The House Sitter
by Keri Beevis
Pub Date: May 22 2025

The House Sitter was a fast-paced, suspenseful read told through the eyes of many different characters. I had a hard time knowing who to believe and who to trust! It's a story within a story if that makes sense...full of action and danger. A thriller you won't want to put down once you started reading! Many, many plot twists that kept me on the edge of my seat and that ending, WOW!

Synopsis: Sitting on the balcony one sweltering summer's evening in the midst of a power cut, I'm given a secret window into the lives of the residents in the opposite building, and I see more than I should. I'm drawn to a man in the penthouse and watch him closely and when a striking woman joins him on the balcony, I can’t tear my eyes away. The following weekend a woman matching her exact description is reported missing. She’s not been seen since that fateful night.
When I go to the police, the man in the penthouse has a cast-iron alibi and denies she was ever there.

Many Thanks to #TheHouseSitter #NetGalley and #BoldwoodBooks for providing me an E-ARC of this addictive psychological thriller!

Just finished the House Sitter and it was so satisfying. It was fast paced, relatable characters from the nosey people to the greaseball, and every one in between. With everyone having a back story and something to be guilty of, it makes for a fantastic read.

I am in the way to the Dr’s because the way my head spun and my jaw hit the floor: my head is hurting 🙂

I absolutely devoured The House Sitter! Keri Beevis has nailed the perfect blend of suspense, mystery, and psychological tension. From the very first page, I was hooked by the eerie setup—our main character, fresh off a breakup, agrees to house-sit her brother’s swanky apartment. Seems like the perfect escape... until she sees something strange from the balcony during a summer blackout.

That moment was so creepy and cinematic—I could feel the heat, the darkness, the eerie silence—and when she spotted something unsettling in the penthouse across the way, I was just as captivated as she was. What follows is a tense unraveling of truth, lies, and danger that had me flipping pages late into the night.

One of the things I loved most was how real and relatable the narrator felt. She’s curious, a little impulsive, but determined to do the right thing, even when everyone’s telling her she’s wrong. The paranoia is so well done—I was constantly wondering who could be trusted. Every time I thought I had it figured out, Beevis threw in another curveball. And the final twist? Totally nailed it.

This book gave me Rear Window vibes with a modern, fresh twist. It’s got that perfect mix of voyeurism, mystery, and psychological tension that makes for such a compelling read. Plus, the writing is super engaging—not overly complex, but evocative and fast-paced.

If you love thrillers with unreliable witnesses, hidden secrets, and a constant sense of unease, The House Sitter needs to be on your radar!

Nina is house/cat-sitting at her brother's apartment. During a power outage, she is sitting on the apartment balcony and sees a neighbor on his balcony with a woman. That woman goes missing and nothing is as it seems.
This was suspenseful, but some parts dragged a bit. Good twists that kept me reading!

Recently single, Nina is house sitting for her brother when her eyes stumble upon a couple on the balcony across the courtyard in a rather compromising position. (Or, a couple of positions, if you catch my drift…)
Knowing she should stop, she can’t seem to pull her eyes away.

She wants to forget the whole thing, but when, a few days later, the woman from the balcony’s face is plastered all over the news as a “Missing Woman” Nina debates putting her embarrassment aside so she can tell the police what she witnessed.

But what did she see? Who did she see?
And what about the person who was watching her watch them?

Keri Beevis does it again.
Beevis is my go-to when I am in a reading slump: easy and engaging, her plots are always just twisted enough to engage me, and not so crazy that I can’t follow- she is my perfect brain candy, and The House Sitter is no exception.

While housesitting her brother’s fancy apartment, Nina is out on the balcony looking at the residents in the opposite building. When she notices a man in his penthouse on the balcony and then a pretty lady joins him. She’s curious.

A week later, Nina then discovers that a woman matching this lady’s exact description is missing. When she goes to the police, the man with the penthouse claims she’s was never there and has a solid alibi.

But Nina knows what she saw. And someone is now watching Nina. How much can she trust these neighbours?

This started off strong. I was intrigued. Who was this missing girl? Where did she go? What has Nina got herself into? I was invested! But as the book progressed I became bored. I think it was a little longer than it needed to be. I also wanted a little bit more thrilling moments in the middle. Overall, it was an interesting thriller.

Thank your for the opportunity to read The House Sitter. This story follows Nina who is having a bit of a rough patch and decides to house sit for her brother. What she doesn't know is a pair of binoculars and a power outage would create a cat and mouse situation that might cost her her life.

This book had suspicion, speculation, twists and a full circle ending. Would recommend!

Overall 4.5*

The story has plenty going on throughout and begins with the main character Nina watching her rich entitled neighbour having sex on his balcony during a power cut. Julian is a spoilt adult brat who always seems to get his own way however Nina is not afraid of him. The story ebbs and flows making the reader constantly question what is really going on and then with the usual Ms Beevis flair, she throws in a huge twist or two, at the end ,which I most certainly did not see coming.

The House Sitter is a twisty, voyeuristic thrill ride that had me side-eyeing my own neighbors. I mean, what is going on behind those curtains?

Fresh off a breakup, our main girl agrees to house-sit her brother’s swanky apartment. Sounds like a dream, right? Until a power outage, a sultry summer night, and a little innocent balcony-watching spiral into a full-blown missing woman mystery. Suddenly, she’s not just sipping wine—she’s tangled in lies, danger, and some seriously shady neighbor drama.

Keri Beevis nails the pacing—fast, punchy, and just the right amount of “wait, WHAT?!” The writing is sharp, the tension is tight, and the characters are layered enough to keep you guessing who’s trustworthy (spoiler: almost no one). If you love your thrillers twisty and your main characters bold enough to poke the bear, this one’s for you.

Short, snappy, and totally bingeable—go on, peek behind the blinds.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this advance copy for my honest, voluntary review.

First of all, let me just say—if anyone asks me to house-sit after reading this, the answer is a hard no. If I ever do decide to house-sit, I’m minding my business and staying far, far away from any suspicious activity, LOL. This book was a rollercoaster of suspense. The way no one believed our main character drove me crazy—I was literally shouting, "Give her the benefit of the doubt!" It’s like everyone just kept gaslighting her, and I was so frustrated. But that tension made the story all the more thrilling. I honestly thought any one of the characters could’ve been the killer at some point, and I loved the constant guessing game.

The suspense in this one is definitely top-tier, and it’s a psychological thriller through and through. The atmosphere is creepy, and the way the story unfolds kept me hooked. I can’t say I was totally blown away by the ending, but it was solid. All in all, I really enjoyed it! If you’re looking for a book that’ll have you paranoid about everyone, it’s definitely worth the read!

“The House Sitter” is a novel that takes you on a whirlwind while we follow Nina, who is recently single and house sitting for her brother, and a mystery unfolding in a unit in the building across from her. This story is told in multiple POV’s (which I always love!) and a lot of unreliable narrators (also love!) so this will keep you guessing or have you thinking you’ve got it figured out until the very end. I also very much enjoyed the short chapters/fast paced vibe of this book, while still keeping a decent character development throughout.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Book Review

📖📖📖📖📖

Thank you to @netgalley and @theboldbookclub for this advanced readers copy, due out May 22nd!

I read this book over a twenty-four hour period. I could not put it down! I had it all figured out so early on, but I was SO WRONG!

The main character, Nina, breaks up with her boyfriend and moves into her brother’s sublet apartment to cat sit while he’s away. On the first night the power goes out and while looking for candles, she stumbles across a pair of high powered binoculars.

The rest, wowza. What does she see on that first night? And how will what she sees turn into a twisty case of who done it.

Deceit, fatal attraction, a budding romance, a whole cast of characters that could be the criminal… it’s all right here within these pages.

Grab this one next week!

3.5 Stars

In The House Sitter, Keri Beevis delivers a slow-burning mystery wrapped in suspense. After a recent breakup, Nina retreats to her brother’s apartment to cat-sit while he’s away. One night, during a power outage and with her phone nearly dead, boredom leads her to the window, where she finds herself watching the penthouse across the street. What starts off as a harmless distraction takes a chilling turn when she sees a woman sharing an intimate moment with her neighbor… and then a few days later she learns that same woman has gone missing.
Nina begins digging into the mystery herself. Her search uncovers more questions than answers, especially when she discovers a pattern of other missing women. Could it all be connected? And what exactly is her neighbor hiding?
While the story was too slowly for my personal taste, the short chapters kept it from dragging too much. What really saved it for me was the twist toward the end; I didn’t see it coming, and it made the journey worthwhile. Told in multiple POV, mostly in 3rd person, it can be read as a standalone novel. Overall, I had fun reading it and hope you enjoy it as well!
