I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review. The opinions are entirely my own, and any quotes are taken from the ARC and may be different in the final published copy. My children and I love road trips. To date, we have visited 46 states with only Wahington, Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii to go. When I saw 50 Adventures in the 50 States by Kate Siber, I knew I needed to read it. The book is full of colorful illustrations. Each two-page spread suggests an outdoor activity to do in each state as well as interesting facts about the activity or area. Many of the activities can be done in other states, for example, biking or rock climbing. I would have liked if the activity was specific to each state, but the beautiful illustrations and facts make up for it. I was unaware of the activity in PA, whooshing down a natural waterfall, and added it to my to-do list for next summer. The font is small on the ebook so I needed to enlarge it to read it more comfortably. Once enlarged, I had no problem reading the facts. It is part of the 50 States series. Other titles include The 50 States, 50 Cities of the U.S.A., The 50 States: Activity Book, The 50 States: Fun Facts, 50 Trailblazers of the 50 States, and I Spy the 50 States. This 200-word review will be published on Philomathinphila.com on 10/6/20. |

A wonderful overview of each of the 50 states. Beautiful illustrations and informative text. Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. |
Within the pages of this book we'll be able to take a trip to each state that makes up our great country! On each pages you'll find little facts about every state & suggestions of what you can do when you visit. It will have you wanting to pack up & take a drive to explore this amazing nation we call home. The perfect addition to any families library. I would absolutely buy a copy for our house! |
A colorful adventure book that give suggestions of outings you can do in each of the 50 states. Each state gets its own page and description of an activity. It also includes other fun facts for the activity or area. I was excited seeing many activities that I have done in my travels including visiting caves in Missouri, walking the boardwalk in Atlantic City, fall foliage in Vermont and beach activities on both coasts. But I wished for more or better information at times. In my own state of Utah it suggested hiking a slot canyon. I was surprised it didn't mention that Utah has five national parks with beautiful red rock hiking trails. Another downside is that many of the activities would be out of the price range for many of the readers. An appeal of this book is that many of the activities you can do in your own state, taking a nature walk, ice staking, biking etc. I can see purchasing this for the elementary school library where I work but I doubt I would purchase it for my personal library as it isn't a book I would read and reread. Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for a temporary digital ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review. |
This is a really fun book with fantastic graphics and information. Would highly recommend adding to a home library or US unit study, it would make a great gift for elementary aged kids. My 4 year old had a great time looking through the pages and talking about all of the different images. we'll definitely be adding it to our home library. |
This book is stunningly beautiful. It shows us 50 magnificent natural surroundings around the 50 states. The drawings are gorgeous and the text is accessible to read for ages 5+. Honestly, I would to reccomend it to anyone. Even if you don't plan on ever visiting the U.S., it still is a fun and enjoyable book. |

Kate Siber teams up with illustrator Lydia Hall to show kids all the adventures that can be had in the USA. Each state gets a 2 page spread with a paragraph about an outdoor adventure available in that state. The spread also has random facts and information laid over the illustration. This would be a great resource when students are learning about the 50 states. The illustrations are inviting, and the descriptions could convince you to go mountain climbing even though you are scared of heights. |
My children loved this book. It is bright, colourful and brilliantly illustrated. It’s a beautiful book. Each of the states has a page dedicated to it, with little snippets of information included as well as an adventure you could go on there. Fabulous. |
There are things I really liked and things I disliked about this children's guide. The illustrations are fantastic, and give a really nice feel to the whole thing. Many of the adventures do sound like great fun, and they are certainly adventurous (climbing a frozen waterfall? yikes). That said, there were a couple of things I didn't like. For one, it doesn't tell you where or how to do the adventures. Horseback riding with a real Navajo trail guide sounds pretty great but how does one set that up? The book never tells locations, even general information like this state park. Some of these seem quite specific but there's no real information about how to go about doing them. Also, it often felt like it should be titled 50 Adventures in the 50 States for Rich Families. The vast majority of the adventures are pretty pricey things to take part in -- scuba diving, renting a sailboat to be on a river during fireworks, the aforementioned horseback riding with a Navajo guide, and so on. Whenever we went on family vacations with our five kids we would have to pick the most affordable options for the area, since some fun afternoon adventures can easily run $50 to $100 a person or more. The Minnesota one was to go dog sledding up north, which I've never done despite living in MN but it doesn't also strike me as super affordable. While a few involve simpler pursuits like biking a famous area, the vast majority do seem somewhat expensive. It would be great to see a book like this focus on activities that are more accessible for all families, or to provide information on how to do them on a budget. I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review. |

I must say I'm not sure what I was expecting with the book. I like books that have facts and information about all of the states. This book was totally different from what I was expecting but in a good way. Each state is listed with fun things you can do outdoors. It discusses the weather, natural formations and what they are made of, activities you can do like rock climbing, horseback riding, and hiking. There's facts and information about animals, birds and insects from the various states. This would be really great to read with a child that is going to be traveling to different states. The illustrations have a nice flow to them with the text throughout. |

Fun book with beautiful illustrations. Each state focuses on one adventure activity, and then there are some related facts on the page. I wish there were more than one activity per state because it just felt kind of short. I don't think each state can be easily summed up in a single activity. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. |

A success, but I couldn't see myself recommending it to anyone outside the US. For every state we get a double-page spread, with very attractive artwork showing off one of the nature-based activities that can be done there, from surfing off California, to bouldering, or climbing frozen waterfalls, or whatever else seems most relevant to each region. Some seem endemic (the Iowa cycle trail, or a specific ice-skating venue), but many, like kayaking, could of course be found in more than one venue. Every time we also get an introductory paragraph, of course, and getting on for a dozen little snippets of text scattered around the landscape for us to find and read. These give us sound advice, or alert us to the wildlife people doing the activities might possibly see, or drop a little historical factoid (just when was Hawaii first colonised by plantlife?). So make no mistake, this is a geography volume much more than it is a sports guide, and it would be a great 'in' to the topic for many a reader who wouldn't like that designation if they were told it in advance. But no, it's not something I can see travelling to other shores. Three stars for us Brits, four for the Yankees. |

My kids and I absolutely adore this book. It’s full of fun facts and ideas for adventures for each state. The illustrations are lovely. We can’t wait to take it on the road! This is one we’ll return to again and again! |
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Unfortunately, I do not have the capability to read and review it in protected pdf format. Thank you. |
Each page has one of the states, in alphabetical order. I love the illustrations and colors, I thought they were beautiful. I love that each state includes a landmark to visit and what to do there. There are also fun facts about the wild life, history, nature, and events. This book would be great for not only kids but adults as well. I think this would be much more enjoyable in its physical form as I received a digital copy. This book gives great ideas and can help keep children and adults still dreaming. Thanks so much to the publisher and to Netgalley for the advanced copy. |
A beautiful book for children. We loved to read it. The Illustrations are very nice and beautiful. |
I absolutely love books by Quarto Publishing Group. They have beautifully illustrated non-fiction books. I just want to buy all of them. I loved this one, too. The adventures were very interesting, I have 50 new items in my bucket list :) The facts were interesting, too. But the illustrations were my favorite part, they were amazing. I had a little contradiction with this book. This book was written for children, but most of the adventures are too dangerous for them. I can't imagine a child climbing ice waterfall. This book was very nice, so I became interested in other books in this series |

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group Wide Eyed Editions for kindly providing me with a digital copy of this book for review. This book is STUNNING! Absolutely stunning! Each page is shear delight and the artist and production team have done an outstanding job on this book. The book is pretty self explanatory- it goes through 50 states in America and gives examples of activities that can be enjoyed in those places. There’s also a little bit of history thrown in, and I was pleased to see that Native American Indian history has also been acknowledged as well. I have certainly added a few places to my want to visit bucket list. I’m also adding this book to my children’s Christmas list because they are fascinated to learn about different parts of the world and I think this book would be even more of a treat in physical form. A most definite win for me! |
I really LOVED this book! It is fun for adults and kids. The pictures are gorgeous. This is perfect for an adventurous and curious child! I love the focus on the fifty states. The organization of one adventure and a bunch of small facts on each page make this an engaging book for all ages. I especially loved the last section about having adventures in your own neighborhood. |
I love this series of books. I like the illustrations and the different facts provided. I liked how they highlighted places to adventure in each state in this book. A great book for young explorers and their families. Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC! |
