A really quick and lighthearted read.

Olive, a lawyer about to go on a retirement, gets an email with a very disturbing video - her husband cheating with a very young woman. Now, a bit naive, Olive thought she had a very strong marriage, and never suspected her husband was a long time cheat. When the woman in the video ends up dead, and the evidence against Olive piling up, she starts to rethink her whole life and starts investigating her husband with a help of a grieving private investigator.

The characters in this story were all very nice, and sweet. Except of course for the killer, Olive's cheating husband Richard, and the evil son in law. There's naivety to Olive that was endearing, especially since she worked as a divorce lawyer all her life and missed all the signs about her husband.

The story flowed pretty well. Though who the killer was became apparent very soon. The ending was a bit rushed for my liking, and wrapped up way too neatly. I do like that Olive in the end found her new self without her husband controlling her.

62 year old divorce attorney, Olivia Sinclair, thought her life was perfect. She was a divorce attorney happily married on the brink of retirement. This all changed when she opened an email of her husband and a young girl filmed during sex. The sender was anonymous, she soon discovers her husband was a serial philanderer and the young girl was his secretary.

The secretary was found dead and all evidence points to Olivia being the jealous wife and killing her husbands mistress.

She is remanded on house arrest and now has to figure out who the real killer is and why to get herself free, even if that means her husband might be the guilty one.

This was a quick and easy read and had a twist I didn’t expect and relished it. If you enjoyed ‘The Perfect Marriage’, you will love this book as well!

The Betrayal was a binge read I finished in one sitting! It was fast paced with unpredictable twists. I really enjoyed Olivia even though at first I didn’t think I’d relate to her because she’s older but I definitely appreciated her character and her wisdom, she kept it together and held her own. I loved the court room/ police procedural aspect of this book too. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a binge worthy thriller!

I was provided ARC by Netgalley an publisher in exchange for the honest feedback.

It was fast read for me. It is a murder mystery where lawyer Olivia Sinclair receives a video of her husband having an affair. Her husband mistress is murderer and Olivia is the suspect. In addition , Olivia suspects her daughter's husband is having an affair which she is not able to prove due to which Olivia has a very delicate relationship with her daughter .

The book is fast paced and characters are etched out well. I was able to figure out who the murderer was after first few chapters so that was a spoiler for me.

This isn’t my usual type of book, but I really enjoyed it. It’s not what I would call a particularly deep or meaningful book but it’s very enjoyable. I didn’t realise but this is the first book in what is to be the author Terry Lynn Thomas's new series.
Olivia is a great character, sharp, independent and tough - I will definitely be reading her next adventure. The plot was fast paced and interesting though not particularly original.
There are plenty of twists and turns but the ending was somewhat predictable however I didn’t mind too much as the characterisation was brilliant.

This was such a great book. The characters were believable, as was the plot. Definitely recommend this book!

Attorney Olivia Sinclair is shocked when she receives an anonymous video showing her husband Richard sleeping with someone else. After years of handling other people’s divorces, she thought she could recognise a marriage in trouble.

She angrily throws Richard out of the home they share. But days later she’s arrested—for the murder of his mistress.

Olivia knows she’s innocent but, with all the evidence pointing at her and an obvious motive, she must find the real killer to clear her name.

She may be used to dealing with messy divorces, but this one will be her most difficult case yet. Olivia’s husband has already betrayed her—but would he set her up for murder?

From my blog: Always With a Book

This is the first book in Terry Lynn Thomas's new series and it was good. It's also the first book I've every read by her and I will definitely be checking out what else she has written.

This book is a fast-paced, gripping psychological thriller. There are plenty of twists and turns and I loved that it kept me on my toes throughout. This one really takes off running and never really lets up. I loved how even though Olivia is in a race to prove her innocence, she never loses her cool. She is insistent on being part of the team working to figure out just what is going on and I loved how she worked together with her lawyer and the PI.

I also loved that Olivia is a more mature protagonist - she's on the brink of retirement. There aren't too many books with female protagonists who are of such an age and I really appreciated this. And I think this really shows true in her character when she is able to come at her predicament in a more logical approach rather than an emotional one.

This book is filled with so many suspects and while I had my suspicions about who the guilty party was, this in no way detracted from my enjoyment of the book as I had no idea of the why. And I needed to know not only that but also how it all plays out.

This was such an enjoyable, entertaining, quick read and I am definitely curious to see where this series goes from here.

Olivia is looking forward to starting her retirement and is caught in a whirlwind of emotion after she receives a video of her husband with a much younger woman. When this women ends up murdered, Olivia is the prime suspect due to emails sent in her name and a purchase with her credit card for the vacation spot the body was found in. Working in the law business, she has powerful friends to help her make her case and one investigator comes out of his own retirement with curiosity to how this case is tied to another from years ago that remains unsolved. Was the husband responsible? The law partner? Was this Olivia? This story will keep you guessing and connecting the dots.

I did enjoy this read, but I had a hard time relating to the characters. I was so angry with the mother / daughter relationship throughout the book, I couldn’t imagine having that poor of a relationship. Also, left wondering about the brewing love interest at the end, wish there would have been some closure there.

Olivia Sinclair is a young 62 yo attorney living and loving life with her husband in San Francisco. 6 months away from retirement she discovers her husband is having an affair. And then she is accused of killing his mistress. Oh my! Don't rile this woman up! Even on house arrest, Olivia works hard to clear her name, extricate her creep of a husband from her life, and connect with her daughter. Ms. Thomas does a terrific job of creating the foundation for a new series without bogging down this first book down with background detail while ignoring the mystery to be solved. It was a well balanced and engaging book! I am excited to see what Olivia does next!

If you're looking for a fast-paced thriller, pick this one up. From the beginning, you will be guessing which betrayal holds truth until the very end. The plot is intense, but detailed so you will feel each betrayal when you learn the truth. One standout is how engaging this story is very early on. The immersive experience will have you attached to the characters and urning to find out what happens to them in this web of lies.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy of this book.

This story drew me in and I ended up reading the book in less than a day. I had a hard time putting it down!

Olivia is an attorney looking forward to her retirement and enjoying her retired years. She is blindsided when she receives evidence of her husband cheating. She was a divorce attorney and thought she could recognize cheaters.

She throws her husband out of the home but days later is arrested for the murder of his mistress.

This book was a page turner and I wanted to find out what was happening.

I am writing this review just as soon as I finished reading this book and that too in one sitting. I couldn't stop reading it and just couldn't wait to get to the ending, so that I could find out who the real killer is. Nothing else can show how completely I enjoyed the book. I really liked it.

The fast-paced narrative of the book kept me completely hooked till the end and there was not one thing which actually slowed down the story.

Only one point slightly against the book, for me, is that I could guess who the killer was, almost 1/3rd into the book. But that didn't take away from the thrill of the story. The developing relationship between 2 central characters didn't hurt as well.

I loved how the characters were written and their travel over the book. I loved the flowing, easy- to-keep-up writing style of the author and can't wait to read more of her work.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wish to read a superb, fast-paced, well- written thriller. Thanks to Netgalley and the author for this ARC.

“The Betrayal” is a well-written classic mystery about a retirement-age divorce lawyer who learns her husband is cheating...and then finds herself enmeshed in an even more serious (and dangerous) situation.

I found this book entertaining and liked the setup of the mystery, and the writer is able. However, I found the writing somewhat formal, leaning towards old-fashioned. This is probably just a personal quirk, and those who like more classic mysteries or cozies will still be entertained. This book also struck me on one of my personal biases as I formerly worked at the San Francisco DA’s office, and the story didn’t really capture the right tone or procedure of that office. To me it was somehow the tone of a British mystery but set in the Bay Area, which was confusing. Nevertheless, I suspect my personal quirks probably just make me a less than ideal reader for this book. The writer is good, the mystery is good, and I would definitely recommend this book more for fans of cozies or detective series - just not the right fit for me on a day when I was expecting a contemporary domestic thriller.

Thanks to HQ Digital, NetGalley and the author for the ARC!

Terry Lynn Thomas’s “The Betrayal” is a murder mystery thriller that won’t disappoint. The cleaver prolog captures the reader with the last sentence—She did not know she had less than fifteen hours to live.

Thomas has written a brilliant double murder mystery with all things that make a great read. “The Betrayal” contains strong and well-developed characters, especially lead Sharon Bailey, Oliva, Brian, and Stephen Vail. The author excelled in building the characters that you will love to hate, too; Richard, David, Andrew, and Greensboro. The plot is well thought out and will take you on twists and turns until the end of the story. The story flows seamlessly from chapter to chapter keeping the tension wound up between the characters until the murderer is revealed at the end. I loved this Kindle edition story.

I hope the author continues to create more Sharon Bailey mystery thrillers and some of the great characters she has created within this story.

Thank you, NetGalley and Terry Lynn Thomas for the enjoyable five-star read.

Terry Lynn Thomas writes an entertaining mystery set in California about a divorce lawyer named Olivia Sinclair. In this first book of a new series, on the day of her 62nd birthday, Olivia receives her birthday gift from her husband, Richard - a platinum necklace complete with an antique skeleton key pendant studded with diamonds. Later in the day, she is sent an email containing the link to a video of his philandering. After enduring the surprise party he has organised for her she throws him out of their lovely home but then becomes the number one suspect when his mistress is murdered. As the evidence begins to mount she has to prove her innocence.

Terry Lynn Thomas's novel contains a stirring mix of tension, mystery and suspense, and this offering, The Betrayal is a guilty pleasure type of story filled with drama, and unpersonable characters, barring Olivia who is a great, relatable protagonist. The assemblage of characters all have individual issues that are threaded throughout the story. As the tale unfolds things are not what they appear to be. Loyalties are tested and friendships are put to the test as Olivia struggles to prove her innocence. A rapid read, I'm eager for more in the series and I'm wondering what else Terry Lynn Thomas has up her sleeve for the main characters.

In short, The Betrayal was a tempting, drama-filled treat.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HQ Digital via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Olivia Sinclair knows when a marriage is broken - after yers as an attorney dealing with countless disastrous divorces, she can always see the signs.

Until now.

When an anonymous video of her own husband sleeping with an unidentified mistress makes its way into her inbox everything changes. She barely even has time to throw him out of her house and accept the loss of the last twenty-five years of her life before the unthinkable happens and Olivia has been arrested for the murder of this mystery Other Woman.

This is set to be the most difficult case of her life so far - with fellow laywer Stephen and mysterious PI Brian they have to find a way to prove her innocence but the evidence is pretty damning. Could it be Richard? He's already betrayed her once, could he be capable of this? Her terrifyingly controlling Son-In-Law? Another mistress?

Even the first nameless, faceless chapter packed the first of many punches and seamlessly set th tone of uneasy, unsettling tension that carried us all the way through this easily binge-read thriller.

From a whole line-up of unsavory characters that surround Olivia and her family, each more unlikeable than the last, it was a guessing game that's very easy to lose trying to figure out just who could've done this.

I read The Betrayal last week and I guessed who it was pretty early on! I couldn’t figure out why and didn’t know until the end, but I just had a feeling. This one kept me so engaged and I couldn’t put it down! You can get this one now!

Olivia is a top notch attorney at the end of her career when she receives an explicit video of her husband and another woman. She is shocked! She throws Richard out of their home, but then just days later she is arrested for the murder of his mistress. She knows she is innocent but now all the evidence is pointing at her. Did her husband really set her up to take the fall for this murder?
