I was looking forward to reading this, but I have tried multiple times and multiple ways to download this to read, and it will not open for me - it is not showing up on my Netgalley shelf app, and it won't download to my phone or computer. It also will not send to my kindle. Wish I could read it!

This was a quick read as I read it in one sitting. I enjoyed more than I expected, but I did find it wasn’t amazing enough to be 4 or 5 stars.

It’s set in a cursed world where you die after meeting your soulmate, and it followed a girl who’s been hired by the king to kill his soulmate in order for him to live forever. However on her journey her feelings change and she becomes conflicted on what to do. How do you follow your heart when it’s broken?

I really liked the art style, it was bright and colourful but also matched the vibe of the story. I also found the layout to be great; sometimes graphic novels can get a bit confusing as to what order to read the text in but this was set out in an easy to understand structure so I never got confused.

The characters were also fairly likeable, but they all had their flaws which helped keep them grounded and not too unrealistic. The main relationship is also mlm which was nice rep. One of the men is bi and the other isnt specified. It was very casual, like them liking a man was just as normal as them liking a woman. Which I really appreciated as that’s how society should see us: equal, not different.

My only negative point would be that the focus on Psyche’s sister felt a bit out of place at points, like I understand it’s purpose within the story but I didn’t think the back and forth of scenes was always necessary.

Overall though it was an entertaining graphic novel with a unique storyline.

This was a fun story! The plot was very interesting and the artwork was a perfect match. I believe that this book would be perfect for YA readers who love fansaty.

A really good premise and read! Something that every comic nerd should check out! The description was the first thing that got me into it. And once I started reading it was hard to put down. Amazing work!

This graphic novel had a really unique concept, and perspective on love and relationships we form. It was refreshing to read and very enjoyable. The artwork was beautiful, and created such a detailed and immersive world that would be a great anime or child's cartoon.

There were so many finer details in the artwork that added so much depth to the story and elevated it to more than just an assasin in a comic book, trying to kill the king's soulmate so that he can live forever.

There were a few graphic scenes and moments where the topics became heavier, so definitely be aware that there is mention of death.

Overall, I enjoyed this a lot, and it has definitely become one of my favourite graphic novels I have read this year.

Great graphic novel, I love the idea of the story so much. The art work is amazing, I really loved colors because they are so powerful and intense. I really liked the characters but I wanted more characterization.

This comic had a fascinating story set on a cursed, far-off island where people's hearts exist outside their bodies and are basically immortal until they find their soulmate and they can leave the island. Some do want to live forever and employ assassins to destroy their soulmate's heart. The heroine is one such assassin and the king has set her out to kill his soulmate.

I enjoyed the meditation on soulmates, broken hearts, and immortality--the book gave examples of different situations and it was interesting to put yourself in those people's lives. The art style really helped situate the world in that sort of nebulous medieval-ish world and I loved the different renderings of people's hearts and how they reflected their owners.

The Heart Hunter written by Mickey George and illustrated by V. Gagnon follows the story of a girl whose island has been cursed.

The artwork in this graphic novel was completely flawless, the novel was filled with a range of beautiful colours and graphic layouts, each varying in size and shape which in my opinion added to each page.

The story was metaphorical and symbolic, in such a beautiful way. The strong metaphorical phrasing and plot line made me feel such strong emotions, involving love, grief and friendship. This was a beautiful graphic novel about appreciating the limited time we have with our loved ones and how we should cherish each moment we spend.

I would like to start off with im very grateful for the opportunity to have read this in exchange for an honest review. because this was definitely worth the read!! I’ve always been a keep to myself sort of loner but when I read in the lines of how we have the freedom to choose our soulmates, and inner work is definitely very important… mind blown. Makes me want to go search for a lover and go work on self love some more. The graphics as well were amazing, the story was executed so well too. If I could go back in time to reread this book for the first time again I definitely would, over and over again.

Dare I say that this is my favorite graphic novel(?)/comic(?) in a while. I was long overdue for a good and engaging story like this in the form of a comic. I loved it.

It's very cleverly executed. The writer uses feelings and trauma and intangible concepts in very interesting ways and there also a lot of play on words which I'm always a real sucker for. I also really enjoyed the personifications of Death and Time, and their role in the story.

It has great rep going on too! Very important.

However I thought that parts were a little confusingly drawn, or maybe the issue was with the information given in the word balloons/narrative blocks... I don't know. But it hindered the experience some when I had to stop and try to figure out what I was meant to understand from certain pages/panels.

I will also say that people should approach with caution. It deals with some particularly tough topics: grief and neglect for yourself and suicide and euthanasia. (The last is how I took that plotline, at least, other people's opinions may vary.) Plus, if you're squeamish, be aware you'll be seeing medically drawn hearts in all sorts of states: bloody and split apart and various objects shoved through them.

Highly recommend!

This was hard to get as a PDF as as for that i couldnt read this. due to this trouble I felt it sounds good but unfortunately I couldn't access the book.

Be still my beating heart. Did this break my heart and put it back together again? Absolutely. I ate this up, okay? I can’t quite express how this book gave me exactly what I needed at the time of reading it. (Reading this the day before the anniversary of my little sister’s death became a coping mechanism for my broken heart. If you know, you know.)

I really enjoyed every single aspect about this book/graphic novel, but my favorite thing was the diversity of the soulmates themselves (especially the platonic ones).

This art style was everything to me. I think it perfectly matches the story and effectively brings the characters to life.

11/10 highly recommend.

The heart hunter has a very new and amazing premises , the world building and art were so brilliantly done .
Psyche as a character was amazing and I love the journey they went .
I definitely would love to see more of this world and characters related <3

The concept was really cool!! I loved the illustrations and the plot overall. Definitely recommend.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4! I loved the storyline and the characters were likeable, but unfortunately I just didn’t jive with the art style and I found it confusing to follow at times (specifically when there were multiple panels without any words to convey what was happening). I really liked the idea though and I thought it was super cute that the author used metaphors such as “bleeding heart” and “heart on your sleeve” to inspire characters.

I was instantly intrigued by the synopsis of this book. The art was amazing! This author did amazing. I loved the story and the plot of this graphic novel! I highly recommend.

This was an interesting reading. I really liked the plot but I would have enoyed it better if the narrative and panels weren't messy. I got confused at some times. I did understand the general plot but as I said before, the panels were all around the page and I got lost. I've got enough experience at reading comics and I've never felt like this reading one. I don't know if this is because this is a debut comic.

The illustrations were really nice, but I wasn't convinced with the artist choice of colors wich made me confused.

I really liked the characters. I'm pretty sure that Pyche is aro-ace and I'm so glad to find a character like me in a graphic novel.
We also have a canon no binary character, Jez. Also bi and gay representation.

I recommend this and I look forward to reading more of these authors.

Premise:
The soulmates we've been hearing about are real in twisted ways, in the land of Envecor, your heart beats outside your chest and you're immortal, until you find your soulmate and get bonded. After exchanging your hearts and place it in your chests, you have to move into the mortal world. And if you won't, you'd suffer for staying in an immortal world with your mortality with immense pain. Many people spend their lives trying to find their soulmates, some hire the heart hunters, the ones with broken hearts, to kill their soulmates, to stay immortal.
The King, Marius, hires the first heart hunter, Psyche, to kill his soulmate, who somehow always escapes the clutches of his death. Marius presumes he is the heart mender, for every heart hunter sent to kill him had gold present in their hearts, and a fixed heart meant a new soulmate.
Hence, starts the journey of getting through personal fears, and doubts, and trying to resolve the problems.

Review:

The illustrations were incredibly well-done, especially when the book ends and how Mickey explains the significance of certain illustrations, the parallels drawn to enrich your reading experience, to give in a deeper depth to the characters. The alternate cover is simply beautiful.

The characters, Psyche, is strong but broken enough to not show vulnerability. She has her own demons and had been avoiding them since so long yet they just never leave her. Maybe confronting them is the only way to let them go.
Marius, is cunning and lonely, and an idealist, he was inventing stuff before the immortality curse, and now he wants to change Envecor because he believes there's no escape from there now and he is the only one who could bring change.
Issac, what a beautiful character. I loved him. He had an innocence, and kindness one finds rarely, his empathy precedes him. He is kind and caring and forgiving.
Other characters have their moments and lend their support to the book.

The book deals with the questions regarding love usually people don't pry into, what if your soulmate isn't the one you love? How to deal with loss? How to love again with a broken heart? Should vulnerability be hidden? Can death of a loved one take away your courage to love, or at times, you ability to love to?

In all, it was a great comic, and I'd recommend it to anyone who wishes to see a different story on the concept of soulmates.
