This book had me gripped, it was set in a small quiet village where everyone knows everyone’s business and there were lots of twists and turns the last few chapters were fast moving and exciting!

What I Liked:
▪️ This book takes place in a small town in the UK with plenty of small town drama between the residents. I loved this angle!
▪️ Lots of twists and suspense that shocked me. I didn’t see a lot of it coming! Sometimes with thrillers you can anticipate what will happen, or even figure out the ending in advance, but I definitely didn’t with this one!!
▪️ I read this within two days! I couldn’t put it down as I needed to know how the book ended. I needed to know what happened!!
▪️ Lots of suspicious characters that you start questioning and wondering if they’re as genuine as they appear.

What I Didn’t Like…
▪️ The very last chapter. It felt misplaced and unnecessary to the story. There is a secondary story line that takes place and flashbacks to the main character, Maddy’s, past with her father. The entire backstory left me feeling confused and unsure how exactly it tied in with the main story.
▪️ At times the writing felt too wordy and I found myself skipping through sections.

While I didn’t love the last chapter, I still really enjoyed this book! I definitely would recommend it to others.

How have I not read this author before? This book was sooo good!

Like Maddy, you'll find yourself going back and forth - has her husband Richard done what the small village gossip says he did? Is it based on speculation and not on any real evidence? But if Richard is innocent, where is he?

Throughout the story, there are parallels to Maddy's dad, who was presumably falsely accused and imprisoned for part of her youth. While the chapters related to Maddy's dad felt like an interruption, I can see how they played into the plot and set us up as to what happens to her husband.

I loved this book for its great characterization, tight storyline, and suspenseful twists and turns!

This is a story that will have you question how well you know the person you married. In Maddy's case, she has only been married to Richard for three years, so how well does she know him in that time? I wasn't sure how I would react if I was in the same position as her. A young girl left for dead and the last person that she was seen with is your husband and now he's gone missing? It all seems so straight forward but is it?

It's definitely a hard one to get your head around. Maddy not only questions her relationship with her husband but also with the people in the small village. Being only small it is rife with gossip and I didn't envy Maddy having to face these people who were only to quick believe that Richard is guilty.

What My Husband Did will give you food for thought at how quick we are to judge people. Present day was fraught with tension and mystery. We also get chapters in the past of Maddy's childhood which made for some heart breaking reading. I was gripped throughout and loved the pacing which made it a great page turner. A story that wholly consumes it's reader and doesn't let go until the very last word.

Wow this author is just fab, delivering book after book. And this one- just amazing! Gripping from start to finish, packed with twist after twist, this was an addictive, stunning, rollercoaster of a story. One of my favourite reads this year!

This was a very good read. Lots of twists and turns and red herrings. Told in a dual timeline it was interesting to see it from a child's perspective and then as an adult. Haven't read this author before but will be keeping an eye out for more.

What my husband did is narrated mainly through the eyes of Maddy and it follows her dual timeline. The timeline switches between Maddy’s adult life in Leavensfield and her childhood. Near the end of the book the narrator switches to Richard and we are given insight into his timeline.

I found Maddy to be annoying at times because she seemed to care more about what was happening with her husband instead the little girl Alice. I loved watching as Maddy’s past came full circle and managed to weave its way into the present which added many twists to the story.

I thought there would have been more anger from the people in town but I felt like it fizzled out. This was an interesting book and I liked how it ended.

I’m a big fan of Kerry Wilkinson. (You can read my reviews of The Wife's Secret, After the Accident (probably still my favorite), and The Child Across the Street. I’m pleased to say that the author is in fine form in this book.
As with other “psychological thrillers with a twist” stories, I’m not going to give any of the twists away here – you can read blurbs and spoilers elsewhere. But I am going to tell you what worked in this book.
The prologue gives the reader enough of a hint that something might be off in the interactions between two characters. It’s obvious that something isn’t quite right, and the author wisely leaves it to the reader’s own assumptions to try to figure out what is going on.
This continues throughout the book. There are several points where the author merely throws out a suggestion – sometimes in the form of an incident, sometimes a thought of a character – and lets the reader take it however they choose.
I love it when an author values the reader’s intelligence this way. Are they vital pieces of info or are they red herrings? Who knows...that's the fun of it.
I totally felt for Maddy throughout the story. She had these events thrust upon her and had to deal with the brunt of everything even as she had no idea what was really going on. I liked her character, because her reactions seemed very natural. I could see myself reacting much in the same manner.
I also like how the author used past events to give us hints as to Maddy’s perspective and reasons for her reactions. It was cleverly done and very illuminating. I’ll not say more than that. The author also captures small-town life, and the personalities that emerge in small towns, perfectly.
Even as the truth finally comes out about…well, everything…she is still unsure about what steps she will take next. I also liked this about her (and about the story) because it was realistic. Not everything is wrapped up neatly. I admire the author’s willingness to leave things a little unfinished.
One picky thing. The cover should have had a red coat. ‘Nuff said.
This is another strong entry from this author. I’m getting used to them and look forward to the next one.

I do love Kerry Wilkinson’s books and this one is no exception.
This one had me hooked from the first few pages.
Alice gets in a car one evening and is found later with a head injury in the stream. She’s taken to hospital, but is in a coma.
The next day Maddy is worried as her husband Richard has not come home. The Police then arrive asking where he is.
It seems he was seen giving Alice a lift in his car and now he’s nowhere to be found.
Maddy is shocked as this is so out of character for her husband, but the rest of the village have him down as being guilty already.
Soon the whole village is rallying around Alice’s mum, Gemma, and Maddy is made to feel like a pariah.
Harriet is organising a winter ball to raise funds for Alice and its here that the truth starts to come out.
I didn’t see the ending coming at all and think I was holding my breath for a few pages.
This is a great psychological thriller that really pulls you in to the story.

This was such a good read! Simple but so effective!! Told in 2 time frames - Maddie is one of the first on the scene when a little girl is found in a ditch near her house.! This is bad enough but now her husband Richard is missing and it turns out he was the last person to be seen with the little girl! The other part of the story centres around Maddie and her dad. The stories tie in really neatly and the clues and red herrings just add to the chill!
This was. Terrific read!

Kerry Wilkinson knows how to write a great thriller and this is no exception. I found myself going back and forth between liking Madeline and wondering how reliable she was as a narrator. I didn't see the conclusion to the mystery coming. I also didn't expect that last chapter! It's a good conclusion that leaves you questioning.

I was given a chance through Net Gallery to review this book. For the most part, I thought it was a kind of blah book. It was interesting, I plodded through it. But it did not in any way grab my attention from the start. I did not feel the need to carry it with me every where I went in case I had a chance to read a few senences. The last few chapters, of course, were better, when the twist was revealed and some of the answers as to what had actually happened with Richard and Alice. It did do a pretty good job at describing life in a small village and the way rumors can effect and harm families.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and will certainly reach for another.

Maddie isn't the biggest fan of life in a small village one of the problems is everyone knows everyone else's business. So when she returns home one night and discovers two things, first that a little girl has been found face down in the river and secondly that her husband Richard is missing its soon spread around the village faster than wildfire and the rumours have started. Maddie, now a social pariah is desperate to find out what happened. Richard has his faults but could he really be a child killer?

This book was fast paced and tense throughout, like all of Kerry's standalone thrillers that I've read. I liked Maddie's character, she made a good, honest narrator and I loved her attitude towards the other villagers who were so stuck up and rude and obsessed with their own petty dramas. The storyline kept me hooked and I finished this book in only a few hours and really enjoyed it.

WOW! I was not expecting that, and I definitely did not see it coming! What a mind-blowing and jaw-dropping surprise! Kerry Wilkinson keeps you hanging on to every word and delivers the most unexpected twists in What My Husband Did! My mind was swirling with possibilities but my guesses were not even close...Kerry Wilkinson certainly shocked me! With an ending that is guaranteed to catch you off guard, What My Husband Did is the ultimate definition of a twisted and suspenseful thriller! This was the first book I have read by Kerry Wilkinson, and I loved What My Husband Did so much that I’m a big fan now! The ending left me speechless! What My Husband Did is one of those irresistible books that’s easy to read, impossible to put down, and hooks your attention from the very beginning. There were several times when I thought “OMGosh...what did I just read?!?!” I loved the emotional intensity, character development, plot and dark and twisty surprises. Kerry Wilkinson certainly knows how to capture readers’ attention and mystify her audience! Prepare to have your mind blown!

Maddy (short for Madeleine) was concerned when her husband, Richard, didn't come home, but that worry quickly turned into terror when the body of a little girl (Alice) was found in a river near their house. Barely breathing, Alice had been severely injured and left to die. It didn’t take long for it to become public knowledge that the last time Alice was seen was when she was with Richard in his car. Maddy began to question everything she had ever known about her husband. Did he know Alice? Why was she in his car? Where was he and why hadn’t he come home? Was there any truth behind the gossip surrounding his first wife’s death? She also started to question her marriage to him after hearing other people comment about his past. As members of the town come together to help Alice’s mother, they also start to blame Maddy. Surely she must know something about her husband’s whereabouts and actions! When Richard finally begins to secretly contact her, she’s relieved to know that he’s ok, but his refusal to answer any questions or come home is maddening.

Although I loved the story and really enjoyed how Kerry Wilkinson included pieces of Maddy’s past as a child and teenager, I’ll admit that I felt somewhat conflicted by the conclusion. I felt a mixture of emotions because on the one hand it was unbelievably phenomenal...but on the other hand it wasn’t the picture perfect ending that I personally hoped for. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t a great book though and I’d still recommend it to others. Be sure to be on the lookout for What My Husband Did, by Kerry Wilkinson, because it is has everything you would want and more from a powerful, thrilling and suspenseful story!

I became totally immersed in this read. Real life stopped and I lived the next 6 hours or so in the village of Leavensfield where Maddy lives with Richard until the terrible events play out, starting on the forecourt of Fuel's Gold, the village's petrol station with a girl in a red coat and ending in a shed...
The opening is brilliant, especially when it is returned to near the end of the book.
The way this psychological thriller is written challenges our perception and those initial impressions we form.
I was merrily led up and down several garden paths, sometimes trying to turn around, other times following blindly and every single time with a question mind lurking at the back of my mind and in the periphery of my vision.
The book does dip in and out of time, but only periodically, and always to Maddy's childhood from when she was 12-16 years of age. These interludes add an emotional depth and are harrowing. They are also necessary to make the reader question the evidence, to look beyond what is obvious and to query just how far beyond what appears to be the truth you might be prepared to look.
Definitely a book to read with pleasure, with all the tension you want from a thriller and more.
I am becoming a real fan of Kerry Wilkinson's books! Maybe you are one already? If so, DON'T miss out on What My Husband Did, and if you aren't already a follower of his fiction, this might just be the start of a wonderful new book relationship for the voracious reader!

What My Husband Did by Kerry Wilkinson starts off a little differently than most murder mysteries. A twelve year-old girl is found barely alive in a stream on a cold, wintery night. She was last seen getting into a man's car outside a gas station in a quaint little village town where everyone is in the middle of everyone else's business. The protagonist, Maddy, is more than a little concerned when her husband is revealed to be the driver of the mystery car. She's sure her husband can offer a reasonable explanation that would quiet the unsettling rumors that are beginning to spread, but there's only one problem- he never returned home. This only fuels the gossip and suspicion surrounding her husband's involvement in the terrible crime. The title and first chapter alone do a pretty convincing job of pointing the finger at Maddy's husband, but as all good detectives know, small towns are good at keeping big secrets.
I wasn't sure if I was going to be into this story after reading the first few chapters, but somewhere around 25% in, I was hooked. Maddy is a strong character and I appreciated that she wasn't portrayed as some naive, devoted housewife who refuses to believe her husband might be capable of keeping secrets from her. Her reactions came across as authentic and I was very much rooting for her. There were many suspenseful moments and suspicious characters that kept me on high alert. Several of the townspeople have prominent roles in the story and I enjoyed learning their backstories in addition to Maddy's. The small town setting and cliquey women reminded me a lot of the characters in Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty.

While the characterization in the novel was excellent, there were some issues with the plot that kept me from being able to rate this book higher. There's a secondary storyline within the novel that flashbacks to show Maddy's relationship with her father who was imprisoned for a violent crime. While at first this backstory added to the intrigue of the story, it ended up feeling like an unnecessary addition. It didn't end up affecting Maddy much in the present-day, or at least not to the level one would expect, so I'm confused as to why it was even included. The novel ends in a flashback with what was clearly meant to be a shocking twist, but it just left me confused. To avoid spoiling anything, I can't go into too much detail, but the last chapter felt misplaced. To have any kind of impact on the reader, it needed to have had a larger impact on Maddy. Had this "reveal" been earlier on in the novel, the author could have given herself time to show how Maddy was left damaged from that piece of her past. Instead, it just feels like it was slapped onto the end as a way of throwing one more surprise at the reader.

If you enjoy mysteries with authentic characters in an intimate setting, you will probably enjoy this book. There was plenty of suspense and twists that I didn't see coming, but the ending was disappointing.
