The Polyglot series is an interesting and fun series and I hope the Victor Santos continues writing more! I love that you can go to the polyglot website and here the foreign words being pronounced correctly while you are reading the book. I also love that this book encourages kids to learn about other languages and that it is cool to know multiple languages.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Dylan and his little sister Isabella were off to the zoo with their parents and Dylan’s pet chicken, as it was a special day at the zoo. It was the only day in the year that people could bring their pets in with them.

Along their journey, the children saw many different areas and animals including one over friendly giraffe who takes a liking to Dylan’s chicken.

A Wild Day at the Zoo is the second book in the Little Polyglot Adventures about a little girl who can speak three languages. I haven’t read the first book but from what I can tell they work as standalones.

The plot felt relaxing and captivating as the children visit the animals. It is full of diverse characters too. The full-page illustrations are wonderful to look at and I’m sure young children will enjoy spotting the animals on the pages.

As well as a lovely story there are also six words included that are not in English (written in a different colour) – these are in Portuguese, Ukrainian, Spanish, and Turkish. Whilst I think it is an excellent idea to include different languages within children’s books as they pick up things a lot easier when they are little, I’m not sure on having four different languages and I personally feel that sticking to two would have been better so not to confuse the reader.

The translation of the words was also written at the bottom of the page in small writing, so not easily noticeable. I expected to see it next to the word they were learning as they would have to move away from the section they are reading to learn the translation and then go back to where they left off. I do like that you can scan the QR code in the book to hear the words being said though.

Overall, any book that educates children in a fun manner is worth reading in my opinion.

This book was just utterly adorable and even though I don't fit the target audience, I thought this book would be great for kids

Cute little book that has bright illustrations to keep children's attention throughout.
We all know that nobody would take a chicken to the zoo, but thats what made my daughter giggle.
Liked the fact there were lots of little facts thrown in too, along with all the multi cultural families.

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for granting me access to A Wild Day at the Zoo in exchange for an honest review.

A Wild Day at the Zoo is the story of a trilingual family who brings their pet chicken with them on a trip to the zoo. The concept of this story and the problem they encounter when the chicken ends up on the wrong side of a fence are cute and intriguing, and the reading level seems like it would be most appropriate for kids age 6-8.

I admit I was a little pulled out of the story by the descriptions of all the obscure pets families decided to bring to the zoo. I know lots of people who own chickens, exotic birds, ferrets, etc., but none of them would bring those small and flighty creatures to a park filled with larger predators. It's a cute concept for a small child, but as an adult reviewing this story (and as a parent potentially engaging in guided reading or evening storytime with a small child) this did occur to me, and I felt I should mention it.

I love the illustrations in this book and how they included fellow guest families of a variety of skin colours and cultural and religious clothing. This will both promote acceptance of diversity and ensure that a wide variety of readers see themselves in these pages.

I do also love the hints at trilingualism in this book. Dad speaks Portugeuse with the kids, Mom speaks Ukranian, and we can assume the kids speak English at school. Each time the kids address one of the parents for the first time within this book, the first bit of dialogue is in that other language with a footnote translation, then the text continues in English. I love these little samplings of other languages, but I wish the Ukranian sample had been a full sentence like the Portugeuse sample rather than just using the Portugeuse word for mother.

I see this is the second book by this author and featuring this family, so I'm hopeful that means there will eventually be a whole series of primary grade fiction titles with these little language samples.

This is a very interesting children's book, with beautiful illustrations that look very professional. The reason I found it so interesting is that there are six new words/expressions in the book which are in different languages.

The book is about a family who go to the city zoo to look at the beautiful animals there. They have to find a solution to a problem between their family pet and one of the zoo animals.

My daughter really enjoyed this book and I was happy to learn some new words from different languages.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A beautifully illustrated book with a nice story that focuses on inclusivity and different cultures and languages. This was a little lost on my four year old however he enjoyed the story and the pictures of Kiki the chicken’s adventure at the zoo.

The cover drew me to request this book because I found it eye catching. A story about a family who were looking forward to their visit at the city zoo where you could take your pet with you as long as they stayed by your side! I laughed when I saw their pet chicken in a backpack! The pictures are really cute and the story is sweet. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is such a cute story. For one day, one day only you can bring your pet to the zoo. Dylan brings his pet chicken, his sister Isabelle and his parents. The pictures were great.

The illustrations are beautiful throughout the book. I wanted to read it as my daughter loves the zoo. Apart from the actual font, i did enjoy it. A different but important message about communicating and engaging with others.

Motivation as well as curiosity are key in the children's desire to understand the world around them better. According to numerous studies, the more parents read to their children from an early age, the more they stimulate their imagination and curiosity, and the more strongly they instill love for the written word. However, care should be taken when choosing children's literature, especially in terms of content.

A Wild Day at the Zoo- Little Polyglot Adventures (Vol. 2) by Victor D. O. Santose is the perfect choice for all who have children for a huge number of reasons. To begin with, it must be noted that the main characters Dylan and Isabella are part of a multiethnic family, just like the other families in the zoo, which is not uncommon nowadays, but nonetheless can help children’s attitude and openness towards acceptance of different cultures and ethnicity. The very description of the family and their interactions will help children understand the importance of respecting and accepting cultural as well as linguistic differences. The mere fact that differences make us rich and knowledge of several languages is a great asset. The children get a unique chance to discover words in a foreign language such as Turkish, Portuguese or Ukrainian and to get acquainted with the idea that people can speak multiple languages,, in which country they speak one particular language etc.

What also thrilled me was the author's masterful way of inserting facts about animals in a very interesting and easy-to-remember way for children. This picture book offers an opportunity for children to get acquainted with the concept of a zoo, what it is for, what it really is. What species of animals can be seen there, some of their characteristics or continents where they live.

The pets are presented as part of the family, a concept children need to understand at an early age. At a time when the abuse of pets is quite common, every parent needs to influence the development of empathy and respectful behavior towards pets and animals, in general.

Isabella's feat serves as a great example of children being able to understand that not all solutions are conventional, and that they themselves can be involved in finding a solution, as can adults.Their ideas and contributions can be just as important and valuable.

You already assume that I am extremely delighted about this picture book, as well as the author, right? You are absolutely right. After a few hours, enjoying together with my daughter, the layers, as well as the endless possibilities and wisdom that this fantastic picture book offers, delighted barely describes what I feel about it. And can you imagine that tomorrow I have to go to the zoo? I would recommend the book to all parents wholeheartedly, and the visit to the zoo, as well.

The illustrations are beautiful and high quality on this book. The story is overall good, but the writing is a little stilted. There are phrases in other languages and the translations are given in footnotes which I think is confusing for kids. They could have woven the translation into the story. The page design and typeface choice do nothing to compliment the story and illustrations.

Dylan & Kiki's adventures continue in 'a wild day at the zoo'. It's bring your pet day at the zoo, and Kiki goes missing. It's up to Dylan & his family to get her back. I enjoyed this book more than the first. The giraffe was especially cute. I love that this series is continuing to teach phrases in unique languages.

Just read this book to my three and five year old children and they really enjoyed it. It was pretty exciting for them and both them and myself really enjoyed the random world trivia that was added in throughout the story. Also, of course the small potty humor with the elephant section was a hit.

I loved this book, even more so for its multicultural aspect. Dotted through the story are phrases in other languages with a very useful and unique link in the first few pages that gives an audio clip on pronunciation. An appealing story with lovely illustrations bound to keep children’s interest.

A Wild Day at the Zoo was a fun read to do with my kids. They learned about other cultures and especially about other languages. Plus, they love animals and the zoo! Great illustrations to go with the writing.

The second book on this excellent series.
A special animal day at the local zoo enables families to take their own pets to the zoo providing they look after them. A wild day could indeed be the headlines if the pets flew off and ran free.
Like feeding time at the zoo.- Stop all these thoughts this is a children’s book. Yet the concept works well in fiction and brings real joy to the story as it unfolds.

In book one, Dylan received a special birthday gift of a pet, chicken - Kiki. So we have them taking advantage of this magical day and Kiki joining them in a special backpack. The whole community are out at the zoo with their own pets - what could possibly go wrong?

These books are interesting and wonderfully original. Above it all, these stories include a multi-cultural element that is brought out especially through language. The daughter Isabella is particularly a fine role model using three different languages. She is termed a Polyglot (someone knowing and using several languages). I enjoy this dimension to a children’s story which makes kids aware of language as something exciting and to be embraced.
The publishers have even provided the means to hear the languages spoken,so we can have fun pronouncing them. In addition to learning their meanings, this brings colour and a lasting enjoyment to an already memorable story.
I had pleasure reading it to my young grandson. From his reaction I know older children will love it and demand all books in this entertaining and inventive series.
