A Season in the Snow by Isla Gordon

A lovely book to read though a bit slow going but it is worth persevering.

A lovely book that deals with tragedy and how there is always hope where you least expect it and how life has a way of interrupting with a spanner in the a good read and also you can’t forget to mention Bear!.

What else can I say about this book but wow.

Alice is a positive person she along with her friends are enjoying London life and all the metropolitan activities it has to offer when tragedy strikes will Alice ever be positive again.

As I said this was an amazing book, although there are a lot of heavy emotions in this book they are dealt with sincerity and depth but overall the story is positive and it leaves you with a warm loving hug.

The characters are well scoped out and everyone has their own story arc. Although I have to say my heart totally belongs to Bear.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in return for an honest review

I ended up listening to this wonderful book via audio and I adored it.

It was so emotional in the beginning and I really felt for Alice, but Bear was such a lovely addition to her life and their bond was brilliant.

Really festive and emotional, would definitely read Isla Gordon in the future!

I think I requested the same book twice :(
This was the previous review:
This is a poignant and emotional book, not exactly what I was expecting but nonetheless it's an engrossing and enjoyable read.
I was a bit perplexed at the beginning because I didn't like the style of writing and the plot seemed a bit flat and the characters too monodimensional.
It's only when the more emotional part starts that I was able to appreciate how well Ms Gordon writes and how she was great at describing the relationship with the dog and the path to healing.
It's a good book but I recommend to be patient because it's a very good read.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

A Season in the Snow is one of my favourite books I have read in a long while.

Meet Alice Bright who always sees the positives in life that is until her life changes dramatically and she finds her self lost! I have felt exactly as Alice felt several times in my life and I felt Alice’s pain.

However, this read did not make me feel down in anyway. It is written in such a way that as a reader I felt sad for the character but also hopeful. When Bear arrives on the scene and the handsome neighbour that Alice meets on her journey to find herself in Switzerland the story is full of magical healing moments and I couldn’t read it quickly enough. This is what I needed at several points of my life, this book! Where have you been Isla Gordon?

Switzerland is described as beautifully as the cover design on the jacket of this book. Having been skiing in Austria I could relate to several moments in the book but the descriptions by Isla brought Switzerland to life and it is now one of my top places to visit. Hopefully with a dog like Bear waiting for me to hug!

This book is a must read for anyone who needs an escape from life. It has healing powers and lessons that can be learnt and put into place where ever you are in the world, mainly be present in the moment.

Thank you Isla Gordon for a wonderful escape at the beginning of 2021!

Everything about this book was beautiful!.
The story is set in Switzerland, and the way in which the author brings the story to life really makes you dream you were in the stunning surroundings.
The story focuses on how you come to really find yourself through friendship, love, and of course, you can't possibly forget the beautiful dog!
The message that this story really emphasises is to be present in the here and now, and honestly, this added so much emotion to an already incredible story.
Festive, beautiful, and full of heart warming moments. I adored this story.

I would like to thank Netgalley for allowing to review this book.
I absolutely loved this book from start to finish.
It starts with Alice, going to a concert with her best friend Jill, when tragedy strikes and Alice is forced to cope without Jill. To help her cope she takes in Jills's beloved Bear, a Bernese Mountain dog puppy.
Alice and Jill had planned to go travelling with Bear, finishing in Switzerland. Alice decides to visit Switzerland on her own, and stays in the chalet belonging to an old friend, that she and Jill knew from travelling in their younger days.
Jill becomes friends with her new neighbours, and between them and Bear, she can start to see a life without Jill.

💕Reading this lovely story had me feeling a bit overwhelmed. It's touching and truthful dealing with the themes of loss and recovery, which I understand sadly, too well.
Yet it still manages to capture the Festive spirit and Christmas vibes. I loved learning about winter in this part of Switzerland. I'm looking forward to exploring it on my way to Italy once we can all travel safely again.

Excellent writing by Isla Gordon, I can't wait to read more from this author

This book made me want to quit my life and move to Switzerland with my dog. A gorgeous story about losing yourself due to tragedy and slowly finding yourself through friendship, love and with the help of a lovely dog. I loved the whole be present and be grateful aspect, I feel like they're things we don't do nearly enough. Alice's story saddened me but her redemption warmed my heart and her adventures with Bear made me smile. Definitely a must read for dog lovers.

A Season in the Snow by Isla Gordon was just an okay book, I felt it was a slow starter and it lacked in some suspense to keep me hooked and wanting to read more. Some good descriptions throughout especially on the scenery in Switzerland making me feel I was there too.

If you only read one Christmas book please make it this one, it is sad but very happy and with a dog named Bear how could this not be the one to read.. |From the first page I knew this was going to be a really great novel, I found it hard to put down when other things needed doing. Shame I am only able to give this 5 stars as it is worth a great deal more.. I highly recommend you all read and enjoy this as I have done.
