Told in dual timelines and points of view, we follow a teenage girl in the lead up to her disappearance and a new to the village cozy mystery author a year later.

This was a good mystery focusing on the relationship between a loving mother and daughter but also the secrets kept, no matter how close the relationship is.

Whereas this wasn't the most imaginative mystery I have ever read and not the most thrilling it was a good book as I was reading it and provided enough intrigue to keep me engaged.

I can never resist reading Lisa Jewell's thrillers and this one did not disappoint. Tallulah and her boyfriend go out on a date one evening, leaving their baby at home with Tallulah's mum. They never return. Her mum Kim drives the search for her daughter, especially when the police assume they have run off to get some space as young parents.

The story moves back and forth between past and present as we slowly move towards the night itself to find out what truly happened.

I enjoyed the book - however I did guess what happened quite quickly (which I don't usually manage to do!) and I never truly got attached to any of the characters. I recommend it though if you enjoy fast-paced thrillers.

I enjoy Lisa Jewell’s books and therefore was looking forward to reading this one. I found the switching of timelines slightly confusing but appreciated the depth of characters she had managed to convey. Not all characters were particularly likeable but that is also an enhancement of the intrigue. I found the end a little unbelievable and somewhat contrived but overall I liked the book.

I look forward to every Lisa Jewell book with excitement, and The Night She Disappeared did not disappoint! A teenage couple – nineteen-year-old Tallulah and her boyfriend Zach – go missing one evening after attending a party at a local girl’s house, leaving behind their young baby. Her mother, Kim, is left to pick up the pieces as she searches desperately for her daughter.

Fast forward a year, and Sophie has just moved into the village with her boyfriend, the new Headmaster of the nearby Private school. She meets Kim, becomes intrigued by the case and finds herself involved in trying to work out what happened to Tallulah and Zach last year.

The story is a fairly slow but, I found, very atmospheric novel. There’s not a huge amount of action but Lisa Jewell, as ever, writes in a way that makes you completely absorbed in by what really happened. The story gives flashbacks to the time leading up to Zach and Tallulah’s disappearance as well as the present day, and we see various people’s points of view as we, along with Sophie, try to piece together what happened.

I love the various plot threads that come together as the book goes on, and despite there being a hugely high standard set by Lisa Jewell’s other novels, The Night She Disappeared lives up to them despite the slower pace – I was eagerly turning the pages and found the character development excellent. Highly recommended.

I enjoy Lisa Jewel’s books and this was another good one which kept me turning the pages. It was intriguing and kept me second guessing and although I thought I knew “whodunnit” the events at the end made me gasp! The story built up really well, I liked all the different characters which made the picture of the town/village community very rounded and real in my mind. I raced through this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. I rated it 4.5 stars and would happily recommend it.

Another suspenseful, intriguing, and emotional read by the ever-talented Lisa Jewell. Not a five star read as it was a tad too long and the pacing was a little slow in places, but it was definitely a lot better than last year's release, Invisible Girl. I felt it was a tad too similar to Then She Was Gone (5 stars all the way), but if you haven't read that one, then you would possibly rate this one higher. Still, a cracker read, which I highly recommend.

What can i say that others already haven't??!!

Ive read a few lisa jewell books and found ive enjoyed every one of them, so i was eager to get my hands on this book and was kindly given an early copy of the book.

This book was thrilling from start to finish, so many twists and turns. A fast placed plot with enough character build up/detail to keep you interested but not quite guess the ending. I would recommend anyone who likes a good mystery or thriller to read this.

The Night She Disappeared was wholly engaging and a terrific story, written with skill and despite being a thriller, it didn't stray into the realm of being so far fetched as to be unbelievable. Complex and multi-layered there is a lot going on, but it is a testament to the skill of a good writer, that it never became confusing or laboured to read. Rather, it draws the reader in gradually, introducing characters with just enough detail to become engaged with them, but not too much to become bogged down in unnecessary description.

As with all thrillers it is better to talk less about the plot so as not to spoil anything. But the premise is a young couple with a baby, who go to a party and disappear without trace. When a novelist stumbles across a clue on the grounds of the school where her partner has become the new head, Sophie becomes intrigued and works with the missing girls mother, Kim, to try to figure out the clues left anonymously.

Thoroughly enjoyable, fans of Lisa Jewell will not be disappointed.

It's a given now that Lisa's books are going to be a hit with me and this one was no exception. Not my favourite but still excellent.

2017: Young parents Tallulah and Zach go on a well deserved night out whilst Tallulah's mum Kim looks after their young son. Kim waits for them to come home but they never do. Two years on Kim is still haunted by what happened that night.

2019: Two years later mystery author, Sophie, has moved into the area and comes across a sign saying 'Dig Here' outside her house.

Told across three timelines and from multiple points of view it was a little confusing at times and certainly kept me on my toes but it was a great story from start to finish which I found myself hugely invested in.

Looking forward to her next book already!

Ooh it's been a while since I've read a Lisa Jewell and I'd forgotten how much I enjoy her books!

The Night She Disappeared is a gripping, twisty thriller with a triple timeline and characters that really grab your attention (Scarlett, I'm talking about Scarlett you total crazy babe!)

Yes that's right, a triple timeline. We have 2017 where Tallulah has gone on a date night with Zach, her boyfriend and father of her baby Noah but they haven't returned home. Then we have 2018 where crime fiction writer Sophie has moved into a cottage near by and found a sign in her garden saying Dig Here!

And we have 2016 which shares Tallulah's life pre disappearing and builds a picture of the events leading up to the main event.

It's a gripping thriller. The characters are well developed and the story is mysterious and interesting. It keeps you guessing and keeps you hooked right til the last minute. I had so many different theories and all of them were wrong!

I'd definitely recommend this one as an addictive easy read! Enjoy!

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC copy.

I loved this. I'd recently lost my reading mojo and this got me right back into it. Lisa Jewell never disappoints.

Teenage mum Tallulah goes out one night with on off boyfriend Zach and they never return home. Knowing that Tallulah would never leave baby Noah her mum, Kim, contacts the police to report them missing after frantically contacting all her friends and getting nowhere.

A year later the teenagers disappearance is now a cold case. No new leads and everyone who was at the party at Dark Place has now moved away. Until the town's newest residents move and find a note saying 'dig here'. Headteachers partner Sophie does just that and the mystery starts to unravel.

Going between 2017 and the night of the disappearance to 2018 when the new investigation begins we get to find out all the secrets and lies from those involved until the twist at the end.

Fantastic 5 stars.

Lisa Jewell’s books have complex layers to their storyline. The event that readers read initially is a minute part of a larger story.

In the summer of 2017, Tallulah Murray and her boyfriend Zach Allister go to the local pub for a date, but they never come back. Two teenagers disappeared from Upfield Common without any trace. Kim is devastated that her daughter will never come back. Tallulah and her boyfriend Zach had a baby together, Noah. Kim is raising in the absence of his parents. She wonders what will she ever tell him when he grows up.

Sophie, a writer of Scandinavian mystery novels, moves to Upfield Common with her partner around the late summer of 2018. Her partner, Shaun, is the headteacher of Maypole School, the local school of Upfield Common. When Sophie hears about the disappearance of two kids that rocked the town more than a year back, she gets intrigued. Her inner writer, who writes and solves a mystery for a living, takes precedence. She starts digging around to find out what exactly happened to these kids.

The book spreads over three timelines. In the 2016 timeline, the reader comes to know of Tallulah. The chapters show her relationship with her mother and her son. A young girl is a mother, and when she goes to college, she is the odd one out, given her situation. But she manages well; she is a doting mother and does not mind letting go of the joys of college life for her son. In these chapters, readers will also read about the introduction of Zach and the background of their relationship.

In the 2018 timeline, Sophie comes into the picture and her popularity as a writer. She comes from a different background. Sophie lived in London and loved the vibrant life of the city. Moving to Upfield Common is a step-down but, she is stepping up in her relationship with Shaun. The stress of moving to a new place puts her in weird headspace that stops her from writing. She is trying to figure out to start writing again when she comes across the disappearance case.

The readers read about Kim and her reaction from the timeline in 2017. As a mother, she’s devastated and overwhelmed by the fact she has to raise little Noah herself. She is disappointed that she will never have the chance to see her daughter graduate or be a mother to Noah.

The central theme of the book relates to relationships and abusive behavior. It also revolved around the social disparity between rich and poor, where the rich have the power to dispose of people.

The story is in layers and depicts complex human emotions and situations. There is nothing black and white about them. Jewell can wrap a contemporary social issue in such a way that makes readers think about it.
The book has a small pool of characters which makes it easy to navigate and understand. Each of the characters are well developed and fleshed out. The pace of the plot is perfect. It never slows down for a moment to lose attention.

The book is intriguing. It is easy for readers to place themselves in Sophie’s shoes and starts putting the clues together.

The Night She Disappeared is a psychological thriller that will keep you on your toes until the last page.

My rating for the book is 4 stars.

Thank you, NetGalley and Penguin UK, for the copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review.

Not one of my favourite Lisa Jewell books I'm afraid. Set between 2016 and 2018 I wasn't keen on how it jumped around time-wise. Tallulah and her boyfriend Zach go out for the night leaving baby Noa with Tallulah's mum Kim. However, next morning they have not returned. This book is not very realistic in parts and I was disappointed that the characters were not particularly well developed. On he whole quite disappointing for a Lisa Jewell book.

The Night She Disappeared was my first ever Lisa Jewell book but it absolutely won’t be my last. It had me completely gripped right from the off.

It’s fair to say that any guesses I had about what might have happened to Tallulah were about as wrong as you could get – I had fun trying to work it out though! I was suspicious of pretty much everyone at one point or another, the mark of some great misdirection on the part of the author.

I thought Sophie being a crime writer added a really clever and extra-intriguing dimension to the narrative. It also helped to explain why she decided to get so incredibly embroiled in the mystery.

This is not a particularly short book but it’s paced really well, so I found that I flew through it. If you’re a fan of tense and compelling thrillers, this could be a book for you. With thanks to Century for gifting me an e-copy to review.

A cleverly woven story about every parents worst nightmare, a missing child.

The stories narrative switches smoothly between perspectives, the gut wrenching fear of the mother, the clarity of description from the physical environment to the emotional feelings is outstanding, you can feel the fear and despair as each moment ticks on.
As the narrative moves to the daughter, telling the story that leads up to that fateful night, her feelings and entanglements and the pull she feels in every direction being a young mother, a daughter, a girlfriend and trying to find her footing in the life that has changed so much,, Lisa Jewel connects you to each character.

The story is gripping, a race along read where you try to solve the mystery and hope against hope that the endings good! Your invested in these people, in their lives and in the snap shot story you have of them.

A very enjoyable read full of characters and twists and turns.

This book had the potential to go very wrong and confuse the reader. It has multiple narrators over 3 timelines - the lead up to "the night she disappeared", the immediate aftermath of "the night she disappeared" and a year after "the night she disappeared". However, it worked. And it worked really well. With the different timelines you had a slow start while still knowing that Zach and Tallulah hadn't returned from a night out and the tension and pacing ramped up until the end of the novel where you were flying through chapters.
This was definitely a book that kept you guessing. I read this as a buddy read and the messages were flying backwards and forwards with our opinions of the characters and our possible theories of what had happened. Speaking of opinions of characters, this had some of the most hateful characters ever - by half way through (Probably earlier) I wanted to kill Zach and it wasn't many more chapters before I'd have quite happily bumped off Scarlett as well, both of them evidently took after their mothers cos I'd have no qualms in doing them in either. Not to give too much of the story away but there were times that I felt Tallulah was like a toy being fought over by 2 small children.
What I really liked was that there were enough clues throughout to give you a good idea of what happened without it being obvious. I did feel like when I got to the end, the revelation wasn't a shock and it kind of felt inevitable. There was enough happened that you didn't know exactly how it would end but you knew what the overall situation would be.
