Maybe this Christmas is the last book in the series about the O'Neil brothers. This book focuses on ex-downhill skier Tyler, who suffering from injury has returned home to the family business and has recently taken in his teenage daughter, Jess. Due to overcrowding at the resort where they all live and work, Tyler's best friend, Brenna, ends up moving in with him and Jess over Christmas. The problem is that Brenna has been in love with Tyler since they were teenagers and Tyler is fighting his attraction to Brenna so that they can remain friends.
First of all, I would like to state that I generally adore books by Sarah Morgan; she is one of my favourite romance writers and I was so excited to read this book. That being said, I struggled a lot with this book. I don't know if it was just the weight of expectation or because this book is the last in a series, where things need to be wrapped up, but most of this book was just slow. It took so long to get going with the actual story and over half of the first part of the story is just Brenna and Tyler going on about how much they like each other, but can't tell each other, which is not that interesting to read. I actually started reading it back last year and then ended up putting it down for eight months in between. It wasn't really until about 70% through that the romance and the story with it started to pick up pace. Once I got to that point, I really enjoyed the last part of the story, but it felt like a shame that the first part felt quite laborious to read through to get to the fun and interesting part of the plot. Mostly, I enjoyed reading about the relationship between Tyler and his estranged daughter, Jess, and I thought that that was a nice meaty subplot to the main romance.
Some nice romance moments, but it takes a while to get into. 3 stars.
