Another great Jeffrey Archer story. Good characters, exciting story lines and very difficult to put down!

I deliberately avoided books by Archer for at least two decades. I didn’t like his politics or some of his actions which caused him to end up in jail. But I picked up the first of the Clifton chronicles about five years ago and read the entire series back to back. Whatever I think of his shortcomings, I have to acknowledge that he’s a remarkable storyteller. One who knows exactly how to construct plot, people, pace and weave in adventure, romance, intrigue and some facts to deliver a totally blistering story.

I’ve read the other Warwick books and this picks up on former characters. It works well as a standalone, but you’ll miss some of the nuances and character development. Archer’s skill lies in his ability to create spellbinding stories. In some ways they may appear formulaic, but he absolutely delivers with every book…and I’ve read them all, including his collections of short stories. Literary snobs are unlikely to give him the credit he deserves but for me, any author who can take me to a different place, totally absorbed in a story and involved in the characters deserves credit. Over My Dead Body brought a transatlantic crossing to life, along with the wheeler dealing art world, visited before, in a way that kept me turning the pages. Archer has created a likeable and engaging character in Warwick. He’s clever, thoughtful, personable and occasionally inspired. Simply brilliant storytelling.

My thanks to the publisher for a review copy via Netgalley.

I don't know how he does it, but the author's creativity sparkles through the interweaving multiple plot lines in this novel.

It's thrilling, it's mysterious, and leaves the reader wanting to read increasingly more. The climax of the book was similarly fast-paced and there's the right blend of intrigue along with the certainty of purpose.

I'm uncertain of the choirboy or caveman allegory of the detective, it could possibly develop into something a little more subtle. But don't get me wrong, this is another fantastic book by Archer and I'm already anticipating the next in the series. First-class!

It’s been quite a while since I last read a Jeffrey Archer book, so I find myself with a little catching up to do! I hadn’t realised that this book was the latest in the William Warwick series when NetGalley kindly gave permission for me to read it, so I need to go back and find them, because I really enjoyed this. I love the way Jeffrey Archer doesn’t need to use expletives to get his messages across and that his characters are almost old fashioned in their courtesy and manners. There are clever twists and intrigue and good eventually prevails, even if the end is reached by unusual means. There are lively sub plots, but it all comes together to leave the reader satisfied. Not a challenging read, but an enjoyable one.

I soon realised after I started this book it was the fourth in the series. I haven't read the first 3 and i think to fully enjoy this book, and series, it is necessary.

The book itself though was well written and had lots of twists and turns. I have not read a book by this author before but after reading this I will.

Not my favourite Jeffrey Archer book. It was reasonably enjoyable but sometimes lacked attention to detail which I find annoying. As an example a Ryanair flight from Heathrow when Ryanair don't operate from Heathrow and flying first class on BA on a European flight when again, no first class in short hail flights. A bit of a disappointing book to me.

Over My Dead Body by Jeffrey Archer is the 4th book in the William Warwick series.
In short, now part of the new Unsolved Murder Unit, DCI William Warwick and ex undercover operative Ross Hogan and their team are tasked with catching the criminals nobody else can and it soon becomes personal.
It’s another fast paced and thrilling book crammed full of dodgy characters and brutal crimes which need to be investigated and the perpetrators punished in this classic Jeffery Archer thriller starring DCI William Warwick.
Warwick’s mantra is ‘listen, listen, listen’…I say ‘read, read, read’, you won’t be disappointed. I’m already looking forward to reading the next book & I’m hoping young James will be part of that story.
Big thanks to Jeffery Archer, HarperCollins UK, Harper Fiction and NetGalley for this eARC which I chose to read in return for my honest review.

Haven't read a Jeffrey Archer novel for some years, so was looking forward to renewing acquaintance. Reasonable plot and characters, but felt that style of writing was somewhat amateurish. Sorry, but not my favourite

William Wallace is back and is running around the world again. I was hoping that the book would not leave on a cliff hanger but of course if it didn't then it wouldn't be an Archer book. Enjoyed the story and I guess Ill be keeping my eyes peeled for the next instalment!

This is the fourth book in the William Warwick series, and I would suggest reading them from the start to understand all of the back story and interwoven cases. In fact the William Warwick series is a spin off from the hugely successful, incredible 5 star Clifton Chronicles series. In classic Archer style, the Warwick series is an involved family saga following William Warwick’s progress from police training through his career with Scotland Yard.

In this book we revisit Warwick’s nemesis Miles Faulkner from previous books, whilst also being introduced to new cold cases for Warwick’s team to tackle. The characterisation in Archer’s books is second to none, and his books are always extremely readable and relatable. I look forward to the next classic from his pen!

With thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I’m afraid when I requested this book I hadn’t realised that there were 3 prior novels in the series. Sometimes this doesn’t matter as the plot and story can be read as a stand-alone but it was the case here. DCI Warwick had far too much history that would be known if previous novels had been read and the characters and dialogue relied on this. It left me confused and I felt at times that I had joined the novel part way through. I have read so many of Jeffrey Archers earlier novels and loved them all, but I’m afraid I found this one difficult to enjoy as all the characters seemed too removed from reality and I read it feeling slightly patronised by the superior manner of the writing style.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a preview copy of this book.

Even though this is the fourth Jeffrey Archer novel in the William Warwick series, this was my first. Unfortunately, this created a little confusion in the beginnings of this novel - but I persisted and was truly glad that I did. A terrific story, being suspenseful, absorbing and truly a page turner. Here, DCI Warwick investigates the case of millionaire art dealer Miles Faulkner who was previously thought dead, though his unscrupulous lawyer continues to represent him. Warwick is paired with ex-undercover operative Ross Hogan who has his own way of doing things. This gives us a thrilling ride that has plenty going on and was gripping to the end. Highly recommended. Many thanks to HarperCollins UK and Netgalley for the read.

Wow!! What a novel loved it! It is un- putdownable found myself awake into the early hours reading this- kept thinking just one more chapter! Following William and his nemesis Faulkner (who is supposed to be dead) along with other cold cases he has been assigned to clear up. Just how do they all connect or do they?? Will definitely be looking for more in this series of novels
Could be made into a tv drama would love to see it!

Many thanks to Net galley for letting me read this novel will be most definitely recommending it to everyone I know.

There is always a problem when you read a new book by an author you love. Will it live up to expectation? Reviewing can be hard. I loved this book because of the characters I had met before, particularly Detective Sergeant Warwick. This book is the fourth in the series of the William Warwick novels. I did enjoy the book but not as much as the Clifton Chronicles and there lies the problem. I am trying not to compare, yes this book kept me gripped and was always a pleasure to pick up. Archer is such a great story teller I like his style, perhaps a more traditional approach. I read for pleasure, for entertainment and to open my eyes. This book ticked all the boxes and gave me a bit of excitement along the way.
I am just waiting for the next book now.

I have really enjoyed Jeffrey Archer books in the past from the early ones to the more recent ones. So when I saw this book listed on NetGalley, I requested it without really checking out the details. I didn't realise it was number 4 in a series.

The series features Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick and a millionaire art collector Miles Faulkner, who is supposed to be dead! There are multiple settings and sub plots to keep your interest and provide plenty of twists and turns. But to be honest I found it all extremely far fetched, upper class, and a little bit irritating. I did finish it and I think, on reflection, I would have enjoyed it more if I had read all of the series (my mistake). It's a shame - I loved the Clifton Chronicles and the stand alone novel Heads You Win was extraordinarily good, but this one was just average.

Thank you to NetGalley for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I found Archer through my mother many years ago. I have always found him to be entertaining, easy to read and his books are usually written at a fast pace. Over my dead body is no different. Archer always plans out his plots efficiently and this book makes for an entertaining read.

Over my dead body is actually number four in the William Warwick series. Now normally I would have read the first three. And to be honest I wish I had. I found the story quite confusing at times and conclude had I read the previous three I wouldn't have experienced the same confusion.

I found the many characters at times confusing. Some characters seemed essential and others not so much. It gave an image of a jumble sale. You're going to find something interesting eventually. However the story line was quite impressive.

Yes, I would recommend this book. I've given it 3 stars. Maybe that will change after I've read the first three. I'll let you know.

Enjoy!

Over my dead Body is book four in the William Warwick series. I went into this book having not read book one to three and I would honestly suggest that if you are looking at reading this book that you do read books one to three because I’m not going to lie I was confused.

I would normally do a brief summary of the book but to be honest with you I actually have no idea how to sum this book up because I honestly feel like so much happened and so many people involved but I’m not even sure how to sum It up into one Paragraph.
What I can say is although it is the William Warwick series that is a multitude of people who are involved in this book. As this book started with them on a boat I kind of expected it to stay with them on a boat oh how wrong I was. To be honest with you they were barely actually on the boat which kind of made me even more confused as I was reading. However there clearly was a back story in relation to your own escape prisoner and that is the main focus of this book. So when William has his suspicions that this prisoner is not dead he wants to track him down and he wants to get him back to prison.
As their team is a team that is also investigating cold cases there are three cases that are being on parallel which are under investigation with the team.

I must say about 40% into the book I was like oh I’m really getting into this but I am absolutely hurt I was loving it an eye for we were coming near to the end because it really felt like a natural place for a book to end. However I was incorrect and I must say I was happy to be incorrect because the latter part of this book was actually the best part of this book. It is a very long book and it did take me several sittings to read it but once it was completed I must say I did enjoy it and I am looking to go back and familiarise myself with the characters.

Because so much happened in this book it’s just so hard to actually write a review because I really don’t know what the important elements of this book are because they all seems very important. Therefore what I will say is this is a fantastic crime series and I absolutely love Ross. He may not be the focus of this series but he was the focus of my reading I absolutely love everything this man stands for and if he doesn’t get his own series he should although he is clearly part of this series so I will settle for that. Is interesting to read a book like this which is so different in a sense that it doesn’t just take place within a certain number of weeks this case is actually something that spans over at least nine months by the way it reads. Therefore I actually felt more attached to the case and the characters.
How often do we read Chrome books in the lead detective gets caught up in the crime somehow they get kidnapped or they get killed or actually they often don’t get killed but if you read a lot of crime fiction you know what I mean. And actually what I really liked about this book is it really felt like when the personal life of the officers is brought into the story it actually feels relevant and it doesn’t feel so left field like often it can do in crime fiction and I think this is something that Jeffrey Archer does fantastically well and bravo.

In summary I enjoyed this book I would recommend it I would suggest reading the earlier books before starting this book though. Maybe if I had read but it’s one to free prior I might have find more attachment to these characters an earlier stage in a story. I will be going back I’m reading books one to three because I really enjoyed this book. I’m I’m writing it three stars an mainly because I felt there was a lot of stuff at the beginning of the book that was “fluff”. But maybe once I’ve read the first three books my rating mightchange as I may have a stronger connection with the characters.

Thank you to netgalley, Jeffrey Archer and the publishers for the digital advance copy of even my dead body in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.

I absolutely love Jeffrey Archer's books so was really looking forward to this one.
Hate to say it but it wasn't for me this time.
I found it a bit 'Miss Marple' so too twee for me I'm afraid. It's a far cry from books like 'Not a Penny More' which is one of my all time favourites.
Really pleased to note that everyone disagrees with me though!

The latest book in the DI William Warwick series does not disappoint. Like others in the series this is a really fast-paced and enjoyable read with plenty of twists and turns along the way.

We continue to see William and his team searching to find his nemesis, Miles Faulkner, and bring him back to justice, and along the way having to deal with his Lawyer, Booth Watson, who seems to confound him every step of the way. Jeffrey Archer does have a way to create some dastardly characters who foil his heroes, and you end up jeering at. Beware there is one point in the book where it leads to tears!

If anything, whilst I enjoyed this one, I was disappointed that his sister, Grace, and his father didn’t play a more prominent role in this one and missed the court room scenes of others in the series, these have always been a highlight for me.

If you haven’t read this series then I do recommend them to you, but I strongly suggest you start with the first book in the series, Nothing Ventured, if you are to get the most out of this series.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for providing a copy of this book for me, for an an open and honest review.
