Many thanks to the author, publishers and Netgalley for a free ARC of this ebook.
This is a really well written book by the well known TV broadcaster and food champion Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Hugh is really banging the drum for healthy eating in this book. He explores a number of current healthy food trends, not all of which I'd consider including in my diet, but are very worthy nonetheless. It's a enjoyable read, very engaging, and there are a lot of lovely recipes. Beautifully illustrated too.
It would be a great addition to any collection of food books.

Simple and straightforward advice on how to eat more healthily and reap the benefits - all good stuff, lovely recipes to try and not too much preaching.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's latest book looks at how we can eat well to stay well with 7 ways to do so. These are; going whole, going varied, looking after your gut, reducing refined carbs, factoring in fat, thinking about what we drink and how to eat mindfully. There isn't any new information here but it's good to have these ideas set out clearly and accessibly and I definitely found some inspiration here on how to tweak my diet to eat that bit more healthily. There are also some useful tips on how to eat well to lose weight. There are some lovely recipes that I'll definitely be trying particularly those with fish. It's a beautifully presented book and I'd recommend it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher

Eat Better Forever is a bit disappointing, it is basically a collation of healthy eating advice that has been covered by so many other books & magazine articles which anyone with an interest in health eating is probably aware of and read. The recipes are what disappointed me the most, nothing really new and can you even class putting a pieces of cut up Apple & Orange on a plate as a recipe!!!

I was given a copy of Eat Better Forever by NetGalley and the publishers in return for an unbiased review.

We all know that lifestyle changes trump faddy diets and that is what this book is based on. The first half educates about how to quit unhealthy habits and switch them for healthy ones. Giving us the tools to make the changes and how everything is connected with regard to eat healthy, sleep better, de-stress. How to detox and quit all the sugary things that we know are bad for us. It's all a bit sciency in places but it's easy to follow science and all makes sense.
Given the times we are in at the moment, I am trying my best to get fitter, lose the pounds and become a more healthy person. Where to start though? I know all about nutrition, I've done a course. And this book matched what I already knew. But theory is all well and good. I know what I need to do. I just need some recipes to make it happen. And yes, a lot of the recipes contained within this book aren't for me. But, flicking through, I have earmarked quite a few to try and actually already started.
The author is well respected (by me anyway) and he comes across as genuine and not at all preachy which is important as I think we have enough rules to contend with at the moment.
Will this book change my life completely? Probably not. Will it help me become a healthier person? Yes, I think it will. It's certainly got me thinking and making plans and that's a great start.

I do like cookbooks and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall is one that I was really looking forward to. He has been a favourite of mine since I first watched The River Cottage and so I was looking forward to this book a lot.

To be honest, I am a little disappointed, it is an okay book. I did find that the first half of the book to be very basic and at times repetitive. The book starts with an intro and then spends the next 7 chapters or 209 pages of information about whole foods, your gut, healthy eating, balancing your diet, refining diet and reducing carbs for weight loss. While this is all very good I found that for me, it left only half the book for recipes.

Now the recipes, some really are very, very basic. For example "Apple and Orange Breakfast", you decore the apple and slice, the orange is peeled, the pith removed and sliced, then you sprinkle nuts, seeds or drizzle yoghurt or honey over. That it! Very nice picture though! There are some recipes that do involve more steps and I did like the "Overnight Oats" ideas and the whole grain pancakes were lush.

To be fair, there are some very good and very nice recipes int his book, but there are quite a few that are very basic indeed. I think this book is good for someone who is starting out with there cooking and trying to develop a different lifestyle through diet and food. But, this is a book that is trying to appeal to many different people from the beginner through to the more experienced and this just lets it down for me.

It is a good book don't get me wrong, and I do have a background in catering and food science from many years ago so maybe this is why this book didn't quite work for me as I had expected it to. There are however some recipes that I do like and that I will be using. This is a book more of advice with recipes.

This book outlines 7 ways which combined will boost health and whilst they may seem common sense the book aims to provide the tools to change habits and to boost mental health (avoiding stress, sleep advice and giving supportive time to help others). There is a wide breadth of recipes including vegan, vegetarian and meat/fish dishes and a balance of easy and more challenging dishes. For those, like myself, avoiding sugar and non-processed foods this book will provide a very useful source of inspiration. Thanks to Bloomsbury and Netgalley for a review copy.

A fab book on how to live and eat sustainably, it has a lot of info which I already knew about so nothing groundbreaking, but beautifully put together and some lovely looking recipes.

I really liked this non=preachy, non-prescriptive guide to eating better. It’s not a drastic ‘change everything right now’ or ‘drop this food group immediately’ book, but a template of things you can slowly change to be healthier. The recipes look great and the first one we tried was delicious. A really great approach.

Really interesting layout for a cookbook - it starts with 7 chapters of ways to eat better, each focussing on a different element, including gut health, mindfulness and whole grains. Some of the information provided here I already knew from other books, but it was still interesting.

The recipes provided as the second half of the book unfortunately weren't as interesting to me. Nothing was really a standout for me, and while there were some recipes I would like to try out, I found a lot of them weren't really to my taste. It did definitely encourage me to broaden my vegetable horizons though!

As usual Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's passion for food and sustainability shines through in this latest cookbook, although really it is more of a manual for eating.
It outlines the benefits of each food group and then provides recipes to inspire you. He gives ideas for alternative foodstuffs that are more healthy than the foods we are currently eating and drinking. E.g. Oils, drinks etc. Portion size is another area of concern for him.
It is 'food for thought' but I did find it a bit preachy!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bloomsbury Publishing for the ARC of this book.

I really enjoyed this book, I learnt so much. I especially liked the chapter about gut health. Overall, the book was easy to read/navigate, great images included and left me feeling really good about the changes I need to make.

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

Wow! This book caused me to carry out a new first - I ordered a hard copy before I was even halfway through reviewing an arc! Just such a clear, sensible book about how to eat healthily based on the most recent research. Not at all preachy, condescending or complicated. The facts are just laid out simply with enough scientific evidence to back it up, taking you through straightforward ways to improve your diet. An approach is also given for losing weight whilst eating well which I am following and finding to be very effective. The second half of the book is full of recipes that use easy to find ingredients, combined together in tasty and satisfying meals. The recipes are not complicated or over fussy and there are lovely colour photos of each entry. I also love the author’s humorous style.
My father in law was recently widowed and is struggling to understand how to feed himself well and I am going to order him a copy too as it is so easy to understand and the recipes are so easy to make. This book should be on prescription!

This is an excellent book about food. It's less recipe book and more a guide to healthy eating and understanding food and nutrition.
Well written in the typical style of the author and very easy to read and follow.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this copy in exchange for an honest review.

I am equal parts frustrated at the lack of new information and relieved at the way in which the information is set out - without one iota of condescension! This I think is rare in a healthy food / healthy lifestyle book.
Don’t get me wrong there’s snippets of information that I found inspiring and intriguing, maybe even bordering on new but ultimately it’s a lot of recipe book telling you how to eat healthy with information most of us already know. It really didn’t need to be stretched out over so many pages, what was helpful were the recaps and so snapshotting the information into one page, you could almost just have that at the front then detail at the back (in case you need a reminder). Those recaps would serve me better than the very in depth text on what I already know but choose to forget or have my brain wiped once I step foot inside the kitchen or restaurant!
There was nothing wrong with the recipes but immediately the breakfast options had me gobsmacked that after a couple hundred pages of Hugh understanding convenience food is convenient and is understandable in our daily lives he then doesn’t foresee the problem with having to cook a meal or prepare food to sit down and eat at your leisure. Where is the whole food healthy convenient / grab and go options!?
Lunches faired a little better for me because I am office based, however, everything has to be nut free so discount a few more options and Hugh is failing at pulling off the easy bit in his book.
Don’t get me wrong there are definite recipes I love the idea of and hope to enjoy but convenient they are not, whole Heartedly healthy they are.... probably a little too much so for me to adapt to the lifestyle Hugh is trying to entice us into.

Review based on an eARC provided by the publishers

I own several of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's cookbooks already, so I was really looking forward to reviewing this gem that was published 31 December 2020.

The focus point of this book is not recipes, although there are a lot of really good ones. The focus is eating habits for a better, healthier life. Most of the author's suggestions weren't new to me, but that doesn't mean that I've fully implemented them into my life. That's why I especially liked the summary lists at the end of each chapter about the "7 Ways" to Eat Better Forever.

This is exactly the right book to start 2021 positively. This is not a time for self deprivation, no matter how important we know it is to attain a healthy weight. This sensible, well researched and inspirational book encourages us to enjoy healthy eating habits and relish the many delicious whole foods available to us. The author offers a holistic and positive approach to eating well. The advice is clearly presented and attainable. The recipes are varied and tasty. This is very much a book about encouraging us to embrace how good healthy food can be, rather than focusing on what we need to give up. I have been lucky enough to review it on NetGalley, but have also treated myself to a hardback copy. A beautiful and hopeful book.

An interesting read and I may buy the book. It is hard to read a book like this through the tiny screen of my phone. At least on kindle its a better interface.

I really like Hugh F-W's cook books, and this one is no exception. Full of practical, well tested advice and recipes, on how to start with simple changes to benefit your health. I can't wait to try the recipes, and use the tips to tweak some of my usual meals into something both healthy and tasty. A very good read which encourages simple changes and explains the reasons behind them.
