Chrissy’s mum died years ago when she was a child, she was always led to believe it was an accident but now Chrissy is starting to believe that she may have been murdered. A good gritty story set in the mean streets of the west end with lots of colourful characters introduced along the way.

I just finished this, and I'm quite exhausted after reading this book... for the best reasons, I promise. It was so well written, everything flows into another, and you can't stop reading until the very end. I really enjoyed this one, can't wait to get my hands on the next one!!

This was my first book by Roberta. I liked the writing style and the story but found it very slow to start. It did ramp up a bit, but to be honest it is too similar to others and nothing really new.

An enjoyable read, though I did feel disappointed with the ending of the book. I felt that it ended suddenly and would like to have had seen how things turned out with some of the other characters. I also liked that there was no swearing in this book as a lot of this genre tend to have swearing every other word !!

I have read other Roberta Kray books which I enjoyed and I enjoyed this one too. I found this one started off at a slower pace to her previous ones but it soon ramped up and and became fast paced ,gripping and quite addictive to read

Another excellent book by Roberta Kray which kept me enthralled until the last page! A young girl called Chrissie grew up looked after by her nan as her mother had died when she was young by falling in front of a train, a tragic accident.

After losing her mum in a tragic accident, Chrissy Moss fought to survive on one of the East End's most notorious estates. When a fifteen-year-old girl disappears, hours after delivering a message for a local gang leader, the residents take the law into their own hands causing buried secrets to resurface.

With rumours flying about the girl's disappearance, the truth about Chrissy's mother is called into question, and Chrissy begins to suspect her death was no accident: it was murder. But people on the estate are refusing to talk, and to find answers Chrissy must unravel an age-old web of deceit that runs right into the heart of London's East End.

As Chrissy grows nearer to the truth, she unwittingly inches closer to danger. Could it be that she, like her mother, has put her trust in the wrong person?

Loved this book - a real page turner with some great characters. If you like a gritty gangland thriller then you will enjoy this story. It drew me in from the first page and kept me up into the night wondering how it was going to end.

Highly recommended and perfect for fans of Martina Cole, Jessie Keane, Kimberley Chambers and Mandasue Heller.

Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It's 1975 and Chrissie moss is a 14-year-old living on the Manfield Estate along with her two friends Dawn Kearns and Zelda Graham.
Chrissy has been raised by her nan after her mum had an accident and died after she fell onto train tracks when Chrissie was 4 years old.
Dawn's mum likes the booze and doesn't care what happens to dawn, so when one day Dawn goes missing her mum doesn't realise, but Chrissy and Zelda do and report it to the police.

Chrissy is hearing rumours on the estate that her mum's death wasn't an accident and she wants answers as to how her mum did actually die as it has never been explained to her and her nan shies away from the subject when she asks her.

This book has some great characters, some devious and corrupt. It is a real page-turner and i wanted to keep turning the pages the deeper I got into the book to find out what happened next as it had me gripped from page one.
Up Roberta's usual brilliant standard and well worth 5 stars.

Thank you so much NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book. xx

I had read some of Roberta's books years ago, but nothing recently. I have around 5 on my bookshelves that I've bought and not gotten around to reading yet. So i thought I'd kick myself off by reading this one first.
I love a good gritty gangland type book. I love when books are set on estates as they always seem to have some of the most brilliant colourful characters. This is one of those books.
Chrissy Moss was a toddler when her mother lost her life. Chrissy has been brought up by her Nan since she was 4 years old. on a notorious estate in the East End.
As a teenager Chrissy is upset and devastated when one of her friends goes missing. Dawn has disappeared off the estate and no one know where to. Presumed dead, some of the residents decide to take things into their own hands when they think they know who is responsible.
Chrissy is intrigued what her mother was like, and starts delve into her mothers past. This could lead Chrissy down a really dangerous track.
Some things people like to keep hidden.

A real page turner of a book, read over 2 days I really got stuck in and enjoyed this. I can certainly say i'll be catching up on Roberta's previous books.
These Gritty Gangland type books are what I love to read, and this story felt fresh and interesting and gripped me the whole way through. I found myself rooting for Chrissy, and at times wanted to really shout at her and tell her what she should be doing. I really got involved with the story line.

just Brilliant.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.

This is my first read by this author. I enjoyed this book, although it didn’t really wow or thrill me. I thought it was a well written, good easy read with a good plot line that certainly had plenty of twists in it. I felt I expected more from it though and it lacked the suspense I was hoping for. The main character was believable and likeable with a good background story. The story was quite fast paced, set over 20 years and rushed to an ending (which I guessed) with most loose ends tied up nicely except one. A couple of times the book felt a little overly long and I found myself skimming some of the pages. Overall a good read, just not a great one for me and this wouldn’t stop me wanting to read the authors other books.

3.5 stars

Chrissy Moss’ mum dies in what appears to have been a tragic accident leaving Chrissy in the care of her grandmother and a life on the notorious Mansfield estate. As she grows older she starts to believe that there was a more sinister end to her mother’s life and sets out to try and uncover the truth. However her quest for the truth is unsettling many people who it is advisable not to upset.

I thoroughly enjoyed this latest book. The story has many backstories and kept me interested until the end. A definite 5 stars which I don’t give often!

Many thanks to the publishers and netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Betrayed is the latest gangland crime thriller from grit-lit Queen Roberta Kray — who through her marriage to Reggie Kray, has a unique and authentic insight into London's post-war East End underworld. It's 1975 and Chrissy Moss and best friends Zelda Graham and Dawn Kearns are the tender age of fourteen. Living on the rundown, poverty-stricken Mansfield Council Estate in Kellston, with her Nan Elsie and Uncle Pete who took her in when she was orphaned at four years old. Despite understanding that where she lives is surrounded by crime, drugs and the shady criminal dealings of local underworld figures, Chrissy’s remaining family have always maintained that her mother, Laura, died as a result of a tragic accident. She had apparently fallen under a train at age twenty-three after going off the rails (no pun intended). Then a short time later, one of Chrissy’s close school mates, Dawn, goes missing and they report it to the police. What follow is a lot of convoluted rumours claiming that both her mum and Dawn were murdered and Chrissy decides that it's about time she discovered the truth.

This is a captivating and addictive read from the start with plenty of exciting reveals and developments. It's gritty gangland crime at its best with a couple of equally interesting plot threads and it touches on issues of poverty, gentrification, adversity and more. It's a story full of intense drama and imminent danger seemingly lurking around every corner. It's a tough street scene for anyone to brave never mind a female, not to mention there being an endless array of tested loyalties, betrayals, double-crosses and shifting allegiances. For the majority of the time, my heart was simply pounding, nand I noticed myself turning the pages more and more rapidly and anxiously. I found it impossible not to admire Chrissy, the kick-ass feisty female at the centre of it all, and despite her flaws, she's a superb amateur Detective who wears her heart on her sleeve and is very relatable. A cracking, fast-paced crime thriller with a palpably tense atmosphere, an action-packed plot and the setting of the Estate, which draws you in instantly. Many thanks to Sphere for an ARC.
