A thriller you won’t want to put down.

After a bad divorce, Kate’s living with her sister Alexa, her husband and their beautiful one-year-old daughter Florence. Alexa fears leaving the house alone due to past trauma, so Kate’s an important part of making their lives work.

When Kate is accused of causing the wrongful deaths of two patients at the hospital where she works, Alexa’s her number one supporter, until Florence gets hurt while Kate was alone with her. Then Alexa begins to question everything she thought she knew.

I related to Alexa’s character. She’s trusting with those she loves, fearful of the outside world and completely out of her element with what she has to face once Kate’s arrested. This was a quick read with lots of great twists.

I was fortunate to receive a copy of this ARC from NetGalley.

This is the first book by K.L. Slater that I've read and it won't be the last!

It was such a compelling read, a real page turner, as to what was happening at the hospital, what had happened in Alexa's past and was baby Florence safe?

It kept me guessing right up until the end and I didn't guess right!

My favourite quote:
"There's a floodgate holding back my emotions and I wonder how long it will hold."

Alexa and her husband have a darling 1-year-old little girl. Carrie, Alexa's sister, lives with them. Carrie loves her niece and would do anything for her. Alexa's husband does not trust Carrie and wants her to move out.

Carrie is a senior nurse at the local hospital. When two suspicious deaths occur during her watch, she is accused of t he crimes and suspended from her job.

And that leads to a lot of questions. What is the secret that the sisters share? Could Carrie be a danger to her niece? What is Carrie lying about? Why is she stalking the doctor that reported her?

And when her niece is hurt under her watch, Alexa wonders if her sister is unstable ... and guilty of the crimes she's accused of.

Then, Carrie disappears with Alexa's daughter.

The plot is entangled with secrets, lies, and cover-ups amid a back drop of suspicion that starts with the very first page. Varied twists and turns are riveting. The characters are deftly drawn. I especially liked how Alexa changes as her life spins out of control.

Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological drama. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

The Girl She Wanted is one twist after another. Newer mother Alexa is trying to just make it through day to day with her daughter Florence, husband Perry and older sister Carrie who has moved in and doesn't seem to have plans to leave soon. Carrie, a respected nurse leader, works at a hospital that has come under suspicion for recent patient deaths. Shockingly (to Alexa) Carrie is at the center of suspicion. Alexa refuses to believe Carrie could have any culpability until an incident with Florence forces Alexa to look at Carrie differently. With her husband demanding Carrie move out, Florence's injury and Alexa's frequent disappearing acts is everyone else right?

This is a decent read from K.L. Slater and you are really taken down one path and then the shocks keep on coming! The main characters were decently developed although Alexa was almost too naive and forgiving but the reasons behind it are unraveled. Her relationship with her husband could have been more fleshed out however it is an enjoyable psychological mystery with the twists and turns.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

Alexa lives with her husband Perry, their daughter Florence and her sister Carrie, a temporary tenant after a bitter divorce. This is about the only true statement I can write about The Girl She Wanted, an awesomely twisted psychological thriller that will keep you reading and uncovering one unexpected surprise after another.

Alexa is fragile, although you don’t know why, and seemingly unable to take care of her young daughter without the help of her sister Carrie, a nurse at a nearby hospital. Her vulnerability isn’t helped by her husband’s frequent long absences. He works on an oil rig in the North Sea and is gone for weeks at a time. When Carrie is arrested for the murders of two patients on her ward, Alexa is her fierce defender. However, as the evidence mounts against Carrie, Alexa weakens. And when Perry turns against her and Florence is injured while Carrie watches her, Alexa makes a decision that will have unforeseen consequences that affect her entire family.

Although I loved this mystery and was totally shocked by the conclusion, I think that the title is totally wrong. I have no idea what it relates to. However, you won’t be able to put this one down. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and K.L. Slater for this ARC.

This is another good page turner from the author KL Slater and a great book for those looking for a tense and twisty plot.
The story is told from several points of view and centres around an allegation at a hospital that two patients have died in the A&E department under suspicious circumstances. The main drama is centred around the family of the nurse accused of the crimes, Carrie Parsons and the family of her sister Alexa and her husband Perry, who all live together following Carries messy divorce.
A junior doctor makes the initial whistleblow and points the authorities in the direction of Carrie.
Drama unfolds including Alexa remembering times in her past where big sister and wannabe doctor Carrie made her poorly so she could make her better.
There are many twists and turns in this story and you are led up a path and then consider another and are still completely wrong footed. The characters are well written although many are unlikeable, however I am sure this is the intention.
I found the lead to the end a bit rushed and the swift recovery made by the past events that Alexa had suffered a bit too quickly sewn up, however this is a good book and well worth reading. I shall be recommending it to others, as I have previous novels.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Problems at work. Problems at home . And the dynamics of two sisters not quite sure of their relationship with each other. The story centres around the sisters and although starts off at a slower pace whilst the scenes and characters are set, once it gets going there is no stopping and you just want to know more with each page. There is also a great ending which I didn't see coming and so yet again K.L.Slater has written another fantastic book .
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC to review and my opinions are wholly my own.

Alexa has always looked up to her big sister Carrie. Carrie lives in Alexa's family home and adores her one year old niece Florence. Alexa doesn't know how they would cope without her. Carrie is suspended from her job as a senior nurse. She's accused of the most terrible crime. Alexa's husband doesn't trust Carrie. He wants her out their house. Then Florence is hurt while she is in Carrie's care and Alexa starts to wonder if her husband is right.

After two suspicious deaths, suspicion falls on Carrie Prsons. The plot is complex and told from multiple points of view. I wasn't sure if Carrie had been set up or if she actually did what she was accused off. Carrie lived with her sister Alexa, her husband Perry and her niede Florence. Alexa is grateful for the help she receives from her sister until people start questioning the safety of her daughter. I'm a little confused by the title of this novella as it doesn't appear to have any connection to the story. But it will still keep you guessing.

I would like to thank #NetGalley, #Bookouture and the author #KLSlater for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ooh this is a brilliant book.
Carrie lives with her younger sister Alexa, her husband Perry and their one year old daughter, Florence.
There are a few tensions between them but nothing like what is caused when Carrie who works as ward manager at the local hospital, is arrested on suspicion of causing two patients’ deaths.
Perry wants her to move out but Alexa wants to help her and stand by her.
Social services then receive a report from someone saying they’re concerned for Florence’s welfare so start investigations.
Perry tells Alexa not to leave their daughter alone with Carrie but she thinks he’s over-reacting, until Florence gets hurt in Carrie’s care, and then Alexa starts to question everything.
I can’t say too much more as I really don’t want to spoil it.
This book made me suspicious of many characters but I still didn’t work it all out! It’s very cleverly written and I loved the ending.
This is a brilliant read.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Thank You Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC!
There are two death that occur in close timeframe to one another and Carrie is present for both of them. As one can image the evidence starts to pile against her...

Thank You Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC!

When two unexplainable deaths occur in the hospital almost six months' apart, Dr. Nathan Mosley, a junior doctor reports them and the main suspect of the deaths was the ward manager, Carrie Parsons as she was present at both their deaths. While evidences are mounting against Carrie, Carrie's sister, Alexa believes that her sister is innocent although her husband Perry believes otherwise. Then Alexa's daughter gets hurt and it was Carrie who was looking after her. Does Alexa know her sister?

I really like the suspense in the story. It kept the reader on the edge. Did Carrie really kill those two patients or was someone trying to frame her? These questions are tumbling into the reader's minder as I kept reading. This is a fast paced thriller, addressing some family and personal issues, particularly between Perry and Carrie as Perry didn't want Carrie to be living with them. The ending was quiet unexpected and didn't see that coming!

Overall, this is a fast paced thriller, quiet a page turner keeping the reader at suspense. Worth five stars!

KL Slater does it again. This is one author that you know will spin a good tale. It’s a true psychological thriller. The characters are well developed and layered, not like ale really but engaging all the same. The plot is full of twists and had some great surprises hidden through the book. It starts off a bit slowly but picks up pace as facts and secrets start spilling. You will think you figured this out but most likely you’ll be wrong. It definitely a must read for this year. I would give it a 5 but I take away half a start because I’m not sure I understand how the title ties in to the plot.

A really enjoyable book as always from Ms Slater. Plenty of twists along the way and with great characters throughout. My only niggle with this book is that I don't see the relevance to the title or cover? This is a bit misleading and the story really wasn't anything like I expected from that.

Alexa relies on her sister Carrie who due to circumstance lives with her, her husband Perry and their baby daughter but after eight months of this living arrangement things are strained between Carrie and Perry then when Carrie is accused of a serious crime at work Alexa finds herself torn between her loyalties to both sister and husband whilst trying to protect her baby daughter. This is a great read for playing with your mind and wondering just what Carrie is capable of more and more as the story progresses, I was questioning Alexa’a blind faith in her sister despite all evidence then the twist had me amazed.

K.L Slater has to be one of my favourite British writers. When I get one of her books I know I won't be doing anything till I've turned the last page. This book is no exception. To start off with I was thinking ' This isn't one of her best' then pow, the story starts unfolding its layers to bring you a dam good story.
Alexa is mum to Florence and wife to Perry. Her sister Carrie lives with them following the breakdown in her marriage. Perry and Carrie have tensions and he wants her out. Then Carrie is suspended from a job as a senior nurse at the Kings Mill Hospital.. There have been two unexplained deaths and the finger of suspicion is pointing straight at Carrie.
Perry has all the more reason to want Carrie out. Then whilst she is looking after Florence the little girl has an accident. Alexa wants to believe her sister but should she. Especially with the police and social services believing she's guilty.
