Unfortunately I’ve lost my notes for my review of What My Husband Did and don’t have enough to give my usual review. But! I loved this, it’s fast paced, dark and kept me reading long into the night. Perfect for curling up with in your perfect chair in front of a roaring fire,

I did enjoy this book. Unfortunately, I got a bit lax at writing reviews over Christmas so now need to remember to review books shortly after reading them as it's hard to do them a few weeks afterwards. Would recommend.

Two things of significant importance have taken place: a 12-year-old girl was left for dead and a man is missing. There is an apparent connection, however, as a witness As this thrilling story is told from Maddy King's first person point of view it and the man that is missing is her husband Richard. Things begin unraveling for Maddy as time slowly passes and she wonders where Richard could possibly be, and whether or not he had anything to do with what happened to the child.

Maddy has something else on her mind, and that involves Richard's past. However, I do not want to include any spoilers in this review. Suffice it to say that things indeed proved to be murky, thus a shroud of guilt soon hover's above Richard's character. Will he show himself and prove his innocence? Could what is happening prove to the undoing of a previously quite happy relationship in his marriage to Maddy? Good questions these, and this intriguing story does a fine job of revealing things layer by layer, all while a little girl lingers near death.

This fine story by Kerry Wilkinson takes some sharp turns, even introducing at least one character with nefarious motives. Whether it is gossip, or facts, I enjoyed how this story was told. I love this twist and the ones that followed, thus making this book incredibly difficult to put down. And the ending!! What a shocker. What thrilled me so much about this book is the rabbit hole I fell into and I felt myself clawing to the top while trying to discover the truth. For the author to put me in that position I think was a job well done. If the story itself did not captivate me, then the ending most certainly did. All in all, this was a very good story and it makes me happy that I got a chance to read this book.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Wow this book was crafted so well, it hooked me from the start! Right away we meet Richard who offers twelve year old Alice a ride home. “Stranger Danger” comes to my mind and does Richard has ill intentions? Hours later Alice is found lying in a stream and Richard is missing. Madeline and Richard have been married five years, she was the student and he the lecturer. Madeline begins to put the pieces together and there’s secrets to be discovered! This is fast paced, very suspenseful with a bunch of well developed characters. I read this in one sitting, it’s unputdownable! Thank you to Bookouture, the author, and NetGalley for an ebook arc. This is my honest review.

I was expecting more of this book, but really it was very tame and boring. It so got on my nerves after a while all the talk about how to fit in with the village and being accepted etc. Having grown up in a smallish village, although living outside the village, I know how they can be but this was just so overdone and forever being repeated.
For the most part the plot was not really believable.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC in return for an honest review.

Another great psychological thriller from Kerry Wilkinson. He writes in such a way - giving just enough clues to make you think you know what's going on but then the twists start coming. This book was fast paced and tense throughout.
Thanks to publishers Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing an advance copy of the book;

A gripping read overall with some unexpected twists and turns.

A few unlikable characters and the main character was quite stoic for me but overall a good read. I’ll definitely try some more by this author.

Thanks to NetGalley for my review copy.

A chilling prelude as a man asks a little girl to get into his car. She is reluctant, but does anyway. She is later found face down in the river and the man disappears. The wife is left face the suspicions of the shallow and gossipy neighbours as well as the police investigation that follows.

Told in the first person by the man's wife, she uncovers secrets about her husband and other things she didn't know about him. The situation reminds of her of her own situation when she was the same age as the girl found in the river. Then the man under suspicion of a terrible crime was her father. As she tries to find her husband she gets to know the villagers better and discovers that some of them aren't as superficial as they appear. Or as nice.

This is an engaging story that increases in tension. It is about assumptions and injustice, and the tragedy they leave in their wake. Recommended.

I really enjoy thrillers and in reading the synopsis of this book, I was immediately drawn in. In the very beginning of the book you know something happened to a young girl and you really want to figure out what. I enjoyed the writing style and the length of the chapters but the story seemed to move at a slow pace. A lot happened in the last 20% of the book and that was great! But, the lead up seemed to be drawn out so the ending felt rushed in a way. I wonder if some of the clues dropped at the end of the book could have been placed more evenly throughout the story to help pique my interest longer.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for letting me read this book prior to its publication. My opinion is 100% honest, unbiased, and my own.

This book started in a way that made me think, “Wait a minute… is this a major spoiler?” And for a few pages I was utterly shocked. Thankfully, I was wrong. I see what the author tried to do there, but I feel that device should have been exploited in a more exhaustive way to make the revelations along the story even more shocking than what they were. I guess what I am trying to say is that this book was one of those deceptively predictable stories whose ending sneaks up on you and you don’t see it coming.

The development of the characters was good, although sometimes it was difficult for me to understand that Gemma character. Her actions were a bit over the top, even given the circumstances, and her way of dealing with the situation was a bit too chaotic and out of character for what she was going through.

I really liked the setting, though. I think the fact the story takes place in such a small village gives it an entirely different dimension. The number of suspects is limited and made me think of the way Agatha Christie plotted her novels. And no, I’m not comparing this book with Agatha Christie’s novels; just comparing the limited number of suspects for the case. Because of the small town element, the story felt more oppressive and claustrophobic, adding to the psychological aspect of this book.

Overall, a good story with a good pace. Really enjoyable if you are looking for a psychological thriller set in a small town. The only reason I don’t give it four stars is because the beginning was a bit confusing for me.

A heart-stopping domestic drama packed with chills, shocks and jaw-dropping twists and turns, Kerry Wilkinson’s latest page-turner What My Husband Did is a top-notch thriller from a master storyteller.

Mandy and Richard seem like the perfect couple. Sure, there might be a bit of an age gap between the two of them, but Richard worships the ground Mandy walks on. He loves her with every fibre of his being, treats her teenage daughter like his own and has bought her a beautiful house in the village he grew up in. Mandy has never felt so loved and cherished in her entire life. There might have been a bit of gossip when they first got together about the tragic death of his first wife, but Richard is such a pillar of the community that he still gets sympathetic looks from the entire village. Nothing could spoil their happiness, until the night their perfect life is changed forever by circumstances nobody could have foreseen…

It’s another ordinary evening. Mandy thinks that Richard will be waiting for her by the fire with a great big smile on his face, but she begins to get uneasy as the clock ticks ever so slowly by and there is still no sign of her husband. What has happened to him? Mandy cannot help but worry about him and her worst fears are confirmed where she gets a knock at the door: twelve year old Alice has been found unconscious in a field behind their house and she was last seen getting into Richard’s car. Meanwhile, her husband seems to have vanished off the face of the earth without a trace. Where is Richard? Could he be connected to Alice’s accident? And why hasn’t he made contact with his beloved wife? Something is not right here and Mandy is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery.

The entire village is giving her the cold shoulder and malicious gossip is spreading like wildfire. Nobody has a good word to say about Richard and the rumour mill is getting to Mandy. With everyone speculating that Richard has something to do with Alice’s accident, Mandy begins to wonder whether everybody is right to be suspicious of her husband. After all, if he was innocent, he wouldn’t have disappeared, would he? Secrets from Mandy’s past might help shed light on his whereabouts and his innocence, but they could also destroy the fragile fabric of her new life.

Will Mandy ever discover where Richard is and whether he was responsible for Alice’s accident? And is she prepared for what she is about to find?

A compulsively readable thriller that is tense, shocking and nail-biting, What My Husband Did is a deftly crafted tale of guilt, deception, secrets and lies guaranteed to chill readers to the bone and keep them absorbed from start to finish. What My Husband Did is a masterclass in psychological suspense as readers will find themselves completely gripped by this nerve-twisting tale that will keep them on the edge of their seats throughout.

Gripping, terrifying and impossible to put down, Kerry Wilkinson’s What My Husband is another must-read by this very gifted thriller writer.

Almost impossible to put down. The book is totally captivating and riveting.

I loved this author’s previous book, and I jumped at the chance to read and review this one.

It starts with an arresting prologue, and catapults us straight into the story. I was pretty sure that I knew what had happened to Alice, but the super-twisty plot has a lot of surprises in store.

Maddy and Richard have a strong marriage, but it seems that he’s been keeping secrets from her. With Richard missing, it doesn’t look good, and like most small villages, rumours and talk abound.

This atmospheric and gripping thriller had me totally riveted. It’s the sort of book that will just keep you turning the pages, as the plot deepens.

The pace is fast, and the plot is tense and twisty. I absolutely did not see the ending coming at all.

Be warned, you will not be able to put this book down as the ending approaches! Totally gripping and suspenseful.
