When is a house sitter just a house sitter?

If you’re not sure on this story, bear with it…. The development of the storyline is gradual but then the pace quickens and the story really gets going and your mind booked on how deadly can this innocent house-sitting really become. Well, I can tell you now, thank goodness for nosey and interfering neighbours, if not this story could’ve taken a more sinister turn.
Individual women go missing after being seen on a date with Julian, a super hot man who owns the penthouse in a block of stunning apartment - naturally he is suspected in their disappearances.
When an inconvenient power outage in the apartment block opposite leaves Nina, the house sitter, craving for cooler air outside on the balcony she’s grabs a pair of binoculars and notices something that sets her nerves on edge.
Surprisingly she isn’t only one with binoculars out on the balcony watching, the nosey neighbour below Julian, Leonard is also looking around and notices Nina opposite also having a nosey in other apartment.
Is her evenings actions going to cause her any repercussions and put her in danger or is her conscience clear….

Thank you for the advance reader copy of the house sitter. This is the first book I've read by this author and I've since read two more. I'm really enjoying her stories and recommend her if you like quick thrillers.

Nina Fairchild, 35, is a freelance editor. When her longtime boyfriend, Michael, proposed to her, she declined saying that she honestly doesn’t love him enough to marry him. Now, she has moved into her brother’s apartment to take care of his cat while he and his partner are out of the country for a while.

The first night there, she loses electricity and decides to sit on the balcony. Grabbing her binoculars, she sees a man across the street forcing a woman to have sex on the balcony. Shocked, she then realizes another man one floor below is watching her with his binoculars. Embarrassed, she goes inside.

The next day, the owner of the apartment she is staying in has returned. Nina has known him all her life as he and her brother have always been friends. He agrees for her to stay there until she can find another rental.

When a woman is found dead, the picture is the same woman that Nina saw being raped on that man’s balcony. She realizes she has to call the police who then investigate it.

The man who raped her is Julian, the son of a wealthy real estate man. He had once been charged with murder of another woman but was cleared. Now he gets frantic knowing someone saw him on the balcony.

Nina is determined to show that Julian is a murderer and will not rest until she can prove it. Thus, she becomes entangled in a a very frightening situation from which she may not survive.

This is another terrific thriller by an expert author who knows how to ramp up the suspense. There are a lot of scary and dark situations in this book that left me literally breathless. I was very surprised by the ending. Enjoy!

The House Sitter by Keri Beevis was very well written. While I did guess the culprit, the author did a great job of presenting other viable suspects and scenarios. It seems everyone has something to hide. There are some nosy people, some amateur sleuthing, missing women and some romance. I hated to put it down and was eager to return to the story.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I have to admit it took me quite a bit of time to get into this book after reading the prologue. This was no fault to the author, I’m just not used to reading in 3rd person. It was different getting use to how English is worded in the UK as well. That being said, I was rooting for Nina to figure everything out. Though she didn’t know who to trust beside Zac, and with their history she questioned that as well. After breaking off her engagement, Nina house sits for her brother while he travels Hong Kong. But the first night, there’s a power outage and she sets out on the balcony with a pair of binoculars trying to figure out the cause behind the power outage. She witnesses something across the road on another balcony. But as she’s spying, someone is spying on her. All the characters were great, including Julian, Leonard, Tabitha, Conrad, Zac and all the others who played a pivotal role in this story unfolding. By the time I thought I had everything figured out, Keri threw us another curveball and I was back at square one trying to figure out who done it. There were a ton of twists, suspense, shocking revelations and the epilogue wrapped everything up with life after it all. A good read!

WoW. . . . . . . . . The House Sitter by Keri Beevis was another excellent book from start to finish and a great page turner which makes it a great holiday read or a book to get away from everything - for your day off.
I loved reading it through the different characters' perspectives which made it very enjoyable.

The House Sitter by Keri Beevis is another compelling read from the author, and it is almost guaranteed to keep you guessing until the very end.

Nina is housesitting for her brother when she notices unusual activity in the penthouse of the building opposite. Something doesn't seem right in the exchange between the couple she is observing. When the woman goes missing, Nina begins to question if she should get involved and, if so, how far she is willing to go in the pursuit of the truth.

Keri Beevis can always be relied upon to provide a heart racing pageturner, and her latest is no exception.

This is a chilling psychological thriller. The protagonist, Nina, is taking care of her brother's apartment whilst he's away. Nina makes an observation from the balcony, and when a woman is reported missing, she realises that it may be important, but will anyone believe her?

This book played with my head, as it made me think about the observations of others. When we observe other people, we may make assumptions, or draw conclusions, based on what we have seen. I felt the storyline was realistic, in a chilling kind of way, and the characters felt real to me as well. I wasn't sure which characters to trust, if any, but they all intrigued me in some way or another.

The writing actually reminded me a little of a Ruth Rendell book, and she's a favourite author of mine. If you're looking for a thriller that will keep you guessing, give this a try.

Throughout the whole book it felt more like a romance then thriller. However, it was still interesting, even though you think you know who was the psycho from the beginning. But the more you read, the more you suspect someone else - as per usual. At the end, I didn't expect the twist. With every page I was like "No, they didn't do it, they are helping her." But as it turned out, I was wrong and I was surprised with the plot twist. But to draw a line, it was an average thriller book for me, nothing special.

Keri Beevis is a master of tension, intrigue, and twists, and The House Sitter did not disappoint. When Nina.house sits for her brother and accidentally spies on the neighbour's dodgy shenanigans, she doesn't expect to end up involved in a terrifying ordeal. It's a classic but great premise of accidentally witnessing a crime and dealing with the aftermath. There are moral dilemmas, amateur sleuthing, dark deeds and a whole heap of questions. The book jad me guessing and questioning the whole time, and the pacing and tension were fabulous. There's a host of deliciously flawed characters all fully formed with plenty to keep you guessing about. There was also Nina's domestic upheaval and relationship crises to keep you interested and invested in the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and, as usual, can't wait for the next one!

This book was entertaining, had interesting characters, and did keep my attention. Here are my thoughts in more detail:

Pros:
There weren’t too many flashbacks, no time jumps that I remember. Although time jumps do serve a purpose sometimes, it’s nice to read a book that sticks to a more linear narrative.
There weren’t any truly insufferable characters, no villains so villainous that it took the pleasure out of reading.
The final ending where we see how everyone ended up was not so predictable. Whereas some authors would have had Nina and Zack married or engaged by the end, this one has them still sort of feeling things out in the context of a romantic relationship. In other words, it’s a more realistic ending for the main characters instead of the typical fairytale ending, which I also appreciated.

Cons:
I did start to suspect Tabitha at some point. Other than that though, I can’t think of anything.

Good book, quick read. I would read another book by this author.

The House Sitter by Keri Beevis is a dark and suspenseful thriller that has Rear Window vibes and is perfect for fans of Claire McGowan, Natasha Boydell, and Lisa Jewell.

Nina has just ended things with her long term boyfriend, so when her brother needs a housesitter for his apartment, Nina readily agrees. Thinking that this is a chance to get a little r&r and get away from her life for a bit, Nina is ready to unwind. But when the power goes out Nina makes the most out of the balcony and fresh air. Using her brother's binoculars, she peeks in at the neighbors. Across the way Nina sees a man and a woman and likes the voyeuristic thrill it gives her to watch them without their knowledge. That might come back to haunt her though when a week later she sees that same woman again on the news. She's missing. When Nina tells the police what she saw she is shocked to learn that the man denies having the missing woman over that night and has an alibi. Determined to find the truth, Nina is horrified when she learns that there is more than one woman missing. What exactly has Nina stumbled upon, and has she put herself in danger?

What a wild ride!! The twists, turns and suspense kept me engaged and I flew through this book in no time at all!! The characters were all well written and fully developed and I loved the multiple POVs. I really think that Beevis took a familiar trope and elevated it, yes it has Hitchcock similarities, but it is also wholly original and I highly recommend checking it out!!

It's been a while, but the Beev is back with another ticks all the boxes thriller!

The House Sitter is fast, gripping and from the prologue alone it had me hooked! The twists had me wanting more and more, and that final blow just blew me away! It left me shooketh!

You won't believe what's going on behind the doors of River Heights! While I didn't get it right, I did enjoy playing detective alongside Nina.

My new new favourite book by Beevis!!

I think it is safe to say that Keri Beevis' books are on my 'insta-read' list. The House Sitter did not disappoint, and mind you, I have started to expect quite a bit from Keri!

My only problem (and this is fully the reader's issue, i.e. me), is that there was a lot of names to remember. It did take me a bit to remember who is who.

Nina is housesitting for her brother and she inadvertently spies on the neighbours one night. She sees a man and woman together, later the woman is reported as missing. Julian, the man Nina saw, was previously accused of murder. Could he have struck again?
Nina tries to uncover the truth, putting herself in danger in the process.

Tension builds slowly through the first half of this book. As the truth gradually came to light, I was gripped and couldn't put the book down. There was an intriguing cast of characters each with their own secrets to hide.

Yet again Keri Beevis has written an unputdownable and page turning psychological thriller that had me captivated from the very start. I’ve only recently started reading this author and her talent for writing superb thrillers is amazing. I was only a few pages in when I knew that this book was going to be one of those that I’d struggle to put down. Of course I knew fairly early on who the culprit was and I was convinced that I was 100% correct but when the reveal did come I was absolutely lost for words. To sum up a fast paced and gripping read that had me on the edge of my seat at times
