The Night Away tells the story of a stolen child when the parents decide to have a break and leave her with family! Little do they know they’ve been watched by a woman that believes the child should be hers and has been plotting a calculated abduction. I dropped everything as I was so excited to read this and finished it over 2 days! It’s a gripping story with twists and turns so I just couldn’t put it down. Just as you think you know what’s happening, new evidence seems to come to light. I loved Jess Ryder’s writing style and thought she built up the characters and their relationships so well. You can relate to how each and every one is feeling (even if you don’t like them) and I truly sympathised with Ruby - it’s every babysitters worst nightmare! The story also shows that what you see isn’t always the complete story. Many family secrets are aired over the course of the book whilst they have portrayed the ‘picture perfect’ family to outsiders. The first chapter begins from the kidnappers point of view and it put me on edge immediately. It was fascinating to watch the story unfold from several different viewpoints. I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends and 100% will be picking up another Jess Ryder book soon! Thanks so much NetGalley and bookouture for the captivating read! |
I finished this one in two sitting. What an amazing psychological thriller! So many secrets has to be revealed to find little Mabel. I loved how every character have his own mark to make a great story. Thank you NetGalley, Jess Ryder and Bookouture for this ARC. |
New parents, Amber and George love their daughter Mabel, like any other parents would. Amber tries to be the perfect mother but is apparently struggling with post natal depression and suffers with frequent bouts of running away from the wailing baby to get some respite. She misses the nonchalant life before having a child. Hence, a NIGHT AWAY at a luxurious boutique hotel is the perfect remedy to her predicament. Her sweet little sister RUBY decides to be generous and proffers to babysit Mabel whilst the couple enjoy their much needed getaway. But, its not this planned NIGHT AWAY when Mabel disappears but an unplanned one when both of the parents are away on the weekend SEPARATELY. Then begins the frantic search for the missing child. The book was predictable, "WHO TOOK THE BABY" or rather "WHO's BABY". This book reminded me of the show GOSSIP GIRLS where EVERYONE HAS SLEPT WITH EVERYONE and there is no real Label to any relationships here. It was fine and scandalous for the show but for the book, it was NOT SO FINE. I did not like any of the characters or the character development in the book, AMBER needed AMBER ALERT for being so despicable. I ham ambivalent about this book. It was just OKAY I guess, perfect for a LUDICROUS read! |
I found this book an addictive page turner with some interesting characters and lots of twists and turns.</p> Amber and George need sometime alone together to rebuild their tired relationship. Since the birth of baby Mabel seven moths ago their relationship has suffered. Mabel is all Amber ever wanted but she struggles to cope with life in general. George decides to book a break for them in a luxury hotel to try and rekindle their love for each other while getting Amber’s sister to babysit. Amber feels uneasy never having left Mabel before and her anxiety is justified. While she drinks cocktails with George someone is watching Mabel's every move noting the families habits. This person is desperate for a child and Mabel is in danger. There is far more to this story than what I have written, lots of secrets, guilt and family issues. An intriguing story that makes this novel a page turner and a very entertaining read. I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. |

A well written, gripping novel that preys on the fears of all new mothers. Jess Ryder has a great way with words and this is another superb novel of hers. |
I seriously could NOT put this book down! It had me hooked from the beginning to the end. This book plays into the fears every new mother has about leaving her baby with someone else. Someone is watching Amber and wants to ruin her life? Amber and her husband George, desperate for a night away to have some time alone, come back home to find that tragedy has struck. The secrets that Amber has desperately hidden are slowly revealed. My mind was racing trying to figure out these secrets and once revealed my mind was blown. The author kept me guessing until the very end. Add this book to your reading list, you wont be disappointed! |
This was an interesting read that I read in one sitting. It was a slow paced thriller, with twists and turns. Although I found it quite predictable, it was still an enjoying read. Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this E-book to review via Netgalley. |
What an amazing novel! The characters were well drawn and the storyline flowed seamlessly. The mystery kept me guessing until the very end. Highly recommended! |
I like Jess Ryder and her books a lot so this was a really disappointing and difficult read. I was hoping for some big twist since there’s no mystery or shocks to be found here. The plot is given away very quickly and anyone with half a brain can see how this book will end. The characters are walking stereotypes. It ends exactly as expected with no twists which is why I’m so upset with this book! Before this I read Cara Hunters latest story so to go from such a high to a low isn’t great! This isn’t comparable to Jess’ previous books at all. She’s normally a master of thriller writing and this was no way up to usual standards. Honest this book is a bit meh. An okay 2/5 stars. |
A very chilling book, where a little baby girl Maple is taken by a stranger who has had her eye on the family for some time. This book covers many emotions, from sadness to anger, and I found the main character Amber a very hard character to engage with, I didn’t find myself having much empathy towards her, I found her to be a very unlikable character. That being said I really enjoyed the book and I found it very well written and gripping. |

Definitely a five star read. An emotional story with heartwarming and believable characters. I loved reading this novel, and actually I've read all of Jess Ryder's books. One comment: I didn't care for the book title but otherwise everything was fabulous! |
The Night Away by Jess Ryder is a compulsive and twisty read that I devoured in a single afternoon. Ms Ryder has become a must read author for me, and this one certainly did not disappoint. Amber and George are devoted parents to their seven month old daughter, Mabel. But Amber is struggling with the demands of motherhood, and George is at his wit's end. When Amber's sister Ruby offers to babysit so the couple can reconnect on a weekend away, the unthinkable happens, and little Mabel disappears without a trace. Someone has been watching and waiting for an opportunity to take what they believe to be theirs, and will stop at nothing to accomplish the task. But as secrets are revealed, it is anyone's guess as to who is responsible for plunging Amber and George into every parent's worst nightmare, This is a gripping whodunit that kept me guessing until the very end. 4.5 stars Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC. |
I started this book late on a Friday night and stayed up until I could finish it. This book is unputdownable! The first chapter of this book is one of the creepiest things I have ever read. You learn of a stalker but not who the stalker is but just that she is in a children's playground wishing to interact with the children. These first few paragraphs will stick with me for a long time. Amber and George are a couple who have been together since their teens and have a 10 month old little girl named Mabel. Amber is suffering from post-partum depression and her sister Ruby offers to stay with Mabel while Amber and George take a night away. The following weekend has Ruby, babysitting again. And Mabel has disappeared with no sign of a break-in. Who could have taken the baby? Every single person in this book has secrets and all of them point to Mabel. The Night Away has the reader doing double takes at each turn in this book. There are so many twists that I felt like I had whiplash at the end. Again, unputdownable. I loved this book. *Thanks to NetGalley, the Publisher and Jess Ryder for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.* |
I finished this book in one sitting. It had me gripped from the very beginning but I almost wanted to stop a few time because Amber is a truly horrible! horrible! human! There is not one nice thing I can stay about her. Actually other than Ruby (and the baby) there is not one likeable character in the entire book (and the mother!!! My god!!! What a fucking bitch!!!) But it kept my interest and i needed to know who did it. Was I wowed by the outcome? No if I'm honest. It was a weak and disappointing revelation. But still a good read |

Oh my, what a book. Little Mabel goes missing while her aunt is watching her for the weekend. Mom is supposedly at a yoga retreat, dad is on a business trip. Accusations and blame are thrown at everyone. The ending was quite a shocker. This book is fast paced, never a dull moment. This was one that I could not put down.. My first read by this author, but will definitely not be my last. Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. |
Amber and George book a night away to give Amber a break from their baby Mabel and to spend some quality time together, leaving Amber's sister Ruby to babysit. What they don't know is that someone is plotting something and has been watching Amber and Mabel for a awhile... Things go really wrong the following weekend when both Amber and George are away on separate trips. Ruby, babysitting again, is shocked to find the cot empty and no trace of Mabel, and no sign of a break-in. Who could have taken the baby? It soon becomes apparent that everyone has secrets they are hiding, and that one of these may explain who is behind the abduction... Can Mabel be found before it is too late...? This was the first book by Jess Ryder I have read and it won't be the last - I absolutely loved it. The story was gripping and well-written, keeping you hooked and in suspense all the way through. The twists and turns were fantastic and you are kept guessing until the end. I completely recommend this book. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback. |

I thought this book was a little predictable but overall I did enjoy it. The beginning of the book starts with the stalker/kidnapper’s thoughts and actions which are very creepy. There are chapters with this thrown in throughout the book. I enjoyed the writing style. I thought this was a suspenseful, well written book with some twists. |
#TheNightAway #NetGalley Ryder will give you a ride to the deepest secrets of a marriage. Brilliant. Are you married? Having a baby is so awesome, haven't it? But what would you do if someone wants to steal your baby from you? What if someone is watching your every move, making notes of where you go and at what time to which place? Creepy, isn't it? I was intrigued in Ryder's latest novel. As I was expecting it to be intriguing, I must say I wasn't disappointed when I went in the deepest secrets a wife can hold from a husband. Clearly, it's a work of commercial fiction. First you think that you knew Amber but then you think no you were wrong. Then you think that you knew it's final twist. I bet you will definitely proved wrong. It's that much hell of a psychological thriller. I loved Amber and George. Although I loved that one character of which I don't want to talk here but they're brilliant in their role. I'm doing more promotion on the 2nd of Nov among my fellow Authors, Bloggers, Friends, Family and Followers. I'm sure everyone will be going to love it. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy of this brilliant psychological thriller. |
