A really good thriller, and definitely keeps you guessing who murdered Blake right to the end, so although sometimes I felt it was a bit slow in places, with not much happening, it keeps you guessing, and wanting to read on as you want to find out what actually happened to Blake - and it wasn't what I was expecting!!

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Blake Nelson was found murdered. His three wives Rachel,Tina and Emily were all considered suspects. This book kept me guessing until the very end.

This book made me laugh at times with the descriptions of the way of life that this Mormon sect behaved. The story was based on the wives and each one telling their story and sharing their emotions. All the way through I thought that I knew who the real murderer was but the ending was so unexpected and the plot so carefully evolved that I had no idea of the real murderer at all, not even thought about that particular person. . So well written with a really good ending which even to the last page added yet another twisty thought.
Highly recommend

Oh my goodness this was a good book.

An intriguing look at relationships, religion and cult psychology.

At times dark and disturbing, it is a powerful story and a gripping murder mystery.

Highly recommend.

What a read. Loved this one and it's a book that set me off researching the Mormon life for women. The characters were strong and likeable and I enjoyed seeing the story through the eyes of the sister wives. As for 'who dun it' I never guessed it, and suspected everyone. I have already told several friends about the book, its just so different it stands out from the rest. Brilliant.

This is an usual plot about Mormonism which was interesting and informative. Based in Utah, Blake is a polygamist with three wives. Who killed him? The book has many twists and is told through the eyes of all the wives. I found the layout frustrating and could not identify why the later wives agreed to marry. Each had their own underlying story to tell.

Three wives
One dead husband
How's the killer?

I absolutely loved this book. I have always been fascinated by cults and polygamy, so when this landed on my kindle I was very eager to start reading, and I was not disappointed. The story is narrated following each wife's point of view, which makes it a very interesting read because they are all so different, you start seeing the same things in different ways and you don't know who to trust.

The pace is fast and it kept me entertained all the way to the end, I really wanted to know who was the killer and I could not put it down until I finished it. Unfortunately I figured out who the killer was and I was a bit disappointed by the ending. However, I definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a dark mystery.

I would like to thank NetGallery and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I liked the way the story was told; each wife telling her version of events in alternating chapters. It also enabled the wives to have a personality and to be differentiated from each other.
The premise of the story is intriguing. Blake, the husband is found dead and his three Mormon wives are the prime suspects.
What bothered me a little was the lack of pace and suspense, it was a bit like Rachel's cooking, substance but lacking flavour. The reveal was well thought out and the content allows plenty of scope for discussion.
Worth a read

Polygamist Blake Nelson built a homestead on a hoidden stretch of land where he lives with his three wife's:

The first wife, Rachel is obedient and doting to a fault, but she's a past she'd prefer to keep quiet.

The second wife, Tina is a rebel, everything Rachel isn't. Straight from rehab and the Vegas Strip.

The third wife, Emily is the young one who's niave and scared. She's estranged from her Catholic family.

The only thig the women had in common was Blake. Until all three are accused of murder.

This book kept me on my toes. My mind was changed multiple times to who the murderer could be. I did eventually work it out but never spoils a good story for me. Secrets are slowly revealed around each wife. It's packed full of twists and red herrings. The story is told from the three wifes perspectives with alternate chapters that tells us of the events before and after Blake's death. This is a well written story that's gripping from the start.

I wouldlike to thank #NetGalley, #OrionPublishingGroup and the author #CateQuinn for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was sent this by the author in return for a honest review.

This book honestly surprised me, I didn't expect to enjoy it especially not as much as I did. It had me hooked from the start and I found myself blaming all 3 wives and watching their lives unravel and their stories told really made me create feelings for everyone involved. The ending honestly shocked me so much I truly wasn't expecting it. It was interesting and a very unique story which touches on religion and beliefs, cults, child abuse, adultery, mixed marriage. I would love to read anymore of Cate's work if she was to write anymore books as I throughly enjoy her writing style.

Blake Nelson is found dead under the desert sun in the wilds of Utah where he lives hidden away with his three wives.
No one else knows the location of the off-the-grid ranch and police quickly pinpoint doting first wife Rachel, unworldly youngest spouse Emily and former Vegas hustler Tina as the only suspects.
The women’s back stories emerge against a backdrop of cults, cruelty and the traditions and lifestyle of the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) religion for a thoroughly gripping whodunnit.

A very different read to what I’m used to, this look in to the world of the LDS church was both interesting and gripping. A story about 3 sister wives and who killed their husband. It was well written, emotional and intriguing and I would recommend this read.

3 wives, 1 husband, hes dead, who did it?

I got really into this book relatively quickly. It felt a bit on the long side but its definitely a page turner. You get 3 POV but its one timeline which I really liked, things get muddled but not confusing which I always think is a skill some murder mysteries cant pull off, this one does.

The characters are all flawed but loveable. It touches on some very harrowing subjects so it gets hard to read in places but the pay off is worth it. Id be interested to know if the author knows of or has been directly involved in a cult situation because it seemed so real at times.

Calling it a fun read seems a little stupid but its definitely one to read if you can handle it. 4/5.

Given the choice, many people might avoid a book containing detailed elements of coercion, polygamy or cults: this book has them all within a family story narrative. I found it surprisingly interesting and entertaining and strangely compelling. It is set in the environs of Salt Lake City, USA. The deceit and mystery elements are carefully crafted up to a late denouement which adds to the tension. There is even a hint at Romance at the end of the story, something which was entirely absent from the lives of the characters in the story. Recommended.

Black Widows is a thriller quite unlike any I've read before. Rachel, Emily and Tina all share a husband, Blake. They live on a remote ranch in Utah, and are cut off from the rest of the world. The story is told by all three women, and gradually more and more layers of intrigue are uncovered.

The action begins immediately with the death of Blake in suspicious circumstances. Rachel is arrested, but proclaims her innocence. Emily then confesses to murdering Blake, but nobody believes she is guilty.

Rachel and Tina set out to investigate what really happened, and secrets and lies are revealed with every chapter. Rachel is also haunted by flashbacks from her time as a child - she was born into a cult.

This book will keep you guessing all the way through. I changed my mind about who I thought was guilty so many times. But there is a twist that I didn't foresee.

Deliciously escapist and with a satisfyingly optimistic ending, it was an enjoyable read, if somewhat contrived at times.

I find the whole thing around polygamy really interesting so this book really appealed to me. Blake is found murdered. His three wives. Rachel, Emily and Tina are all so different but all have a reason to be the culprit. Did one of the wives kill the husband that wasn’t as perfect as he seemed. Are any of them covering for the real murderer.
Told in the point of views of each of the wives. This book will keep you gripped right until the end.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book
Blake is a polygamist in Salt Lake City with 3 wives.- but which one killed him? I was very intrigued by this book and it certainly proved to be a very different read. Sad to say it was rather slow going and not really very much seemed to happen. I didn't really connect with this book or the characters. I don't really get why wives 2 and 3 would agree to marrying someone they already knew was married. The author says its not about Mormonism but it can't really not be.
Interesting but not for me

Well this was certainly different and most definitely an education! Three wives in a polygamous Mormon marriage, Tina, Emily and first wife Rachel! Blake, the husband is found dead in suspicious circumstances! Was it one of the three wives who are all so very different in character? The story certainly kept me on my toes and I found their beliefs and their trials and tribulations quite fascinating. It all unravelled nicely and I was more than happy with the conclusion! A good yarn!

It was a different story which I enjoyed. You keep wanting to read when you find out all three wives have different characteristics. You can’t take it all seriously as it’s someone’s verison of the religion.

Mormon Blake Nelson builds a good life for himself in a very isolated homestead in Utah. He is found dead, believed murdered by his wife. Ok, but which one? Is it legal wife one, Rachel, quietly obedient or maybe sister wife two ex Catholic naive Emily or is it worldly wise sister wife three Tina, the ‘cuckoo’ in their nest? Each wife tells the story in their own way.

First of all, this is an original mystery that’s hard to put down. The story is character driven which works extremely well and I like the varied pace of their storytelling. It’s fascinating trying to work out which narrative is the most reliable as they are all guilty of not necessarily lying but omission and telling the truth as they see it. The characters are very good, they’re all well developed and you see their individual personalities very clearly. Rachel seems obedient and has a past in a cult known as The Sunshine Homestead and her experiences are very dark and absolutely shocking and so no wonder her recall is piecemeal. She is like the mother of the group. Emily is young, innocent especially about sex, frightened but not as weak as she might seem. Tina is whip-smart, a former Las Vegas show girl and drug addict which she is trying to shed through marriage to Blake. Their perceptions of each other are fascinatingly illuminating though it tends to muddy the suspect waters. It’s equally fascinating observing how the dynamics between the wives changes both in their attitudes to each other but also Blake. Adelaide Nelson, Blake’s mother is a brittle but intriguing character and some of her actions make your jaw drop. The multilayered book has so many elements to it which are woven together fluidly and with clever misdirection. We witness the turmoil of the women, their fears, suspicion, there’s a host of secrets, cover ups but at its heart lies the mystery of Blake’s killer. Thank you Tina for the occasional humour to lighten the dark load. I like the ending which takes the storyline almost full circle.

Overall, this is an excellent novel that is very hard to stop reading once you’ve started. It is a dark character driven tale that hooks you from the beginning and keeps you invested in seeking the truth.

NB Other Mormons in the story reject Blake’s polygamy - it is illegal!

With thanks to NetGalley and especially Orion for the arc for an honest review.
