Night Music - Jojo Moyes

I adore Jojo Moyes writing style and how she can really take you into the story and different scenarios. This book takes us through love and loss, with a good strong leading character. I usually love all her books but I did find this one a bit of a slow burner and quite different to her others books. Still a very enjoyable read, many thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton fro allowing me the chance to read and review this one.

I loved Me before You by Jojo Meyes so I was expecting to love this book. I struggled with the characters and the story really. I just found Isabel was such a lackluster character, Matt was a jerk. The story was too far fetched. I don’t think in real life any of this would happen. I don’t want to give away anything but the ending sucked. Sorry for the poor review but this wasn’t a very good book.

I love the author's books and i'm so glad to be able to go back and read some of her older stories.
The night music is about a beautiful artist, a single mother that life has given her a hard challenge lately in every possible way and she needs to find a solution to be back on track and secure a normal life for her son.
It's beautiful written, with many angsty moments and heartbreaking ones, but also fulfilling for what passion and love means.Following your dreams in what your passionate about can bring more happiness when less expected.
A charming story

I was a little put off when I read some negative reviews, but I am glad that chose to read this book.
Isobel's seemingly perfect life is shattered when her husband is killed in a .car crash and she is forced to move from their home in London to a dilapidated house in Norfolk.
I was hooked from the first chapter. The characters all had faults, but that made the story interesting, watching them grow through them and in some cases emerge a better person.

This is an enjoyable read.

I have read several of Jojo Moyes' novels and have enjoyed them - this one, though, just didnt do it for me. We have a widowed musician and her children. Two men who each like her - one is wealthy, sleeps around and doesnt care about his family, the other is the strong silent type who obviously has a past. His name is 'Byron Firth'!!!! No surprise as to who we are supposed to be going for. Moyes even creates a scene where our boy Firth emerges from swimming in a lake with his muscular torso gleaming and his hair slicked back - sending our widow's heart racing!! Oh puhlease!!! Yes we all loved Colin Firth doing his Darcy bit - but be original for goodness sake!!

Moyes does a good job with the supporting cast as usual - and if you like your romance slushy and predictable then this is for you
but not for me!

Night Music is my second Jojo Meyes read, first being Me Before You. I enjoy Jojo Meyes books as they have lot of drama, emotion and the story has potential to be made into a movie!

Night Music story revolves around an old Spanish house that been been inherited by Isabel Delaney. Owner of the Spanish house Mr. Pottisworth is her distant uncle and he left the house to London based niece Isabel. The inheritance comes aptly and well timed as Isabel has lost her husband recently and has enormous debt to pay. She uproots her family to go, live in countryside.

But little did she know that the neighbors Matt McCarthy & his wife Laura has been looking after her old uncle Mr. P for past nine years in the hope of inheriting the house. Once she is there, she faces lots of challenges from the neighbors as well as she and her children have to make lifestyle adjustment from City style to country style.

The characters are well written and story flows swiftly. This was a 5 star read for me as Jojo writing style has evolved and matured a lot since writing this book. If you haven’t read this book yet, go get a copy of this new edition to find out what happens with Isabel. Does she give up the inherited house and move back to London or fight through the adversaries, and find true love to spend her life with?

Thank you #netgalley, #hodder paperbacks and #jojomeyes for a free copy of e-ARC in exchange of my honest review.

The Spanish House is inherited by a widow,. gifted violinist, Isabel,

Her arrival in the countryside opens a huge can of worms. There are others who understand that they

should have received the house.. Against a background of jealousy, greed and deceit, Isabel has a lot to contend

with. socially and financially.

As unpleasantness unfolds all around. she plays her violin at night., This is her salve.

A dark plot that does lighten along the way.

This is the first Jojo Moyes I read and I enjoyed it. Isabel's husband has died and she has just inherited a gorgeous but derelict mansion - the Spanish House - in the countryside, where she decides to move with her two kids before even seeing the house. The house is in much worse shape than she remembered but her dodgy neighbour Matt happens to be a builder and is happy to charge her a fortune to renovate the house. She doesn't know Matt has had his eyes on the house for ages - was hoping to inherit it after his lovely and docile wife Laura looked after the old man who owned it for years.

I found myself more interested in the secondary characters and the house itself than the main characters - Matt is, well, dodgy and is sleeping with half the village; his wife Laura is basically a doormat; and Isabel, oh Isabel! That was the worst character of them all: useless ("My husband used to do that for me" is her catchphrase), she almost never remembers she has kids, and I couldn't stand her whole bohemian-musician-clueless rich lady vibe. But I enjoyed the two kids - Kitty especially - poor Kitty, having to be the grown up of the family at 15 - and some of the villagers. But the house and how it went was really what kept me reading - the absurdity of the endless renovations, the idyllic setting by the woods and the lake, the threat of the walls that need to be fixed or pulled down or rebuilt every other day.. In a way it reminded me of older novels, of "Manon des Sources" (Marcel Pagnol) with the guy next door, seemingly a great neighbour, taking advantage of the clueless towny who just can't seem to guess what everyone else knows.

It was well-written and entertaining - I didn't care much for the ending but overall a very good read.

This was a really great book. It was an interesting look at a small community and the lives of those living there; I've always enjoyed books that focus on a small town or community as they really bring each character's personality to the fore and each character is explored in depth.

Laura McCarthy and her husband, Matt, dreamed of inheriting the Spanish House when old Mr Pottisworth died, having tended to him for years during his ill health. So when Pottisworth bequeaths his sprawling manor house to his absent niece, Isabel, the McCarthy's feel bitter and vengeful. Isabel, however, clings to the possibility of a new life in the country with her two children, having recently suffered the loss of her husband and with him, all their money. But life in Long Barton proves to be far from the tranquil idyll she was imagining, as the house is quite literally falling down around them. Matt steps in to help - but are his intentions really in Isabel's best interests?

This book really surprised me at every turn; it explored a lot about relationships, loyalty, and the difference between the version of someone we have in our minds and who they actually are. It's a brilliant story of love, family secrets, dealing with gossip, and moving on - shedding the past to fully embrace the future. The characters are all flawed in their own ways and dealing with their own troubles, but Moyes' writing makes you empathise with each of them even if you find them infuriating at the same time!

An early Moyes novel that I wasn't familiar with beforehand, but one I'm thoroughly pleased I got the opportunity to read. Would recommend to any Jojo Moyes fan who hasn't read this already!

Isobel and her 2 children move to a run down mansion she has inherited after she has been widowed. She has to give up her career as a violinist when doing this.
A slow moving story, but one that kept me hooked from the early pages.

Isabelle is a gifted violinist, and with a wonderful life - a husband she adores and 2 children she loves who are mostly looked after by him as she is often touring with the orchestra. However, when he dies, leaving a heap of debt, they find themselves having to move to a house deep in the countryside left to her by a distant relative. The children are not keen, to say the least, and the house hasn't been touched for years. A local builder seems to be the answer to their prayers but things aren't always what they seem.

A lovely, sweet story about loss, love, revenge and madness. I really enjoyed it.

I didn’t realise until I’d finished this book that this was an earlier book of JoJo Moyes. I have read all her others and really feel she has improved as a writer. I did enjoy this but compared to her others it is a little disappointing. Isabel and her children move to Spain after her husband dies. She moves to a house where all is not what it seems. A good read but like I said not as good as her most recent offerings.

Jojo Moyes will always be an auto-buy author for me. No matter what she writes, I will read and enjoy. Night Music may not have been a glowing five-start story for me, but it was worth picking up nonetheless.

This 2008 novel follows Isabel Delancey and her family. Isabel’s husband suddenly dies, leaving her with their two children, Kitty and Thierry, and a mountain of debt. The comfortable lifestyle she was once accustomed to is ripped away, and her only option is to move to the now-derelict countryside house named ‘The Spanish House’, left behind by her uncle. But her neighbours are bitter over her inheritance, her children are struggling, and her world seems to be crumbling.

I love the way the themes of love, bereavement, revenge and family life play out in this book. It’s a slow-burner, leaving plenty of time for character development within the plot. I particular like how the true motives of some characters are revealed through unseen twists. While I didn’t find any of the personalities to be that likeable, it doesn’t take away from the reading experience. And it’s definitely more of a drama than a romance, much different to anything else I’ve read by Jojo Moyes.

Fans of Moyes may enjoy this book, even if it doesn’t become a favourite. It has charm with the addition of small village life, and darker undertones from the villainous characters and realistic hardships. I wasn’t too fond of the ending, but overall a good read.

I love Jojo, was slightly disappointed when I realized it was a historical rather than a new release. Still loved it though.

I love all the books I have read by Jojo Moyes so far and was not disappointed when I got to read this re-edition of this 2008 book.
This is set in London and quite a contemporary piece. Isabel's life is turned upside down when her husband unexpectedly dies and she has to adjust her life.
This story has love, loss and secrets and I really enjoyed reading it.

Thanks for letting me read this, will post on Goodreads and my blog

Night Music has been on my TBR list for a while and I am happy that I got to read the newest edition! Every time I read a book written by Jojo Moyes, I am reminded how much I love her work! She has a knack for pulling the reader in right from the beginning and captivating the reader’s attention easily throughout the entire book. I found time flying by every time I picked the book up to read again, and I hated having to put it down. The characters were so easy to like and I was eager to continue reading to find out what would happen next, I felt connected to each one of them in one way or another, whether I liked them or not. Night Music was absolutely beautiful and I loved it.

I love JoJo Moyes. Although this is one of her historic releases, it’s just as good as her recent offerings.
The plot and characters drew me in quickly and although I read this book a few weeks ago, it’s still fresh in my head. It’s heartwarming and engaging.
I’d definitely recommend this one!
