One of the Girls is THE thriller of 2022. Perfect for a summer beach read. When six girls go on a hen weekend to a Greek island to celebrate Lexi's upcoming wedding, they definitely don't expect dark secrets to threaten their luxurious trip. And they definitely don't expect one of them to end up dead! This unpredictable, suspenseful thriller will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Highly recommended!

This was a good book and for the most part I enjoyed it and got stuck into it. Now for my issues. There were a few repetitions within sentences (rookie mistake) and sometimes from one paragraph to the next. Also, one particular part of the story was very very similar to a popular star studded American drama (no spoilers) so wasn't very original. However, it ended nicely and I would read another by this author.

One of the Girls by Lucy Clarke was a fascinating and entertaining read about a hen party on a Greek island. When you think of hen parties you tend to groan and think wine, drinks games and silly drunken moments. In this story there was a flow to the book that had interesting characters, secrets and lies and a back story that all came together in that last evening.
I really enjoyed reading this book.

In short, six friends spend a hen weekend on a beautiful Greek island which ends up unraveling into life changing events.
This is such a juicy read as you become familiar with each hen’s interesting and tangled back story. I was totally immersed as they struggled to come to terms with their pasts and ‘what if’s’ yet each determined to enjoy the hen weekend on a glorious Greek island…and you just know it’s all going to get messy! It’s a hen party with a whopping emotional punch!

Oh Lucy Clarke, you’ve done it again! What an excellent book, a total page turner.
Told from each character’s perspective and with an added mystery voice, this book has a very clever plot, beautiful and concise descriptions of the Greek island where the story takes place and unexpected, perfectly timed reveals.
I’ve read and enjoyed other books by this author and this was also brilliant, no hesitation in recommending it.

A hen weekend in Greece and the usual thing where there is one who is the loudest, who wants to the “best friend”, the most popular, taking over the whole event. This happened here. And when there was a death, I immediately presumed, assumed…but I got it wrong!

A great read, not at all what I expected! I would rate it 4 stars.

For me, this book got better and better as it went along. Although very easy to read, and probably a perfect summer read that you can drop in and out of without any trouble, I found it a touch superficial and box ticking to begin with. However, as I read on and started to connect with the characters, I engaged and enjoyed it more, and, ultimately couldn't wait to reach the conclusion, which I found totally satisfying. Not high art, but a very entertaining read and does exactly what I'd want a book of this sort to do

I loved The Castaways by Lucy Clarke so was looking forward to this!
This took me a while to get into and to get a handle on the characters and the POVs. The two narrators do a good job, although the different POVs would have been more distinctive if each character had it's own narrator. I did find it rather confusing that only two narrators were used, but each chapter had a different POV!
That being said, the plot was fabulous, and the ending was superb. All the threads and characters connected wonderfully, and I do love a good denouement!
This only took me 4 days to listen to, so that shows how much I enjoyed it!
Another great novel by Clarke, I look forward to her next one!

A story about love and loss, and the power of female friendship

The perfect holiday read, set on a fictional Greek island. A group of girls, on a hen trip, which slowly unravels. The characters were well written and believable, and grew on me. Add a few twists and turns, and you have a really good read!

One of the Girls is a twisty multiple perspective thriller that will leave you guessing right up until the very end. You know from the first chapter of the book that a group of women are abroad for a hen party and that someone doesn't survive the weekend. You even know what colour clothing is involved in the death. As you read further through the book you discover that these women have more secrets than you could ever imagine. Many of these secrets link to the other women in ways you could never begin to imagine. I absolutely adored how the characters in this book would be linked together in weird yet believable ways. The twisty complexity of this story literally blew me away.

I found myself both hating and loving most of the women throughout the book. One or two of them come across as particularly terrible people, yet I still routed for them and hoped they wouldn't be the one to end up dead. This is an excellent sign of just how wonderfully the author wrote these characters. The multiple perspectives allowed you to really get inside each of the women's heads in such a way that enables the reader to have such an excellent overview of everyones thought processes and motives.

This book was a little difficult to get into at times due to it being overwhelming trying to keep track of who is who with the constant perspective changes. It is well worth the effort though as once you feel grounded in the story this is an addictive and compelling read. I also dare to promise you that you will never predict the ending!

Enjoyable page turner, perfect for holidays. The characters are convincing, flawed and not always likeable. Their different dynamics keep things interesting – anyone who has ever been on a hen weekend will recognise the different archetypes and behaviour. Keeps twisting and turning right to the end. I’ll definitely read more Lucy Clarke.

This book is set around a hen celebration in a remote home in Greece, and as the story progresses we learn more about the girls and their relationships with each other. Bella and Lexi have known each other the longest. I read to 33% of the book before acknowledging that I could not bear to read any more about Bella, the most self - centred character I've read about in a long time. Her behaviour seems completely juvenile and whilst this demonstrates the high standard of the author's descriptive skills I find it unbelievable that anyone would stay friends with her.
I didn't like the characters but they are well-drawn and I'm sure other readers will enjoy reading the book to its conclusion.

One of the Girls starts by letting you know that something has gone horribly wrong and someone has lost their life. The story then plays out of Lexi and five friends on a hen party in Greece. I loved that each lady has her own chapter so you focus just on their side of the story for a few pages. The short chapters make it a fast paced read, as you learn more about the friends you feel that it could be any of them that are the victim or caused the death and you are kept guessing until the very end.

A great holiday read, the backdrop of the Greece and the Villa are like another character in the story.

Really enjoyed this book, good characters who grew during the story, excellent location, a Greek island and you really felt that you were there with them. Then the story, lots of twists and turns and an unexpected ending!

Lucy Clarke has done it again! Without fail, she reels a reader in, wraps them around her chapters and spits them out at the end confused, bereft and utterly amazed by her writing talent. One of the Girls is in development to be on the big screen and this is one of those books that just HAS to play out visually. The setting, the characters, the secrets… Lucy writes beautifully and her books are always a treat. Seeing them come to life will be so spectacular.

It’s all the best bits of a beach read (sun, sea, romance…) with all the gripping bits of a psychological thriller (secrets, murder, tension). Genres collide with this book to create something almost by its own unique definition. The slow start is not a negative – it gives space for getting to know the setting and the characters ready for the big unravelling. You’ll be running on adrenalin by the last few pages!

If you're looking for a fast paced story with plenty of twists, look no further.

Every person on the hen weekend is hiding something. And yes, it's all a bit far fetched and over the top. But sometimes, it's just what the doctor ordered. Short chapters, plenty of action, and nothing too taxing makes this the ideal summer read.
