Emma is determined to heal and begin a new chapter in her life after a tumultuous end with her ex-fiance Beaux. Emma meets Julian who moves into the empty house next door following the death of the home's former owner Mr. Turnip who was like a father to Emma. As Emma tries to settle in to a new relationship with Julian her past comes back to haunt her and she has to look over her shoulder after being threatened by Beaux. Emma decides to take control of her life and begins a conquest to hold Beaux accountable for his crimes against not only her but other women spanning years. Digging in to his past means Emma must give up people she loves to keep them safe.
This was an interesting read full of layers of secrets that get uncovered one at a time throughout the book. It kept me thoroughly engaged and was a page turner as I had to figure out what would happen with Emma and Julian. About halfway through the book I thought I had the plot figured out and it almost became a DNF for me but I am glad I stuck with it as it turned out a bit different than I expected. Myers is definitely a creative author who leaves no stone unturned. Every loose end was tied up which I respect when reading a book. The ending was great for this book and the epilogue suggests a sequel. Great book!

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

The story maybe had potential but I just didn’t think the writing was great. The dialogue was especially awkward. It ruined it for me. DNF.

The Truth About Unspeakable Things by Emily A Myers is the first book I have read from this author and I enjoyed it. When, Emma MarshalL moves to New Orleans and she hopes to start a fresh because she has broken off her engagement from her cheating fiance. Emma suffers a brutal sex attack whilst in New Orleans.

This book is full of twists and turns that will have you Hooked from the beginning till the end, However, some parts of this book was very hard to read and it was very emotional in parts so be warned! as it can be disturbing at times!! So proceed with caution.

I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn't sure about this book upon getting it because I'm not big on contemporary romances. The genre just isn't that exciting for me so I usually pass on books that fall into this category. I was curious about it because I thought it would be about a survivor recovering from a traumatic life event that could maybe be relatable. While it did have some of those elements it felt like a mish-mash of emotional hard-hitting shocking story and making light of things too watered it down to keep people from being turned off by it just strickly being an emotional read. I did think the writing was well done but it just really wasn't the book for me, however, I'm sure that anyone that loves contemporary romance will absolutely love this book.

This just didn’t end up being a book that interested me. When I first read the premise, I was very excited and invested, but getting into it made it clear that it just wasn’t for me. Hopefully it works for others out there!

This one covered a lot of full on topics such as rape, self harm and abortion which could be triggering for some people. Emily is trying to seek justice after an abusive relationship but also trying to move forward with her life. She is trying to keep her past relationship a secret and not be hurt again, but is also trying to find happiness with Justin. A pretty full on but good read.

To say I was disappointed is not to say much. I was taken by the premise of this book. I was taken by the opening chapters... But then it all spiraled down.

After finishing this read I was confused. I was trying to pigenhole this book but failed. What was it trying to be? A mystery, a thriller, a #metoo narrative, an expose... I am still confused.

I remember my MA supervisor telling me: don't try to change the world with your thesis. Pick a small feature and develop it into a topic.... This book was trying to say so much and failed to say anything.

I loved the characters only to see them dissolve. I loved the love story of the main characters only to see it move to the backseat.

The Truth About Unspeakable Things is a story of Emma Marshall coming to terms with her life after experiencing horrific attack by a man she was going to marry.

But this story spears into so many directions it's hard to keep track of. I wanted to enjoy this read, I really did. The setting, New Orlean, was amazing. The characters bios were fun and interesting but...

Still confused.

This was a great thriller and I really enjoyed the story. However, some parts of it were very hard to read, so I'd suggest caution to anyone who can feel triggered by mentions of domestic violence and rape.

It is a harrowing and heartwrenching story and I couldn't help but feel extremely sad as the story went on. Reading the feelings of despair that Emma experiences because of the assault she suffered at the hands of his ex-fiance left me feeling completely devastated for her.

While I truly enjoyed the book, it is a hard read so proceed with caution.

First of all, if you're triggered by domestic violence, rape or the implication of self harm, this book definitely isn't for you. I'm a domestic violence survivor and this book was heart-wrenching. I cried while I read, I held my breath a few times and plunged head first into this riveting first novel by this author. New Orleans is the fabulous setting for a book full of music, art and passion and the underbelly world of rape, domestic violence and brutality. I look forward to more books by this author.
