Wendy Dranfield has created one heck of a heroine in Madison Harper. Framed for a crime she didn't commit, Madison is focused on finding the individuals who framed her, along with getting back her son. Before she can do this, she needs to convince Nate Monroe (another person framed for a crime) to take her on as an assistant of sorts in his detective business. The two develop a fantastic rapport as they work together to find a missing child. Jenny disappeared at summer camp and her lovely grandmother is anxious to get her home... This book twists and turns so many times but the ending is very satisfying... and where Ms. Dranfield leaves off... Holy Cow! |
#FindMyChild #NetGalley Thanks NetGalley, the lovely Bookouture team and Wendy Dranfield for an ARC to review. I am so glad I picked this book, it's the first installment in a new series ( detective Madison Harper ). I am in love as I found a new favorite author and series. Two broken souls who are trying to rebuild their lives cooperate to locate a missing 12 years old Jenny who went missing from a summer camp as if vanished into thin air. The girl's parents couldn't be acting less indifferent, the authorities at the incident couldn't have acted less incompetent and the camp itself is a disaster with its suspicious staff. Can they locate the girl in time or are they bound to locate her body after all this time? A heart aching fast paced thriller. The book's structure is excellent and you will keep guessing till the end where the therapist's role could fit. I am looking forward to the next book in this series and will start looking right away to other books by Wendy Dranfield. |

Oh my!!!! This was really good! I wasn't sure at first, not into books about people doing drugs, but I quickly changed my mind. I am looking forward to the next book in this series, I hope it arrives soon. Love Brody!! Hope he sticks around as well. |

For a debut book in a series it is well written with a good storyline for the central plot. The characters need more development which could be done through the series. It would have been better to restrict the backstory of Nate to one chapter rather than a constant interlude throughout. The main plot is left with loose ends without any investigation into the girl’s involvement in the death of her siblings. It felt like the author was confused whether to make her out as an innocent victim or a clever perpetrator. 3.5 stars |
First off I want to say huge thank you to the publisher the author , and to NetGalley for inviting me to join the blog tour for this book as well as letting me read and review it.Wow just wow , this story took off running and never stopped until the last page, it had everything I love a good thriller, which is characters that are real and you can see the in your mind, twists and turns that come out of no where, and characters that will stop at non thing to make something or even someone who's in their way of happens to disappear, and a mother that I won't want to know in real life at all. What more can you ask for in a start of a new series, that has non stop action, secrets, twists and turns , as well as shocks and surprises, all of which keep you on and off track even when you have it figured out and will keep you on the edge of your set , as well as ,make you hope that they find Jennifer in time .As make you ask these questions did Jennifer just run away or just get lost in the woods or did someone actually take her and if so why. |

On the surface, Madison and Nate make for an unlikely pair - a former detective and a man who doesn’t trust cops or authority in general. But when you dig a little deeper, you add in the fact that they both solved time for crimes they didn’t commit. That gives them a common ground to build upon. Nate has become a private investigator and Madison has her cop instincts with no outlet for them. So she turns to Nate in hopes of working with him and finding out who set her up. But before they can focus on that, the two must look into the disappearance of a young girl. Did Jenny really just wander off from her camp? Or did her family - who doesn’t seem too interested in Nate’s help - have something to do with it? Ultimately the answer will be one that surprises you. With one mystery solved, can our unlikely duo stick together and solve their own mysteries? I for one can’t wait to find out. |

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Find My Child, the first novel to feature former police detective turned PI Madison Harper. Madison teams up with Nate Monroe to work the disappearance of teenager Jennifer Lucas from a summer camp in Northern California at the behest of her grandmother, Esme Lucas. Her parents aren’t so keen and as Madison investigates it becomes clear that they are keeping secrets. I quite enjoyed Find My Child which is a well plotted and written novel with some amazing twists, although some of it didn’t appeal to me. Both Nate and Madison have been convicted of separate murders and served time. Nate has since been exonerated but carries baggage about the real killer who has never been caught, while Madison insists she was framed and is hellbent on proving it and reuniting with the son she lost when she went to prison. The plot of the investigation is interrupted by regular flashbacks to Nate’s history. Little is said about Madison’s case so I can only assume that this will be explored in the next novel as implied by the ending to this one. The author has a fair attempt at describing Nate’s experiences but it ends up superficial and not particularly relevant to the main plot. There are also chapters of a therapist reading an unnamed client’s diary. Their relevance only becomes apparent at the end and in the meantime they are distracting. I found much of the investigation boring until the reveals started coming at the end. These are stunning, impactful and bring the novel to life. I admired the author’s ability to keep them under wraps for so long. On this first meeting I can’t say that I took to Madison. Her character seems jerky and not fully formed. Nate is a troubled individual and who wouldn’t be after his experiences, but the two of them as a combination seem too oppressive for a novel that’s supposed to be entertainment. Find My Child is a solid read which will appeal to many readers. |
I was a bit skeptical when I began this book. Both main characters are former felons, although wrongfully convicted. Both grew on me as the story developed. In fact, I liked their unorthodox approach as the law had failed both. Toward the end, my stomach twisted with all,the heinous revelations. Diabolical minds lurked in the shadows. My Favkrite character is Brody, the dog. I liked him instantly. He is smart, concise, and patient for the humans to figure out what he already knows. I have to read the next book to see what happens next. |
I’m definitely excited for the rest of this series! This was a great thrill and I know there will be lots of drama in the next books. Good characters as well. |
What a start to a fabulous series. Action packed, riveting first installment had me hooked from the first chapter. Such a thrilling read and can't wait to continue the series. Nate and Madison are an incredible team with rich individual backstories that I cannot wait to unravel and continue on their journey with them. Well done! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC |
I've read quite a few psychological thrillers this year. Many promise the reader an 'unputdownable read' or an 'edge of your seat experience'. Some live up to those promises, some don't. Find My Child, Wendy Dranfield's debut for Bookouture delivers all of that and more. It is indeed an unputdownable read with a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat from page one until ‘The End’. I've read her other three thrillers and really enjoyed them, but this book seems to have elevated her writing to another level. Central characters Nate and Madison come with baggage. They’ve been in prison, both wrongly convicted. So, as well as their first case, to find a missing twelve year old, the need to prove their innocence is also an issue with both of them. Madison also needs to find her son who was taken into care when she was imprisoned. It’s an easy read and the characters are well developed. Nate was studying to be a priest when he was arrested and imprisoned for murder and Madison was a serving policewoman when she was incarcerated. New evidence has seen Nate released with massive financial compensation while Madison served her term and is all but broke. Wanting someone to help her clear her name and also find her son Owen, she approaches Nate. She also needs a job, and figures that with his similar background he might employ her to work for him. He already has his first case – to find a missing child - and she convinces him with her police background she could be useful. Nate eventually agrees. In the beginning they tend to rub each other up the wrong way but each brings their own individual talents to the partnership and as the book progresses, they begin to settle down together. In their search for missing twelve-year-old Jennifer Lucas, there are false trails, shocks and surprises, all of which keep you on track, wanting to know what exactly did happen to her. It’s a brilliantly written story and I’m really looking forward to the second book which comes out in the new year. Oh, and as a postscript if you loved Rocky in her Dean Matheson series I’m sure you will love Brody too. My thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC of Find My Child in exchange for an honest review. Well deserving of five stars. |

This new series opens with a great mystery with lots of twists and turns. Madison Harper is a former police detective who was falsely convicted for a murder and has been released from prison. She is barely surviving as a waitress in a rundown halfway house. Determined to find the people responsible for her unlawful conviction, she tracks down a man who also was wrongly convicted for a murder he didn't commit. Nate was finally cleared of the murder, after spending too long on death row, thanks to a law professor and her students who get new evidence to prove his innocence. Nate receives a sizable settlement for his wrongful death sentence, but rather than living off the money, he has decided to be a private investigator seeking to right the wrongs in others' lives, especially those done by corrupt cops. He and Madison team-up on the case of a missing girl, and through their investigation become better acquainted, and we learn more about both of them. My only critique of the book is that the title should accurately reflect that this is not a book about Madison; it is a book about both Madison and Nate. Sometimes it is difficult to follow the changing of perspectives among the different characters. I am intrigued to see what happens next for Nate and Madison. |
Happy to see this is a first in its series by this author and she’s already working on book #2. Fast paced, action packed from the very page! Really enjoyed it and looking forward to more with Nate and Madison. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. |
First in a new series and I can’t wait to read more! The main characters are interesting - a wrongfully convicted man who was going to be a priest and who hates cops becomes a private investigator and a convicted, disgraced police detective out to prove she was set-up. This is the beginning, I think, to a strong, new detective series and I am interested to see where it goes next. Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC. |
Loved this book it sucked me in from page one. A really great start to a new series, can’t wait for the next one! It was tense and thrilling and had me holding my breath in places. Really enjoyed this book and it totally deserves 5 stars. |
This is the first installment in Wendy Dranfield's Detective Madison Harper series. I enjoyed this book. It was a solid detective story, with plenty of twists and turns. Props to the author for creating such unique backstories for the main characters. Madison is a former police officer who was framed for a crime she didn't commit. After serving a few years in prison, she is finally out and is determined to find out who framed her. She tracks down Nate, a private investigator who was also framed for a crime he didn't commit and served seventeen years before his conviction was overturned. Nate reluctantly agrees to help Madison but first, they team up to solve the disappearance of a twelve-year-old girl named Jennifer. What they find is shocking and twisted. There were so many lies and secrets revealed in the last few chapters that it left my head spinning. I never saw any of the twists coming and was shocked when the horrific truth behind Jennifer's disappearance was revealed. If you're a fan of detective stories /police procedurals, then this new series should definitely be on your list. I enjoyed the characters of Nate and Madison and look forward to the next book. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. |
A really good start to a series! It took me a while to get into the book. I think it’s because the stories behind the two main characters took me by surprise, and I had to wrap my mind around what was going on. Points for creating different and interesting character! It’s not very day I read about an ex-cop released from prison, and a “was meant to become a priest, ended up on death row” (now a free man again) trying to solve a case of a girl gone missing from summer camp. Both are fueled by revenge, and they want justice. They want justice for themselves. Both were imprisoned because others lied. Their lives will never be the same because of what happened, and as long as the people behind their incarceration are not being punished, they won’t be able to let go. The book focuses on the extremely brutal case of the lost, presumed to be abducted or dead, girl. It turns out to be an emotional case, and no one is to be trusted, most definitely not the local police, since neither one of the two former inmates turned PIs would trust the police after what happened to them. It is evident that there will be at least a sequel to this book because of the cliffhanger ending, but also because even though we know the two man characters want revenge, they didn’t really have time to further their causes in this book. Now they are on the way to Madison’s hometown in Colorado, and the next book will most likely shed a lot of light on what happened to her in the past. We already know what happened to Nate, but he still has many issues to solve. I will definitely read the second book in the series to find out the truth together with Nate and Madison. I grew to like the story very much after the initial moment of “what am I reading, what is going on?”. I believe the characters will grow a lot in the second book. Definitely recommended for anyone who enjoys detective stories. Just be aware that the subject in this book can trigger strong emotions, if you are a sensitive reader. I appreciated this book since it was different, well-plotted, and addictive. Wow! |

When Jenny goes missing from summer camp, Nate is hired by Jenny's grandmother to investigate her disappearance. Now a private investigator, Nate suffers from a hatred for police officers due to a stint on death row which he was later exonerated for. However, his past has taken a toll on his emotional state which Madison, a former police officer turned convict, soon finds out. Nate and Madison team up to solve the mystery of Jenny's mystery. Wendy Dranfield develops Nate and Madison's characters very well and left the door open for more books in the series. There are mysteries around each character that have been left unanswered which I cannot wait to have solved. If you like a good mystery, Find My Child is worth reading. I truly enjoyed the plot and characters. Thank you NetGalley for an arc in exchange for my honest review. |
Madison Harper, ex cop and jailbird tracks down Nate Monroe, ex death row prisoner who was released after the verdict was overturned seventeen years later. Nate is a PI and Madison wants his help in proving she was innocent. Nate agrees but she must help him solve the disappearance of a young girl Jennifer Lucas from summer camp in Northern California. Her grandmother Esme has employed Nate as she feels the local PD and her son/daughter in law aren’t doing enough. Nate and Madison drive to the camp to try and discover what has happened to Jennifer. Another storyline running through the book focuses on Dr Pamela Jarvis who is reading a patient’s notes. Are these two stories connected and if so how? There are also flashbacks into Nate’s past life and how is girlfriend Stacey died. This is such a well written story- exciting, sadness, pathos and incompetence. A lot of the time I didn’t know where the story was leading, certainly didn’t predict the ending. Loved this book and can’t wait for next instalment of Madison/ Nate. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book in return for a fair review. 5 Stars. ⭐️ |
