I really enjoyed this. The market is saturated with missing child books but I thought this was a really good one.

I enjoyed the multiple perspectives and I loved finding out the characters' secrets as the story went on. It wasn't obvious (to me at least) who took Mabel and I had fun finding out. Ruby was a good character, flawed but overall a nice person.

My only critique would be that the mother and grandmother of the missing baby were just awful people, I wasn't sure that they deserved to have Mabel back! I don't mind unlikeable characters but it would have been nice for there to have been at least one positive aspect of Amber's personality.

I would recommend this.

i so enjoy this authors books always addictive and twisty .Amber now has it all a loving husband and a child that she so wanted . Ruby is the misfit sister who she only want s when it suits her .Amber s husband George cant stand Ruby s boyfriend . but not is all as it seem s . then George wants to take Amber for a weekend away .so they ask Ruby to look after Mabel . but someone is watching always waiting for the right time not saying no more but so so good

If you think you know what happened, you're wrong.

This book was absolutely thrilling. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, new evidence would present itself and I was left questioning my thought process. This story follows a couple, Amber and George, and the kidnapping of their infant daughter, Mabel. Mabel is taken from her cot while Aunt Ruby is babysitting.

The overall storyline was fantastic, I really enjoyed being wrong. That's when you know it's a good book. The evidence was revealed and everything slowly pieced together to form the final result. I loved that it kept moving, there were no dull moments throughout the story.

I wasn't a huge fan of both Amber and George. However, their characters worked in this role. Ruby was great, I loved her and could feel a great emotional connection with her. Because of the connection with the characters, you care about what happens to them.

Overall, I was very happy with this Psychological Thriller. I will definitely be putting Jess Ryder on my TBR list!

Amber and George have been together since school. Now they are married with a baby girl. Amber has their life all planned. From her career to what age she wanted her first baby, and then the second one.
Right now the first baby is extremely taxing. Her sister, Ruby told her she may have postnatal depression. She just hasn't been to a doctor yet
When Ruby suggests a night away, Amber and George decide to go with it.
Later when George is leaving for work for two nights, Amber feels overwhelmed watching the baby on her own. She calls Ruby to watch the baby while she goes to a retreat.
Being away from home is a big mistake. Someone has been watching. They want that baby. And they won't stop until they have her.
Great read. Interesting storyline.

So addictive and twisty. I really loved the story and plot. Kind of predictable but the ending was amazing.

I loved this book!! It tells the story of Amber and George, new parents to baby Mabel. They’ve been together since their teenage years, but are obviously finding things difficult with the new baby and the emotions that come with that. Amber is definitely the one who is finding the relationship difficult, so she asks her sister Ruby if she will babysit while her and George have a night away without the baby. I felt sorry for Amber initially, she was obviously tired and emotional and being a new mum is difficult. As the story moved on however, we begin to see things which don’t quite add up, and I deliberated over my feelings towards her.

The main part of the storyline is that baby Mabel is taken from the house whilst both Amber and George are away and Ruby is babysitting. We don’t know who has taken her or why, but we do know how as the storyline features an unknown character who has been following and watching Amber whilst she goes about her daily activities. Of course, we don’t discover who this is until much later in the book, but try as I might I couldn’t work out who it may have been!! There aren’t many characters in the book, and I looked suspiciously at each one of them, but every time I thought I’d worked it out, I was proved wrong!

The storyline twisted and turned throughout the book, not letting up until you reach the very end. I found the book captured my attention and held my interest all the way. At parts it felt quite chilling, particularly when the unknown person is watching both Amber and Ruby, and it was scary how easy it was for that person to actually take Mabel. The chapters alternate between the days without Mabel to the days with Mabel (from the viewpoint of the person who has taken her). This unknown person’s perspective had me on the edge of seat, and I genuinely felt afraid for Mabel whilst she was in this person’s care!

It wouldn’t be a good psychological thriller if there weren’t other mysteries thrown into the pot as well, and this book came with plenty of them! Many of the characters have their own secrets which threaten to come tumbling out as the story progresses – some I guessed, some I didn’t, but it was great trying to work out who was actually telling the truth or who else was hiding something! I finished this book very quickly, staying up into the early hours to do so as I just had to find out what was going on. The different reveals of all the secrets were great and they all fitted perfectly into the plot, with all the loose ends being tied!

Filled with family problems, secrets, lies and guilt, this book will keep you hooked until you have finished it. The writing style was great, not being overly complicated and you could really concentrate on what was going on! I’ve read books by this author before, and I will definitely be reading more! Thrilling, chilling and full of suspense – I would definitely recommend it!

This book took me a while to get into the story line, unusual for me with this author but I couldn't seem to get involved with the characters.

Although this book is well written I felt it was lacking for me personally with no twists to get my teeth into.

Wow what a ride! Finished this in 2 sittings. The mystery of who took baby Mabel kept me captivated until the very end! I loved that every character had their own secrets and well developed back story. Very scary plot. Highly recommend.

There have been a heck of a lot of missing-child stories in recent years. This one is slightly different in that we know from the outset what has happened to baby Mabel (I love that babies are now called Mabel), although not who is responsible or why.

The Night Away is actually two separate Nights Away for Amber and husband George, leaving Mabel with Amber’s younger sister Ruby (clearly their parents had a fondness for gems). When Mabel disappears from her cot in the middle of the night, everyone comes under suspicion, particularly Ruby and boyfriend Lewis. And of course the social media blame machine goes into overdrive.

There are a number of twists and turns along the way - after a while I did get an idea of what might be going on, though not in detail. It’s a fast and enjoyable read, though I didn’t really like any of the characters apart from Ruby - Amber was annoying and “Gorgeous George” just awful.

I didn’t like the references to Madeleine McCann - although Madeleine’s name will always come up when a young child is abducted, it somehow seems a bit tasteless to reference her in a work of escapist fiction.

I don’t think this is Jess Ryder’s best book, but a good read nevertheless.

This book kept me interested from the first page until the very end. This is a solid mystery. The goal was to find out who took baby Mabel. I gave this four stars because I felt like this was a fairly predictable book.

Jess Ryder is a fantastic author, and I have enjoyed everything she’s written. Her last is called The Night Away, and those who love thrillers and suspense will definitely want to get it. What I like about Jess’s books are the twists and unexpected turns the stories take, keeping me engaged and on my toes.

The Night Away is a great thriller! Who took baby Mabel? Themes of postpartum depression, marital troubles, rocky family dynamics and lies. Rich, flawed characters drive this moody drama. A must read for fans of Big Little Lies!.

The Night Away tells the story of a stolen child when the parents decide to have a break and leave her with family! Little do they know they’ve been watched by a woman that believes the child should be hers and has been plotting a calculated abduction.

I dropped everything as I was so excited to read this and finished it over 2 days! It’s a gripping story with twists and turns so I just couldn’t put it down. Just as you think you know what’s happening, new evidence seems to come to light.

I loved Jess Ryder’s writing style and thought she built up the characters and their relationships so well. You can relate to how each and every one is feeling (even if you don’t like them) and I truly sympathised with Ruby - it’s every babysitters worst nightmare! The story also shows that what you see isn’t always the complete story. Many family secrets are aired over the course of the book whilst they have portrayed the ‘picture perfect’ family to outsiders. The first chapter begins from the kidnappers point of view and it put me on edge immediately. It was fascinating to watch the story unfold from several different viewpoints.

I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends and 100% will be picking up another Jess Ryder book soon! Thanks so much NetGalley and bookouture for the captivating read!

New parents, Amber and George love their daughter Mabel, like any other parents would. Amber tries to be the perfect mother but is apparently struggling with post natal depression and suffers with frequent bouts of running away from the wailing baby to get some respite. She misses the nonchalant life before having a child. Hence, a NIGHT AWAY at a luxurious boutique hotel is the perfect remedy to her predicament. Her sweet little sister RUBY decides to be generous and proffers to babysit Mabel whilst the couple enjoy their much needed getaway.

But, its not this planned NIGHT AWAY when Mabel disappears but an unplanned one when both of the parents are away on the weekend SEPARATELY. Then begins the frantic search for the missing child.

The book was predictable, "WHO TOOK THE BABY" or rather "WHO's BABY". This book reminded me of the show GOSSIP GIRLS where EVERYONE HAS SLEPT WITH EVERYONE and there is no real Label to any relationships here. It was fine and scandalous for the show but for the book, it was NOT SO FINE. I did not like any of the characters or the character development in the book, AMBER needed AMBER ALERT for being so despicable.

I ham ambivalent about this book. It was just OKAY I guess, perfect for a LUDICROUS read!

There is far more to this story than what I have written, lots of secrets, guilt and family issues. An intriguing story that makes this novel a page turner and a very entertaining read.

A well written, gripping novel that preys on the fears of all new mothers. Jess Ryder has a great way with words and this is another superb novel of hers.

I seriously could NOT put this book down! It had me hooked from the beginning to the end. This book plays into the fears every new mother has about leaving her baby with someone else. Someone is watching Amber and wants to ruin her life? Amber and her husband George, desperate for a night away to have some time alone, come back home to find that tragedy has struck. The secrets that Amber has desperately hidden are slowly revealed. My mind was racing trying to figure out these secrets and once revealed my mind was blown. The author kept me guessing until the very end. Add this book to your reading list, you wont be disappointed!

This was an interesting read that I read in one sitting.

It was a slow paced thriller, with twists and turns. Although I found it quite predictable, it was still an enjoying read.
