Breathe Deep, Little Sheep introduces young children to the importance of learning to self calm when anxiety or worrying starts. Simple text offers strategies such as breathing deeply, taking a break somewhere quiet and talking about feelings. The illustrations feature animals and fit the strategies well. A perfect introduction to self calming and mindfulness.

As a therapist, I'm always looking for tools to use with young children, and to share with families to support their kids at home.

Breathe Deep, Little Sheep is an accessible, sweet introduction to mindfulness techniques that will engage children and simplify teaching techniques for parents and professionals. The rhymes in this book aid with engagement and with retaining the skills so they can be used during times of anxiety.

This was such a lovely book with great illustrations. I think it’s really important to have picture books and look at things like anxiety for both kids and their parents to read. This would be a great book for school counsellors to have to work with children who may be dealing with anxious feelings.

This title has absolutely adorable and appealing illustrations of both young and adult animals. These should bring a smile to the face of both the child and adult who are looking at this book together. Further, seeing animals and not children may make it easier for children to engage with a book about anxiety.

This is a book to read with a child who is experiencing a bit of anxiety or to read with a child way before those feelings arise. There are gentle suggestions of things to try when a child is overwhelmed. The message that something can be done should be reassuring to a child. Practice right along with the child that you know and let them know that we all need to calm ourselves at times.

This is a book that has a number of suggestions. They do not have to all be done at once. Perhaps a child can pick something to try based on the pages that most appeal to them.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. It is an excellent resource.

A lovely book with such cute illustrations. We follow little sheep with anxiety. Finding ways to deal with their uncomfortable feelings. This book teaches about mental health. Which is great for children to be introduced to, to help end the stigma.
***I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.***.

This was a really cute little book. The art was absolutely beautiful. I think it's great someone wrote a book for children on dealing with anxiety. Children' deal with this just as much as adults do. Such a gorgeous book.

The animals in this book demonstrate the calming behaviors that the rhyming lines say. I’m not sure how effective it would be with kids, for sure it would need a discussion.

Breathe Deep, Little Sheep: A Calm Down Book for Kids by Jessica Lee gives young children tools for calming themselves. Their are animals who have anxieties and fears who need help learning strategies for being able to deal with their feelings. Some of the strategies include imagining a peaceful preferred place, exercising to shake worries loose, using words to verbalize feelings, quieting busy thoughts, and calming their breathing. There is also a page to explain how to teach steps for calming down to young children. The illustrations by Lucia Wilkinson are cute and are very peaceful looking. This book would be perfect for parents, teachers, guidance counselors, and therapists to use to teach young children how to calm their anxieties. As a special education teacher (self contained autism), I have had many students who have had meltdowns because they are unable to deal with their anxieties and worries. This is definitely a book that I will be adding to my classroom library to help my students.

Unfortunately the file of this book would not work for me so I am unable to review it and give an accurate rating. It looks like a cute book and I hope to read a final copy at a later time!

I did try several different ways to make it work and contacted NetGalley, but it seems like I will unfortunately not be able to review it.

Perfect for preschoolers to begin to teach mindfulness. Simple text and rhymes paired with adorable illustrations makes this an easy hit for preschools.

I like the simplicity of this book. The images are simple but saturated with calming colors. The rhyming pattern makes it entertaining and sing-songy for little children and rhymes tend to be easier to remember. There is also some repetition with the suggested mantra "inhale, exhale, then repeat." In fact, I wouldn't have minded more repetition of that mantra, but that is something the reader/parent could tack on to the end of each rhyming section. The author pulled habits that are relevant to both the animals and humans in reactions to fear or anxiety, like a dog hiding under a bed during a thunderstorm or a squirrel hoarding nuts. Further the end page that is primarily addressed to the adult reader, discusses why breathing can help with staying calm and details exercises you can try that may help your child understand this and learn a breathing technique.

This is a book that would be great at a baby shower or for a toddler gift! It's never too early to start teaching the foundations to calm down.

This little introduction to mindfulness was very cute. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for in terms of a true introduction but it was enjoyable. I think having a little bit more explanation of what each animal was feeling before the calming down may have been more helpful. My child loved the illustrations and I really enjoyed the last page explaining different techniques to teach them how to breathe and calm themselves.

Breathe Deep, Little Sheep by Jessica Lee was a delightful book that had an important message. It is never to early to teach our little ones to recognize their emotions and the power they have to gain control over their thoughts. The beautiful illustrations showed a variety of animals and the fun circumstances that caused them to exhale, relax and repeat. The message on mindfulness was even a good reminder for me! My almost four year old was a big fan of this book and the easy to remember mantras will be shared when he is feeling less than calm!

I was provided a free copy of this book by Net Galley in exchange for a honest review. The opinions shared are my own.

A picture book with not only little sheep but animals that children love will help your little one to learn to breathe. When your child feels anxiety, simple breathing exercises help your child to control their emotions and body.

With the different animals and situations, children will identify they own fears and coping skills and build confidence. Highly recommend.

A Special thank you to Andrews McMeel Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC the opportunity to post an honest review

This was a sweet book with cute drawings, soothing rhymes, and good tips for kids to calm themselves and practice mindfulness. My kids loved the variety of animals and the different activities. They also liked repeating the mantra: exhale, repeat, relax. A great addition to any child's library.

I love that this book is aimed ant creating positive mental health and coping skills for kids. Likewise, the art is charming and the rhyme scheme is engaging as we look at how all the little animals cope with their anxieties. That said, some of the vocabulary and strategies ("break it up into little steps") seem advanced for the toddler/preschool age group that the art and words appear to be aimed at.

SUCH a cute book! It's hard to get my son to sit and listen to me read but he tolerated this longer than most, lol. I'd definitely recommend this to moms of preschool age littles.

I love the rhyming text and short sentences. The imagery and text will help kids relax and calm down when they are feeling anxious. I like the three step method at the end of the book to teach breathing exercises to young children.
