Lisa Regan has the magic to create a book that is easy to read and full of twist and turns that keeps you guessing.
Expect to lose some sleep over this one.
How does a champion swimmer manage to drown?
Why has a decorated retired firemen set his house on fire with his grandchildren in the house?
We have multiple suspects but why and how. As the body count goes up Josie is struggling with a feeling of helplessness in the job and concerns about her relationship with Noah.
The conclusion comes as a big surprise even if there are some hints along the way to get you thinking in that direction.

Breathe Your Last by Lisa Regan is the 10th instalment in the series of Detective Josie Quinn. I have previously reas some of this series but not from book 1 or in order. This is a book you can read as a standalone too, very easily. In this book, Josie discovers a deady body in the swimming pool when she visits her brother at work on the campus of the local college. The discovery of the body may be a shock but to discover it is a championship swimmer is even worse! Some people are prepared to put it down to a bizarre accident, but not Josie. The struggle comes when she needs concrete evidence to prove her theory. We again, see her team behind her every step of the way no matter what. Josie as a detective always follows her instincts and she is hardly ever wrong as she toils to get the result she needs, her determination and grit is open for all to see. This woman is one hell of a detective! A brilliant one at that!
A perfectly-paced book that was very hard to leave for any amount of time. Another excellent Josie Quinn book to add to the pile, as exhilerating as the others I have read as well.
Thank you to Lisa Regan, Bookouture and NetGalley for the copy of the book to give you my thoughts today.

The 10th book in the Josie Quinn series and, as anticipated, this did not disappoint.

This tale had plenty of twists to keep your interest however the aspect I enjoyed the most was the ongoing storyline of Josie and her team.

This was a rollercoaster of a book and already I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

4.5 stars

Arriving at the swim centre of the Denton University campus, Detective Josie Quinn didn’t expect to come across the best swimmer in the team, face down in the pool. Her efforts to resuscitate her futile. Josie had arrived on her way to work to see Patrick, her brother before he began work at the campus. Before long the swim centre was surrounded by police and all the teams necessary to work out what had happened.

The young woman’s death was the beginning of a horrific spate of murders which seemingly had no origin; there was nothing showing in bloods, in autopsies – the frustration of Josie, Noah, Gretchen, Mett and the team caused their bodies to run on adrenalin with little sleep and not many answers. But it was to get worse. Who was doing these dreadful things? And the biggest question – how were they doing it? Could Josie find the answers before it was too late?

Breathe Your Last is the 10th in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan and oh my goodness! I will have to say, in my opinion, this is her best yet! What a heart stopping read it was. I flew through the pages in a matter of hours, unable to put the book down. Twists and turns, incredible imagery, exasperation, thrills and chills – this book had it all. Josie is a tough, resilient character and her determination not to give up was sorely tested in Breathe Your Last. Highly recommended.

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

I am delighted to be catching up with the latest happenings in this great series featuring Detective Josie Quinn, written by Lisa Regan.

In this tenth instalment, Josie is on her way to see her brother at Denton Uni, Pennsylvania when she spots a female student floating lifelessly, face down in the campus swimming pool. Her brother Patrick is an assistant at the pool and the girl is champion swimming starlet, Nysa Summers. Josie and her team start to chew over the clues and to sift through the hours leading up to Nysa’s death, beginning with finding her missing backpack. The next day, a terrible housefire envelops the nearby home of a retired fireman, nearly killing his two granddaughters. As the body count continues to rise, Josie is convinced that the contents of the backpack provide the much-needed links they are searching for...

Although I dived into this series at book nine, there was enough backstory to really enjoy this novel, Breathe Your Last. It was a captivating, briskly-paced police procedural with more than enough action taking place to retain my interest. Once hooked, I was glued to the pages and it was a rollercoaster ride of surprises. With its stylish and tense plot, the story was told mostly from Josie’s perspective, though there were sporadic chapters from the unidentified killer’s point of view. The story effortlessly flowed and there was never a dull moment as the plot beelined for the heart-pounding finale. Josie made a tough, determined and admirable protagonist and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with her. Breathe Your Last contains drama, suspense and tension by the shedload and I highly recommend this immersive novel. I am eagerly anticipating what Lisa Regan has in store for Josie Quinn next!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

One helluva ride. This is one book you won’t be able to put down. Lisa Regan does it again! This fabulous book bring back beloved characters Josie Quinn and Noah Fraley. These characters are so well developed they feel like family, each book is like catching up with beloved family members. This book was suspenseful and eerie and kept me guessing till the very end. Filled with twists and turns that take you through a rollercoaster of emotions. My heart was pounding and didn’t stop till I turned the last page.
Easily 5 star quality. This is a must read

Breathe Your Last by Lisa Regan is the tenth in the Josie Quinn series which is a crime thriller series featuring Detective Josie Quinn. Josie is a police detective who has been damaged by life and by her job. She lost her husband, but not before he fathered a child with another woman. A child Josie is now helping to raise. She lives with another police detective, Noah Fraley, and at this point had a pretty good life. She had stopped drinking although she refused counseling. Her brother Patrick had come over and done some laundry at her house and accidentally left his work t-shirt there. She was meeting him to deliver it at the pool where he worked when she saw a body in the pool. She jumped in to drag it out, did CPR on the young woman until the EMTs arrived and pronounced her dead. It was odd. She was a championship swimmer yet she drowned on a pool while fully clothed. This simple act sent the Denton PD off on a chase like they had never seen before.

Josie is a good character. She is far from perfect, but she has people who love her and take care of her, when she lets them. The most important of those is Noah, of course, although he has been behaving oddly lately. This is a frightening novel, mostly because of the potential if even part of it is true. People die; others almost die. Josie's life will never be the same. It was truly a gripping novel and all too real. The interactions between people are well-written and compelling. The height of mental illness and the havoc it can wreak is beyond words. All contained in this book. I recommend it.

Breathe Your Last by Lisa Regan is the 10th book in the Detective Josie Quinn mystery series, and another great addition. Wow this book grabbed me from the very first page, and kept me going. This book has more twists and turns, that kept me reading page after page. Just when I thought I was on the right track, I realize I wasn't. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. If you love mysteries like I do, than I strongly recommend this book/ series. I have read every book in this series, Ms. Regan has me hooked.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is the tenth in the Detective Josie Quinn series; it is the third one I have read. I enjoy Josie; despite all the travails she has met with in her life, she remains a strong, intelligent, though vulnerable, character.

I also enjoy Lisa Regan’s writing. Fast paced, engrossing and If the plot is indeed plausible (I didn’t check!), it is very, very scary.

Having read some of the prior novels in this series, I enjoyed revisiting with the repeating characters. Yet, this would work well as a stand alone. However, since so many of us have time on our hands these days, why not go back and start the series from the beginning?

If you like police procedurals/thrillers, and are not familiar with Lisa Regan, I would recommend her.

Lisa Regan are you trying to kill me! OMG I have just been on the biggest rollercoaster reading this book. I'm not even sure where to start with this review.

Josie is as ever kick ass! Josie is gutsy, she follows her instincts and she's very rarely wrong. Josie knew that there was a case when Nysa drowned herself but no one else thought so. Being the typical Josie she pushed and dug until she proved her point. The problem was the evidence. This case really got under my skin. It was something new and you know most other detectives wouldn't have even thought there was a case there.

Josie's team as ever were there for her backing her up all the way. Each character has developed so much over the 10 books in this series. You do not need to have read them all to enjoy this book but if you have then you will have much stronger feels on what Lisa makes her characters go through in this book.

The book was very fast-paced and difficult to put down. Lisa had me on the edge for the whole book. From the first chapter to the very last I was engaged and enthralled by the story. I can't wait for more!

As always thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book and for letting me take part in this tour

I know I am a broken record but this is by far the best one in the series. It was a chilling, so chilling and intense ride, and a story where tears leaked.

For me, the backstory of the person doing the heinous crime didn’t interest me. This was because the way these awful acts were carried out, was so inventive but so chilling, it was the forefront of the whole book. I was fascinated with how the events unfurled. I was gazumped with how these people were dying and behaving the way they were.

This is definitely going to be a book that goes in my top books for the year. I was so worried about Josie and the team, the family, no one was safe. Breath Your Last packed such a punch, I need a break from reading. My emotions are all over the place, Lisa has created a unit you care about and bloody worry about and here it’s no different. My jaw was dropping and I was completely fearful for the everyone involved. It is hard to explain why without spoiling it. But what I will say, if someone can harm you, without anyone suspecting anything, at any time, how can it not be terrifying.

The title of this book has way too many meaning that I really don’t want to explore. On reflection, its chilling but its perfect and its a sign of things to come.

With one of Lisa’s books, you just can’t get enough of her storytelling nor Denton and the world she is building there. Each book we discover a new area, we meet new well-crafted characters, she adds new layers of fear and man these killers are not ones you want to cross paths with. Do we dare delve in Lisa’s dark dark mind?

Things are never as they seem, initial thoughts are never quite right and always expected the unexpected. I am never disappointed when I read a Josie Quinn book, there is always action, thrills and death-defying rescues, but maybe nothing too elaborate next time? Just a thought.

My review in one sentence: I read this book in 24 hours.

But in case that was insufficient to tell you how amazing I thought the book was, let me expound.

Josie Quinn didn't expect to find a dead body in the swimming pool when she went to see her brother at his job on the campus of the local college. But find one she did, and unexpectedly, it's a championship swimmer. Drowned. How does that happen? Others might want to rule it a bizarre and unexpected accident, but Josie doesn't think so. The problem is proving her theory that foul play was involved. But when other seemingly unexplainable incidents start happening, Josie knows she's got to get to the bottom of things.

Josie is a likable character - a tough, dedicated detective who's trying to learn how to let others get close to her. She's good at her job and when she thinks she's right, she doesn't back down. She isn't such a hardnose that she lacks empathy for the people she's trying to help, but she will push to get the information she needs.

But we don't see the story unfold only from Josie's point of view. The killer's thoughts are interspersed throughout the book, too. I found those little tidbits to be absolutely fascinating. And even with insights into what was on the killer's mind, I didn't see the big reveal coming until it hit me upside the head. I'd think, okay, I've got it figured out, and then there was a sudden shift, and I found myself right back in the dark. Well done, Ms. Regan. Well done!

This was the first of Lisa Regan's Josie Quinn series that I've read. I got enough backstory to follow along with no problems, but now I've got to go read books one through nine to catch up!

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advance reader copy. All opinions here are mine, and I don't say nice things about books I don't actually like.

Breathe Your Last is the latest Josie Quinn book. I’m really drawn to this series. Josie is a no nonsense police detective. And Lisa Regan writes Josie with balance in her home life, family, friends, and work. I really connect with Josie and her team. And while Josie isn’t perfect, you root for her. From book to book you get to watch Josie grow and evolve.

While there is always a little storyline floating from book to book, in this one Josie and her team are investigating why the top swimmer at the local university has drowned. Hitting a dead end with little evidence, other strange things start to happen. This book is both suspenseful and thrilling. I am not easily fooled and I was guessing up to the end. And to take this up a notch, there are chapters told from the killer’s point of view. You get a chill reading their words. You didn’t think I’d slip and spoil it did you?

As with this genre you get action, thrills and twists in addition to connecting with Josie and the group of family and friends that surround her.

I always look forward to a new installment and I know no matter my reading mood, I know I’ll enjoy the book. I highly recommend this for anyone who likes a good mystery.

This is a superb police crime thriller story in the Detective Josie Quinn series, a series I can't recommend highly enough to anyone who enjoys this genre. It is a fascinating read in which there are a sequence of seemingly unconnected but strange events in which people die or are seriously injured. . . . a championship swimmer drowns, a retired fireman sets his home alight even though he and his grand children are inside it . . .just what is the connection? As Josie strives to discover the links and determine just who is causing it, she also has concerns over just what her partner is up to and why is he avoiding her? As more danger threatens, cover ups and secrets are slowly revealed but can she help stop any more people dying at the hands of the perpetrator(s)(?) and keep herself and those she loves safe?

This is another fascinating read, a real page turner, which skilfully blends the investigation with Josie's daily life, family and romance. You just have to love Harris, he's such a delightful four year old and even copes with all the 'training' Josie gives him to keep him safe! The tension escalates as the story proceeds, with plenty of clues, misdirection, drama and mystery. I'd never heard of the horrendous cause of all the mystery but I'm not revealing it here, either, and was amazed to discover it really exists. This is a superb read with great characters, full of twists and turns and has whet my appetite to want to read more by this highly talented author. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for my copy of this book which I have voluntarily read and honestly reviewed.

Book 10 and still going strong! I've read this series from Book 1, still fresh and engaging. Solid mystery with a few surprises in store, keeps you turning the pages until you get there. Characters are well developed to the point I almost feel like I know them - but if you haven't read any prior, you can still jump into this one and enjoy it. Some emotionally charged scenes that actually had me a bit teary, and that's not me! Definitely a good read and a good series! Keep them coming.

This is the tenth book in the Josie Quinn series, although not my favourite. It started off very slow for the first third of the book but definitely picked up pace from there on in as the plot became more complex. There was plenty tension, the book flowed and I love the character of Josie. The book kept me guessing until the end as to who the killer was. I really like this author and would definitely recommend this series. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

I think that a book that kept you reading till 3 am should be rated in a special way, like 5 OMG or 5-TOO-GOOD. It happened with this book and the day after I was still thinking about the plot and the characters.
It’s not easy to review a book that was an emotional rollercoaster because the usual phrase “It kept me on the edge” does not describes what you were feeling and how fast you were reading.
This is an excellent series, I read other books but this was WOW!
It’s dark, complex, emotionally charged and gripping. It’s told by the POV of Josie and the killer and I found the killer chilling and disturbing.
There’s a lot of character development in this story and Josie has to face professional and personal issues that make her character grow.
Lisa Regan is a talented storyteller and her plot and characters are well written and fascinating.
The plot is full of twists and turns and the emotions run high as you cannot help being involved in what you are reading.
The solution came as a surprise and I wasn’t able to guess or suspect.
A fabulous story that left me craving for more.
I can’t wait for the next story, this one is strongly recommended.
Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

Breath Your Last is the 10th book in the Detective Josie Quinn series but it can be read as a stand-alone. This was a page-turning thriller that had non-stop action. You would think Josie had nine lives. The ending was intense and completely blew my mind. This is one of those books that keeps you guessing on who the killer could be and the reveal at the end is a shock. This was another great addition to the series and I can't wait for the next book. I definitely recommend this book.
