Warm and cosy, perfect read for winter months

I have watched a lot of "Hallmark" Christmas films but I've not read any of the books they tend to base on. I'm curious to read Cosy Christmas romance to see. This one is based at a grand hotel/event building in the Lake District. Lots of forestry stuff if you like that sort of thing. I do like that sort of thing.

It has every time typical of a cheesy Christmas cosy romance. It has a sprinkle of tragedy not much. I had to laugh when at the end, it said next year will be much better. I imagine that the book is set in 2019 so they don't know what they getting themselves into.

The characters are fine. You can root for them. But also I don't care about any of them past fictional Christmas.
It's nonsense. Everything is solved, or near solved by the end of the book. Family betrayals don't work that way. You just slice off that family branch and move on. Some of the conflicts felt very forced and bad, mainly because it's all outside conflict and has nothing to do with their relationship. Sure, it's their individual trauma that should work through, before having a healthy relationship.

The voice actor is very good at giving the characters distinct voices. Her kids' voices are more annoying than sweet, but that's just a minor nitpick and kids are harder to do.

Overall, I give this 3/5 stars for Christmas Ornaments. The wrap-up ending is is what make me dislike this book. For the most part, it's a very good romance, set at Christmas with snow and children. If you really love those, I would definitely recommend getting this book for the festive season.

Yeah, I am a bad reviewer who read this book in January before I lost access to the Netgalley, but someone I know actually spent Christmas in Hospital. Great Excuse.

I loved this Christmas story, which is a light, heartwarming romantic read. The story is about a woman called Lottie who, after heartbreak from her ex boyfriend Connor, goes on to find happiness with a new man called Jay, who works with her in her new job. Her new job is very interesting as she is working as an events manager on an estate which holds weddings and other events. Jay works on the estate taking care of the gardens and cutting down christmas trees. Together, Lottie and Jay work their magic in their workplace, as well as in their personal life. Their families also make an appearance in the book and form a big part of the story. There is a lovely Christmas wedding held in the estate, for Lottie's ex Connor and his new girlfriend. This is an lovely part of the story as it is fun seeing the excitement build up and seeing all the planning that goes into holding a big wedding. This is a great book to read at winter time, curled up cosy with a blanket and a hot chocolate.

I listened to the audiobook, which was fantastic and the narrator done a great job portraying the different characters. I also loved using the netgalley app, which always works well for me.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an audiobook copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

When we first meet the main character, Lottie, she is surprised with an unexpected proposal from her partner. Things seem to be going well with new fiancé Connor but unfortunately for Lottie, things aren't going to be happy ever after and she faces changes ahead.

Fast forward a little and Lottie has relocated to the Lake District and has now secured her dream job as a wedding planner at Firholme, a rural estate. All is going well until Lottie meets the next happy couple she will be planning a wedding for and finds herself confronted with a familiar face.

Ashley writes a well-crafted mix of characters and weaves a story which moves at a steady pace, keeping you engaged (no pun intended) in Lottie’s job as a wedding planner and the ups and downs of her life. Lottie has plenty to juggle from all directions but by the end of the book all of the storylines feel resolved and there is a sense of satisfaction at the conclusion. A lovely festive read.

This was the first book I’ve read by Phillipa Ashley and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a delightful read located in the idyllic Lake District which was just the perfect location for a Christmas book. I loved the protagonist Lottie and even though it was obvious who Lottie’s love interest is, it didn’t spoil the story. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Lottie and Jay’s relationship develop and how much they helped each other heal from past experiences. I think it’s great when a story includes negative emotions like hurt and betrayal as it helps the characters to become more realistic and allows you to feel more connected to them.

Overall, this book was a beautiful Christmas read and although it was predictable in places, it didn’t stop you from falling in love with it.

A lovely feel good Christmassy book.
I really liked Lottie as a character from the start and was invested in her journey after heartbreak.
This was definitely one of those books that you can just get lost in, enjoy the journey and finish it with a smile on your face.

This book was an absolute joy to listen too!

To begin, I loved the fact this book was set in the Lake District (I was meant to be spending my Christmas up there so I felt I still got a little part of the holiday). Ashley sets up the perfect winter romance with a gorgeous Manor House and Christmas tree farm.

As for the surprise wedding - well I really felt for Lottie. Having her ex-fiancé Connor decide to get married to someone else one year later; in the very estate where she is now the new event planner, must have been tough. Not only was Lottie battling with this news, but she also had to help her sister through her own battles; whilst looking after her two gorgeous nieces. I loved the relationship between Lottie and her sister. Her story really made me appreciate my own family and how lovely it is to have everyone around you at Christmas. Not only did I love the relationship between the two sisters, I also thoroughly enjoyed exploring the romance between Lottie and the dashing Jay. His brooding personality and heartwarming interactions with Lottie's Nieces made us all fall in love with him.

This book gave me all the feels I needed this Christmas.

Thank you #NetGalley #HarperCollins #ASupriseChristmasWedding #PhillipaAshley for the advanced copy.

A lovely Christmassy read, a feel-good book which is just what I needed during the winter of 2020.

Lottie a year after her break up from her fiancé Connor has started a new job as an event coordinator for a newly refurbed and reopened hotel when a couple arrives wanting to have a Christmas wedding at the hotel, the problem for Lottie is the groom is her ex Connor and his new fiancée would like the wedding before Christmas. Connor does not want his fiancée to know that he and Lottie have history so the story follows the trials and tribulations of Lottie arranging the wedding without the bride knowing along with a little romance thrown in for Lottie with the handsome groundskeeper Jay.

The audiobook was well-read with the characters easily distinguished from each other from the start. The storyline though quite predictable had some surprises hidden in there to tempt me to listen on.

I got an audio version of this book from NetGalley and I really enjoyed listening to it. It follows Lottie who is working at Firholme, her dream job in the Lake District. One day she finds she has a last minute Christmas wedding to organise and the groom turns out to be the man who broke her heart! This is a lovely, feel-good read that I really enjoyed listening to over a couple of weeks. The setting is beautiful and the characters are well-rounded and believable. The audio narration by Laura Kirman really added to my enjoyment and I will look out for more books narrated by her in the future. I definitely recommend this one!

What a wonderful Christmas romance. It has SO many seasonal elements you cannot fail to feel the magic of it all. Like many such books all is well after a shaky start and many misunderstandings along the way. I don't think my saying this is a spoiler as if you pick up this book to read then you can be pretty sure that you are not going to be left upset. It is pure romance and joy. The setting is wonderful and the pictures created in my mind sent me to another time and place. Just what was needed over this difficult season.

This feel-good Christmas themed novel ticks all the "treat yourself special" boxes. Nice, slow burner of a love story, interesting storyline, lessons learned with no bridges burned. Pretty much what I would expect from a Phillipa Ashley story which is why I am a devoted reader.

Lottie has moved to Firhomme, a beautiful Lake estate and events venue. She is trying to get over her broken engagement the year before and this is her dream job, to be an events planner at the estate. She is also getting to know the hunky grounds keeper and neighbour, Jay. She has been asked by her boss to plan an amazing and elegant last minute wedding for a demanding bride, Keegan. Lottie is all ready to jump right in, until she discovers the groom is her ex-fiancé Connor. They decide to keep their relationship a secret from Keegan, but you know that is going to cause problems.

I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Lottie and jay. They had both been hurt and had to get over the mistrust they had developed. We learn about Jay's story slowly throughout the story and I felt for him. Connor was not very likeable, and Lottie really dodged a bullet there. Of course the wedding had a lot of glitches that eventually work out in a fairytale way, which I think you will enjoy. All in all, a sweet story, a bit predictable, but a lovely romance where forgiveness and taking a risk come in to play. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Laura Kirman. Once I got used to her voice (accent) I enjoyed her performance very much. I recommend this sweet romance to those looking for a light read over this Christmas season.

A Christmas tree sales centre and plenty of snow.
Christmas is fast approaching and I don't seem to be much in the spirit; time to read (listen to) a Christmas novel. A Surprise Christmas Wedding comes complete with a blizzard and the sale of Christmas trees and was full of Christmas spirit, but the story fell a bit flat for me.

Lottie is bowled over by an unexpected marriage proposal by her boyfriend, Connor, while on a romantic trip away, but he seems to have changed his mind a week later and promptly moves out. She is understandably devastated and shocked. On the rebound, she moves to a new job as wedding coordinator in the Lake District hotel of Fairhome. Here she meets the handsome Jay, a shy forester with trust issues. Things are slowly moving in the right direction, when her ex turns up with a prospective bride, less than a year form the disastrous end to their relationship. They decide they aren't going to let on that they have a history together and things turn predictably farcical from then on.

Connor is a 'piece of work' and I was hoping he'd get dumped by his new bride, but the hotel is being run by Lottie's friend and so we are willing the ceremony to go ahead. The relationship with Jay is predictably affected by Lottie's behaviour. Meanwhile there is a concern for Lottie's sister who has been undergoing cancer treatment and her twin daughters are just adorable.

Overall, this was well narrated by Laura Kirman, full of the atmosphere of Christmas but a bit predictable and irritating as a narrative. Perfect for lovers of Chick Lit.
3.5 stars.

Curl up with this gorgeous story about love and second chances.

I listened to this via Audio books thanks to #netgalley and #harpercollinsukaudio

This book is a great festive read and I really enjoyed listening to it. I felt that the author really made it clear of the characters and you could really connect with them. There were things that the characters did that you would strong opinion either fore and against which I think is a great thing as you then feel attached to the story line.
There were a few little bits in the story line that I felt went on a bit longer than I think was needed but it did not make me feel bored of the storyline.

The narration of this book was great and make it very easy to listen to.

Such a lovely Christmas read. Lighthearted with just the right amount of drama mixed in.
Perfect book for this time of year

Can’t wait to read more from Phillipa Ashley in the future.

A perfect curl up in front of the fire book. I thoroughly enjoyed this story of love loss and love again.

Such a wintry Christmas setting it was idyllic, I would’ve thought more would’ve been described on the setting and the scenery.
Jay and Lottie, the two main characters are both getting over heartbreak and coming to terms with the betrayal and how to trust. It’s a sweet romance that has some mild protagonists but there is never really any doubt of this HEA.
I was lucky enough to have an ARC audio and the narrator is spot on and made it a joy to listen to!

I read an audiobook version of the book that I received from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating.
I wasn’t in the mood for a romantic book, but since I also requested 3 Christmas audiobooks, I started reading this one. I didn’t even have high expectations. The beginning didn't enchant me. I felt a little predictable that it was her ex-fiancé whose wedding she had to organize. Then I felt that the source of the problem would be that they were hiding from each other things and I hate that trope the most in the world. For me, a story isn’t a story if you’re just turned on it by lying or not telling each other things. But in the end, this part just became a side thread, and I started enjoying the story.
The romance was cute, its mood came in. My favourite part was the snowy wedding. Characters, except Connor, were lovable. I listened to it one night. It was a cute chick-lit book, though it showed nothing new.
