I love reading the 12 Dukes of Christmas series by Erica Ridley but this book was not my favorite. The romance felt lackluster. This is the first "clean" book in the series, I think I missed the steaminess!

One Night With a Duke is the tenth book in the 12 Dukes of Christmas series. This was a sweet romance and a great addition to the series. The characters were charming and easy to like. It was a short but easy book to read and very enjoyable.

I have received this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
Erica Ridley has done it again - sweet, short, heartwarming story of probably the biggest jester you have ever read (but a lovable one, I assure you) and a self-sufficient, determined young woman who is also not precisely a pale English rose. Kudos to Miss Ridley for making her lead a woman of color before Bridgerton made it fashionable. All the twelve Dukes of Christmas made for wonderful comfort reads (though I would personally prefer a bit more steam in them too)

I received with thanks e-arc copy of One Night with a Duke from Webmotion and Netgalley .

This is my review of One Night with a Duke by Erica Ridley.

Every time I read a book by Erica Ridley and I am blown away by the writing style and the storyline. This book was no exception. This was a wonderful edition to the 12 Dukes of Christmas. I enjoyed the romance between Angelica and Jonathan. As always cannot wait to read more by this author.

Would recommend if you enjoy a good historical romance.

This was a fluffy romance about two people from different ways of life falling in love during the holidays (maybe even, in spite of the holidays). I truly did enjoy reading this story. The setting was really cute - it had a sort of Christmas village whimsicality to it that I think helped set the tone. Also, the heroine Angelica is a black jeweler who has a passion for her work and doesn't diminish her talents for anyone.

Though lacking in tension, I felt the characters were developed just enough for me to be invested in their romance. Plus, they were so sweet together. Perfect for the holidays!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!

3.5/5

I was very interested in reading this novel based on the cover but I didn't realize that it isn't #ownvoices. As excited as I was and as hopeful as I was based ons o many positive reviews (thought they were mostly by white women readers), I just couldn't prioritize reading this book instead of one by a Black woman. Romance and historical romance needs more inclusive titles but that starts with the higher ups in publishing ensuring that they are diversifying their hiring and supporting authors of colour better.

Angelica is a workaholic jeweler working her life away to build her business and become a success. As a black woman in the 1800s that is no small task. She’s spent the last 7 years creating beautiful pieces of jewelry in her shop in a small northern town and despite the fact that she literally works around the clock she’s still always got more work to do. And not even the time to spend the holidays with her family who have made the trek up from London just to spend time with her. With her latest Christmas commission she believes she will finally reach the level of success that she’s been striving so long for... if only a stranger didn’t stumble into her shot to upend her life....

Johnathan is a wanderer with no home no long term friends and no desire to stay in any one place for very long. He’s also good at finding business opportunities and investing in the people who need it most. He’s on the run from his past and all the bad memories never wanting to put down roots or get too attached to anyone or anything. He also hates Christmas and has come to a town nicknamed Christmas. If that wasn’t bad enough the business meeting he arrived for is delayed due to a snow storm leaving him stranded in a very Christmasy town. During the course of his usual wandering about he comes across Angelica’s shop. And suddenly his life of wandering isn’t looking as enjoyable than it once did....

Two very different people with two very different lives collide and in each other they learn to find a balance in their lives. Angelica needs to make time to live not just work and Johnathan needs to stop running and accept that home is more than a place and friends and family aren’t just the people who leave you behind.

Twas a cute sweet Chrismasy story that I very much enjoyed.

Erica Ridley is a talented writer. Her characters are charming and fun. The book is full of humor as well. Her story captures the time period accurately. I was surprised how real her books feel. Once again, this book, like her previous books, went by fast. One Night with a Duke tells how a jeweler working her way through society and a Duke who dreams of things he didn't think he could have. Until her met her...

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

I have really enjoyed the books in this series but this one I had a struggle to really relate to the two characters, Jonathan and Angelica. It took me to about the middle of the book until I really couldn't put the book down.

Trying to figure out how they were going to resolve their life goals when they were so opposite was intriguing. They each had their own goals and Angelica's was to stay at her shop and become a success, while Jonathan wanted to travel and make money.

Good thing they each figured out that they could compromise and still reach their goals and even have their love a reality!

This was a fast, light read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Angelica and Jonathan were strong characters that I truly liked and rooted for their relationship. This was a great escape.
Many thanks to WebMotion and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

A fun, romantic, adventurous book between two people who seem like an unlikely pair. I enjoyed this book without having read any others in the series.

This was another great book to read. I enjoy all the Duke books and was not disappointed. There was romance, humour and a good story that kept me interested. The two main characters were funny, hardworking, kind and sincere. I would recommend that you read this book.

Another great instalment in the series. I enjoyed this one even more than the previous ones because it's more angsty and steamy.
Looking foreword to more

Love the concept of this series. In this story Angelica is a jeweler and is working hard to make a name for herself. Jonathan is a sexy Scotsman staying in the village and getting to know people ;) This is a slow burn romance and you can tell they are meant to be. It's a great historical romance escape perfect for the holiday season.

Another interesting charming romance in this series.
Jonathan a travelling man a mass free rolling stone no home of his own a friend to all so many story to tell but alone
Angelica Black characters an incomparable jewellery locked in place a slave to her dream and alone.
Both of them the should not have anything in comment. A snowstorm lock them in the Cressmouth and circumstances allow them to get to know and begin to care for one another.
I like the writing, the storyand series.
I love that this one include a black character.

There were two things I immediately fell in love with in this book. The first was Jonathan. His personality was so unique, He is extroverted , quick to tip extremely well, and almost puppy like in his desire to have conversations and experience new things. When the reader learns about the painful reason behind his congenial nature it's bittersweet and you LONG for him to have a home.

The second thing is Angelica. I got this book from netgalley, and I'm fortunate to be contacted with opportunities to review the book. Since the e-arc didn't include a copy of the cover I was so excited to learn that Angelica is Black. Ridley doesn't shy away for discussion of slavery and the struggles Angelica has to make her way in the world on her own.

I also loved Angelica's practical nature and dedication to her work. She also doesn't immediately fall to Jonathan's charge and it's interesting watching him struggle with someone who doesn't show interest in him immediately. Such a wonderful romance!

This is a story I was waiting for. I love this series and look forward to reading more. Jonathan and Angelica were a refreshing pair to read. This book had me laughing especially when Angelica called Jonathan Lord Relish McChatterbox. I wish we could have know a little bit more about their past lives and that the story was longer.
