I really enjoyed The Selection trilogy. I remember picking it up in my schools library while I sat out from a PE lesson, and somehow, in that short amount of time, managed to finish half of the book. I went home, ordered it and the rest, and devoured them. This was a few years ago now (but then The Heir is a few years old too!) and when I heard the series would be continued on with their daughter, I was incredibly excited. While I didn't enjoy The Heir as much as I did the original trilogy, it wasn't completely awful - but I think that was mostly owed to my nostalgia of the original 3 novels, as opposed to the new addition of Eadlyn. |
Couldn't really get into this one but I would recommend to anyone who enjoyed the series as it gives you more in depth background |
This is just the first ten chapters of The Heir, but they are ten of the better chapters out of the book so I wouldn't be surprised if this turned quite a few people into purchasers. I don't feel as though this series needed to be extended (especially because their simple existence spoils the ending of the original trilogy, which feels like a kick in the teeth for any readers who will potentially start this series since the publication of this extension) but I'm grateful for the fact that the books are just as short and quick to read as the original three, as they don't take up too much time at all. |
I was a huge fan of The Selection Series. It was the dystopian bachelor and an obvious guilty pleasure. Then, that series ended. I was ready for it, it was a suitable ending and we all prepared for what Cass would make next. I have to admit though, I was disappointed in this book. It felt like a re-mastering of the original series and that was difficult to accept. I was wanting something new and different from a writer I loved, but I read a book that was basically something I already read. |
I've loved every book in this series and while The Heir wasn't about the characters in the previous books, I still fully enjoyed it. I love Maxon and it was great to see him as a dad and pass on his knowledge to his kids. The romance and the drama were intense and intriguing and the characters even more so. |
I really enjoyed the fact that Kiera Cass added another aspect to this series. I know I am controversial in saying that but this book flips the whole royal family lineage on its head and now it is the princess that has to choose a prince for when she becomes queen. I really really enjoyed this book because I found it really interesting making the comparisons between the first all-female selection, and this new, all-male selection. I think that having Eadlyn as the star of this novel was great. She is a strong, confident girl who definitely knows her own mind and this creates for some brilliant moments in the Royal family. She has some great dramatic scenes and it isn't any less romantic because it is men vying for the crown this time. I really loved revisiting characters from the original selection series as well. |
Was a 'did-not-finish' after a few chapters. I just could not get into the story and the series as a whole. |
