I loved the way in which this story was told, through the eyes of Richard - who is telling his children the story of how he fell in love with their mother.

Following their high school years, when their feelings grow and they become much closer to one another, they find themselves having to face society, and the abundance of racism that they have to face with Richard being white and Sarabi being a black woman. Richard's father is one of the worst for this, pushing Richard to date a white woman, but this is something that doesn't come unexpected as his father is unkind to him in many ways.

And then in the present day we follow the reaction that the children have to their parents love story - one that is rather bittersweet from the beginning, especially with the knowledge that their mother Sarabi has passed away.

The story is emotionally driven from beginning to end, but is definitely one of those stories that you will find yourself thinking about long after you have closed the book.

This story was not for me. I read reviews about this having a “How I Met Your Mother” vibe but being as I’ve never seen that show, I had no idea what that meant. About 30% in, I found out. Turns out, this story is basically just a telling of past events. We spend the whole book learning about the budding romance between of the main character and his late wife when they were young, with most of it taking place during the high school years. That would be fine is this was like a young adult book but it wasn’t. I really dislike flashbacks in books in general but having them as the main feature didn’t sit well with me. And to make matters worse, there was no greater purpose in the telling of the “love story”. We learned about their road to love and that was it.

This review in no way knocks the writing abilities of the author, as it was written well. This story was just not for me.

I received a complimentary copy of Love Lost No More in exchange for an honest review. This was definitely a unique story. It was a quick and easy read, and left me with so many different emotions. The children were all adorable, and it was so refreshing reading a story about a dad that is completely committed to his family. If you are looking for something a little outside of the norm, this would be a good book to dabble in.

This book gave me "How I met your Mother" vibes but on a much deeper and sweeter level because Richard is a widow, currently sharing the story of his love with his three children and we get to see it from their perspective, and that's downright adorable.

Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.

Love Lost No More is a sweet and tender romance by Rachel Marissa.

I enjoy the way it's written in a How I Met Your Mother type style, with Richard telling his kids how he feel in love with their mother.

Their story follows their high school years, as their feelings become real and they struggle with society's expectations. Aka - racism, as Richard is white and Sarabi is black. Their tale includes other boyfriends/girlfriends and waiting to get on the same page.

Richard's father wants Richard to date a white girl. His dad is also just a jerk to him in general.

As for the present, the kids are cute, and lend some tender moments to the tale. Overall, it's a bittersweet read, as we know from the start that Sarabi has died. The end is precious though.

The writing is great, the storyline is good, and it's an easy read.

Love Lost No More is one of those sweet stories I am glad I read. I don't love it, but Rachel Marissa definitely left me compelled throughout.
