This book drew me in since the beginning! There are many parallels to the stories of both generations, and there’s a sense of history repeating itself and lots of twists and turns. I really enjoyed this. It was full of suspense and tension and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. You like a family drama and a good thriller, you should definitely read this book! |

What a superb thriller this book is! It starts off as a really compelling saga of family secrets and relationships, but as the tension builds and the tangled web of secrets begins to unravel, it really ramps up the pace, and transforms into a twisty domestic thriller. The story is told from three perspectives. Alice, the aunt, tells us about the past, and gives us tantalising glimpses into what has gone before. Then the sisters, Brooke and Freya, take us back to the present day. There are many parallels to the stories of both generations, and there’s a sense of history repeating itself as we hurtle towards the climactic ending. This is book that totally drew me in, and I found myself unable to put it down. Totally compelling reading that will leave you reeling by the end. Fabulous. |
MY SISTER’S HUSBAND by Nicola Marsh certainly has some elements of a domestic thriller, but I really did struggle thinking about the book this way because, for me, there wasn’t any real mystery or suspense. It felt more like a family saga, whose lies are exposed and secrets are unravelled over the course of the book. Once I recalibrated my expectations, I enjoyed the book a lot more. Some sibling relationships are toxic, and Marsh gives us not one, but two such relationships across generations that significantly impact their lives and the lives of those around them. To say their lives come across as soap opera-ish really doesn’t give enough credit to these characters whose lies, actions and manipulations are breath-taking in their audacity. I feel Marsh has delivered a well-plotted narrative but one that at times is let down by too conveniently delivered revelations or by the apathetic attitudes of some characters. They are the weak links that make me question how decades old secrets were so well guarded. I enjoyed March’s writing style. It flows well, and is comprehensible; important given the point of view switches with each chapter. I did guess early on what the big twist was – more likely a fluke than any real deduction on my part - but I was content to go along for the ride until I reached the end. |
Families should be a source of comfort and compassion but in My Sister's Husband the family is anything but. There are simmering and longstanding resentments, petty jealousies and secrets galore. When an estranged sister meets her sister's brand new fiancé, they recognize each other having been a fling once upon a time is just the beginning. A good read from a really good author! |
My Sister's Husband is a domestic thriller by Nicola Marsh. I was intrigued with the plot of the story. Although it wasn't groundbreaking in its ending, the author has a way with words to pull you into the life of a family that's in shielded chaos and are told in multiple POVs as well as different time periods. There may be times a reader finds it difficult to keep track of what's going on due to the bomber of changes, (to each their own) but as we dig deeper into the book things become easier to understand. I cannot stress how many twists are there in this book and the secrets that are uncovered just seem to be popping out of nowhere with no intentions of stopping with uniquely bizzare characters. Overall, it's a good book if you're into mysteries. |
My Sister’s Husband by Nicola Marsh is an intense story of sisters, family secrets and jealousy. The opening line in the prologue states it clearly “family can be toxic” with “secrets, half-truths, mysteries, and outright lies.” The story opens with Brooke coming home to Martino Bay, California for her sister, Freya’s wedding after being gone for 11 years. She is also coming home to see her Aunt Alice the only mother she has ever known and who is in failing health. As soon as she comes home, Brooke realizes there is more going on than she thought. She recognizes Freya’s fiancé, and the decline of Alice’s health doesn’t add up. Brooke decides to figure out what happen to Alice and what led to her rapid decline. Told between three perspectives, Brooke and Freya, and Alice in the past, the reader is taken on a journey with many twists and turns. Will Brooke find out the truth? Will the truth set them free or drive them further apart? Wow! What a book! From the opening prologue to the last chapter, the story will twist and turn as you try to figure out what happened and what is going on. It is the story of two sets of sisters: Brooke and Freya and Alice and Diana, Brooke, and Freya’s mother. As I read the interactions of the sisters, I am so glad that I do not have that relationship with my own sisters. It was hard to like or relate to these women though I found Brooke more likable especially as the story progressed. There are a few secrets that I guesses at, which turned out to be correct, but just when I thought I had it figured out, Ms. Marsh still had a few twists that I didn’t see coming! My only complaint is with Alice’s perspective, it was hard to determine when the events she talked about happened. Overall, I really enjoyed My Sister’s Husband and I highly recommend it. It is a roller coaster ride that you do not want to miss! My Sister’s Husband is available in paperback and eBook |
Well what can I say? An amazing read. Jealousy and secrets from the past surface as Brooke arrives home for her sister Freya's wedding. I really did not want to put this down. Each chapter revealed yet more information in this complex web of family lies and deceit. There was a reckoning coming, but just how would it happen I had no idea. Brilliantly written and totally gripping. Wish I could give it more than five stars. My thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for an ARC of My Sister's Husband in exchange for an honest review. |
This is the 1st book by this author that I have read and now I will be looking forward to more! This is definitely a book that will make you think! The author takes you through the relationship of two sisters, Alice and Diana. She intertwines them with two other sisters, Brooke and Freya and while alternating between the two stories, she tells a tale of jealousy and shows how far a sister will go to have what her sister has! Definitely worth reading!! 5 stars!! Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the chance to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review. |
Thank you NetGalley, Nicola Marsh and Bookouture for the ARC of My Sister’s Husband. This is my personal review. This book was one that had me saying to myself how many secrets can one family truly have and still be a family. This book was extremely hard for me to get into and enjoy. I kept thinking what is coming next. It felt forced and did nothing to make me want to read to the end, but I did. I can say that this book is not one I will keep in my column of books to recommend to others I know. |
This is a brilliant family drama full of secrets and lies. Brooke receives an invite to her sister’s wedding and also an email from her cousin saying her Aunt is ill, so makes the decision to go back home. It’s been eleven years since she’s seen them all and she’s surprised to learn her sister has a daughter. She’s also shocked when she meets her future brother in law as she was with him in the past. We also get an insight into their Aunt’s life and learn that she had a difficult relationship with her sister too. I won’t say any more about the story as it’s one where you need to read it and let it develop and I have to say, it left me speechless. I’m certainly glad I don’t have a sister if this is how life could be! This is a great read and one I can highly recommend. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. |

My sister’s Husband is narrated in first person through the eyes of Brooke, Freya and their Aunt Alice. The story focuses on the journey of two generations of sisters. Brooke and Freya’s storyline takes place in the present with flashbacks of past memories, while Alice’s takes place mainly in the past. This book features many twist, turns and family secrets that will tear open the deepest scars. I found the characters to be interesting especially Alice and Freya who I found to be the mirror image of each other personality wise. I think they both had deep physiological problems with might have been hereditary although this is just my opinion. I found Brooke to be a strong character because she returned home after ten years to face the pain of the events that chased her away. I would be interested to see if the severe jealousy issues end with Freya and Alice or if they have been passed onto Hope. I was shocked by the ending but at the same time I found it very satisfying. Nicola Marsh has written a suspenseful and thrilling book which will keep you entertained and guessing right till the very end. I recieved an advanced copy for free, and this is my honest opinion. |
Omfg. I love this book. All the twist and turns makes me crazy. Lol I dont know how she wrote this book. This book shows that generation after generation could be the same good or bad. I screamed at this book so many times. I cant believe Aunt Alice growing up and then what she wanted to do to her sister. I cant believe Freya is worse the Aunt Alice was to her sister. I have the jealousy and i hurt because of mine but would never think the way they did. I am glad how the book ended but was also disappointed. I wanted HEA. Secrets secrets secrets. This family is all secrets. When most things come out hell froze over. Thank you for the free book. |

An addictive, suspenseful pageturner from start to finish! The twists just keep on coming. Brilliantly plotted. I absolutely adored this amazing book. Highly recommend to everyone. |
Secrets, secrets, and more secrets. I really enjoyed this story but kept feeling dead in the pit of my stomach. Always waiting for the other show to drop, this story gives you that wonderful angsty one looks for when reading a thriller. |
After a ten year absence, Brooke has returned home for her sister’s wedding. Her cousin Lizzie had asked her to come back but Brooke had doubts. She should have. Her arrival sets in motion almost unbelievable events that change her family forever. Almost as soon as Brooke arrives, her sister Freya introduces her to her fiancé Riker. He’s the man Brooke fell instantly in love with ten years ago. When she confessed to her boyfriend Eli, he ended their relationship and committed suicide. Horrified and griefstricken, Brooke left her home in San Martino. Freya, always in Brooke’s shadow and viciously jealous of her sister, stayed in town, became a respected nurse, volunteer and single mother to her daughter Hope. As Brooke navigates her relationship with Freya, she becomes concerned that Alice, the aunt who raised her, has a suspicious early onset dementia and is failing under Freya’s controlling care. She vows to stay in San Martino until she can have Alice independently assessed. Meanwhile, she hopes that reminding Alice of events from her past will help her be more aware in the present. After discovering the password to Alice’s computer, she learns much more about Alice - secrets that have been long buried. Secrets that will lead to a dangerous confrontation. My Sister’s Wedding is told in three voices: Brooke, Freya and Alice. Brooke’s voice dominates and you share her confusion and disbelief as secrets are revealed. While I thought some of the action was over the top and wildly dramatic, this thriller pulled me in and kept me turning pages as fast as I could. 4 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Nicola Marsh for this ARC. |
Literary Soap Opera. This is a tale of dual sets of sisters roughly three decades apart making uncannily similar boneheaded moves, told primarily from the perspectives of two of the sisters in one timeline and one from the previous timeline. It is a compelling mystery with all kinds of interweaving and looping drama that truly makes it feel like a soap opera, but in a very approachable and enjoyable way. Some reveals were telegraphed early, others not until the very moment - with some pretty solid misdirection thrown in at times. Overall great story and great execution, and a remarkable contrast in storytelling style from Marsh's earlier October 2020 release, Second Chance Lane. Very much recommended. |
Brooke has received an invite to her sisters wedding. The only problem is she hasn't been home in over 11 years. After a party all those years back her boyfriend committed suicide. She couldn't face people so fled. However, when she meets Freya's new fiancée it obvious they know each other. The other concern is that the aunt who raised Brooke and Freya after the death of the parents is in a bad way with dementia. Locked in her room for her own safety. Her decline is rapid. The story is told by the main female characters POV. The reasons why Alice became the guardian of the girls is revealed. But throughout the book the theme is secrets / lies and jealously. This book kept me gripped and I whisked through. Looked the twist at the end. well worth reading Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review |
