama.
Thank you to Bookoutire and NetGalley for the copy of the book for my review today.

I really enjoyed this story and will look out for the author in the future.
Brooke is called back to her home town for her sister Freya’s wedding after eleven years away. What caused her to leave and can she rebuild her relationship with her sister and Cousin Lizzie. The book is written from several characters POV and in two time frames. You’re hooked to find out how the past links to the present and who is telling the truth.
A great read.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A story of sisterly rivalry ,secrets and lies. Two generations of sisters who fall for the same guy in their time. Bit stereotypical in that we have the one pretty and popular sister and the other who feels overlooked.Actions and there consequences drive this story.

Thank you NetGalley, the publisher, Bookouture and the author, Nicola Marsh for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

The author really knows how to weave together multiple storylines, as well as keeping the secrets at the forefront of the story. This family has some major past lives and secrets, and all of these come together at the end to make a great story.

Was the end a bit far fetched; I do believe so, however it really didn't cause me to not like the book. I did enjoy how it ended, and was really rooting for the main character to have a great relationship with her aunt and her 'cousin'. I will always read this author's books, and I cannot wait for another one.

First, I want to thank Nicola Marsh, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me this book so I can bring you this review.

Oh WOW!! The family drama in Nicola’s Marsh’s newest book My Sister’s Husband was crazy!! If you thought your family was toxic you need to read this book!

Nicola dedicates this book to her brother Paul. She wonders if you are glad she is nothing like the sisters in the book?

Interestingly enough I had some similarities to the character Brooke. I too am a strawberry blonde and older sister by 11 months. Ironically, we too have a strained relationship and dont see eachother often. However, that is where the similarities end.

Nicola’s prologue is good and so true to a point in my mind. It definitely caught my attention.

The book goes into the past where you learn more about everyone’s backstory.

My heart broke for the reason Brooke was coming back to town but happy she was going to be reunited with her sister that had not seen in years.

You will definitely find out why it is called My Sister’s Husband! Very interesting story!

The more I got to know Freya the more she rubbed me the wrong way. Needless to say I was not the biggest fan of hers.

What a totally shocking ending that not only did I not see coming I was livid with some of the characters!!

I think I have found another favourite author. Wow. Nicola Marsh has created a book full of lies and secrets, family and passion, love and hate, all rolled up into a seriously well written novel with characters you will not forget. This book has 2 generations of sisters, with sibling jealousy unrivalled in any book I have ever read.

This story has several voices. There's Alice who is bringing up the daughters of her sister Diana and her husband Cam who died in a car crash. Then there is Freya and Brooke, Diana's daughters who have massive secrets of their own.

Brooke leaves town when the love of her life, Eli, commits suicide and spends many years away trying to put herself back together and assuage herself of the guilt she feels for his death. She returns when her sister Freya tells her she is getting married and wants her to come to the wedding. When she returns she finds her sister has a child she knew nothing about, and her sister's fiancé isn't the stranger she thought he was.

I finished this roller coaster of a novel today, realising that I was hardly breathing towards the end, such was the intensity of the finale. Whilst I had guessed some of the plot twists, others took my breath away. A brilliantly composed book with the power to shock - right to the end.

My Sister's Husband by Nicola Marsh is a suspenseful novel that will hold the reader's interest until the very last page. It is about a family and the secrets that are kept throughout the generations. Alice and Diana are sisters who are in love with the same person. Alice keeps her feelings to herself but greatly resents Diana for the attention she receives from Cam. Alice resents most things about Diana and this resentment turns to a secret hatred over time. In the next generation two sisters named Brooke and Freya are the children of Cam and Diana. These two sisters are also both in love with a person named Eli. Freya keeps her feelings hidden and like, Alice, secretly hates Brooke for all the attention and love that is bestowed upon her. There are so many twists and turns in this novel that it is almost impossible to predict what will happen. Alice ends up raising Brooke and Freya and although she is very kind to Brooke she does sympathize with Freya when she realizes that Freya has the same feelings toward Brooke that she had toward her sister Diana. What happens during this novel will take your breath away! Secrets and envy can destroy families in so many ways. I was finishing this novel at 1 am because I had to find out how things would end. I enjoyed this novel immensely. Thank you so much to Nicola Marsh, Bookouture, and netgalley for allowing me to read this novel in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is the story of Brooke and Freya but also of their Aunt Alice who raised them alongside their cousin Lizzie and Alice’s sister Diana. Of history repeating itself and what can happen when sibling rivalry turns into adult envy. How it festers like a wound garnering resentment.

Narrated by Brooke, Freya and Alice and with a non linear timeline this could have been a confusing complicated read. However in the skilful hands of one clever author this was easy to follow and both stories and timelines were equally compelling.

The characters made me feel like their parent and being asked to choose a side. Which made me question if my thoughts and loyalties would differ if I was myself a younger sibling rather than the eldest. Sibling rivalry is something I grew up with and I saw a lot of myself in both Brooke and Diana. This is where the author has really hit the nail on the head, making the characters extremely relatable. However my own rivalry was more over parental affection than boys.

As each tantalising secret is slowly revealed you are left wondering if there will be the same outcome but there are more shocks yet to come.

Filled with secrets, lies, jealousy and snide remarks this is domestic drama at its best.

Wow! Just when I thought I had figured out all the secrets I am surprised by another one. So many lies. Family secrets, jealously, anger, and confusion. Reading the story from the various character's viewpoint kept it interesting.
