I wish I could say I could recommend this book this year, as it was enjoyable and while I thoroughly enjoy Gudetama's presence. In a year like this, it's hard to recommend a dose of more pessimism to people. This book left me wanting to "get back to normal" even as someone who doesn't enjoy the holiday.

But once we get back to that type of place, where we are less worried about a pandemic and more worried about our in-laws showing up at our door un-invited, I would definitely recommend this book for many smiles and at least a couple of good laughs.

I perused this book with my expectant 10 year old daughter who absolutely adores any and all things Gudetama! Unfortunately she and I were both in disappointed agreement... this book was disjointed, boring and we couldn't bring ourselves to even see it through to the end.

Gudetama is the ‘lazy egg’ that completely depicts the mood, and is quite easy to feel represented one way or another. As the name suggests, it’s focused on what Christmas is like: the fun parts, the obnoxious ones and it even gives hope for the New Year to come –let’s face it, 2020 hasn’t been a good year at all but we cannot stay in that mindset.

Despite being so short, it’s really entertaining to read and it’s the perfect gift for someone who loves Gudetama or who might be interested in an accurate representation of what an adult feels like in these days.

I liked the simple art style and I’ve always been curious of Gudetama, and after this one, I’ll be sure to pick up the other books from the author.

I'm a HUGE Gudetama fan. (Probably because I can empathise with a lot of the "Eh, I don't want to, its so tiresome, can we not?" I wasn't sure what to expect from the graphic novel. Certainly didn't expect Gudetama to take on the role of Agony Aunt (and so well! Gudetama offers great life advice.)
This consists of a series of heartfelt stories. The art is quite colourful (a WEE bit overwhelming if I were to be completely honest) but in line with the theme and the characters. I wouldn't expect a Sanrio character based graphic novel to contain muted shades!
This is a lighthearted read with some laughs and lots of cuteness. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an easy, light read.

If your a fan of Sanrio characters (ESPECIALLY Gudetama) You will HIGHLY enjoy reading this fully colored comic about the advice the lazy depressed egg has for everyone during the holiday season! Some advice was thoughtful and can acutally be used (ie what to do when you have sensory overload) other advice was absolutely chaotic!

That being said, I almost wished it was longer and held more plot. This is geared towards children or hardcore fans of Gudetama.

Thank you to netgalley & the publisher for this eARC of Gudetama. This little lethargic & apathetic egg is so random, he’s amazing. There were nice interactions among characters, and Gudetama is adorable.

Everyone's favorite lazy egg gives advice in response to everyone else's holiday-themed problems. The advice ranges from good (set goals for the new year that are attainable and don't measure yourself against others!) to questionable (if you have a co-worker you don't like but need to buy something for, buy them something or donate something in their name!), but the scenarios are always at least amusing. The art is cute too, and the colors are nice and bright. Each scenario is easy to follow.
Overall, cute and festive, but may or may not be helpful for surviving the holidays.

I love the little Gudetama character, so I was hoping this would be really adorable and funny, but instead I was just bored. :(

I knew Guatemala from the memes, but I've never read or seen anywork with him before. This was a cute and warm surprise!
The artwork is very colorful and simple, and the only downside I really have to point out is that the stories are pretty short. Still, it's enough to make anyone smile!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Oni Press for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review!

I love the character of Gudetama. When asked what he is thankful for, he replies "I’m very
thankful for naps, sleep, good naps, and not being bothered." This very much sums Gudetama's goals in life. However in this graphic novel he is like the dear Abby of an advice column dispensing advice on things like what to get for your colleagues as their secret Santa: a gift card or if you hate them plant a tree in their name. How to deal with sensory overload during the holidays. How to play board games with an extremely competitive family during the holidays. The art is bright and cute, charming and suits the tone of the book. Loved every second, I only wished it was a little bit longer.

I was not very familiar with Gudetama, the lazy egg, before reading this graphic novel, but now it will be on my radar for sure. This graphic novel was a very quick read, humorous, sweet, and entertaining. It is set around the fall/winter holidays and is made up of different vignettes, where characters dealing with holiday-specific problems like finding the right gift, or dealing with family drama ask Gudetama for advice.

I enjoyed the art of the graphic novel as well, especially the bright colors which paired well with the humorous nature of the read. I’m sure I would have gotten a lot more from reading it were I a fan of the show and characters already, but I was still entertained nonetheless. Fans of the characters/show will probably enjoy this graphic novel, but I would still recommend it to people not familiar with the show because everyone, regardless of what holidays they celebrate, can relate to at least one or two of the humorous situations here and get a chuckle out of it Thank you to NetGalley and Oni Press for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

fun little stories all about the wonders and struggles of christmas time. I especially enjoyed the inclusion of different religions and celebrations! This would be a great christmas gift recommendation.

A pretty packed collection of mini-comics (comicettes???? is that a word????) with an enticing art style that pops off the page. It's not too cluttered, which I love. The stories range from the mundane to the mystical, all with an undercurrent emphasising what Christmas is all about. It's fine in that regard, I think kids would like it more than adults, even adult fans of this lil egg. I would love it if Gudetama was even lazier and uncontrollably groaned as he raises his head from his bed white (get it?).

I really enjoyed this little set of short comics. I can’t say I love the colour scheme but I do love how cute gudetama is and how he provides little real nuggets of advice which apply to the real world in a fun format.

It’s cute and funny though not something j would read every day, a little lighthearted cuteness for everyone really.

Gudetama: Surviving the Holidays is a very realistic guide on surviving the holiday rush.
The book contains a few short comics that look at different aspects of the what makes the holidays hard for people - from deciding on a gift to handing your family. All were quite relatable and fun. The art is also quite nice.
I definitely recommend the book, no matter which holidays you celebrate.

This was a cute, fast read! It was humorous at times (especially when it comes to family), but also thoughtful in the sense that it really did give some cleverly pointed reminders to take care of ourselves during/around the holidays. I feel some of those reminders are ones we hear so often that we sort of tune them out (like stressing over that "perfect" gift) and ignore them. With the holidays right around the corner, I would say this is a very timely read to NOT tune those things out.

I enjoyed this and would recommend it to those who are not as excited for the holidays for a variety of reasons and need a little cheering up or a reminder that the holidays don't have to be as stressful and/or lonely.
