Safe with Me is a clever psychological thriller which gets right under your skin and makes you feel a little on edge, worried for the characters and at times a little sad. The book is told from multiple POV which may or may not be accurate or truthful. Anna is a postal worker who leads a simple and rather solitary life of work and occasional social interaction with an elderly neighbour until she witnesses a road accident which changes her life and brings in a new friend to her social circle and an old adversary from her sad childhood past. But who is Anna's friend and who is her enemy? Who is Anna safe with? An intriguing book which will have you thinking about it after you have put the book down. Perfect for fans of Mel Sharrat and Angela Marsons. I note that the next KL Slater book is due out soon, I can't wait to read that one too. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to read and review this exciting debut novel in exchange for an honest review. |
This was my first book by Slater, but it won't be my last! One thing I noticed very quickly was that she is very good at creating a mood and tension, which lingered throughout the whole book. The characters were interesting and mysterious, and I kept wondering who could be trusted. This was a real page turner and the ending was both excited and clever. Can't wait for the author's next work! |

Great story, hooked from page 1. Thanks for the advanced copy |
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this review copy. Anna is a postwoman. She lives with her cat, has no family and no friends. One day she witnesses a road traffic collision involving a car and a motorbike. She stays with the motorcyclist until the ambulance comes, but whilst there she recognises the woman driver of the car. It’s someone from her past and someone who she has been looking for for 13 years. She makes it her mission to find out where she lives and to do this she needs to befriend Liam, the motorcyclist, and his grandmother. By doing this she starts to neglect her work life and, not having time to finish her post round, she begins bringing the undelivered mail home with her. This brings complaints for customers on her round who aren’t getting their expected post, and in turn, the Post Office starts an investigation to find out exactly what is going on. Anna has every intention of delivering the post when she can, but the obsession with Amanda, the woman driver, takes over her life. The story is told mainly from Anna’s perspective. We also have the perspective 13 years earlier from Carla, a school counsellor, who is counselling Anna’s troubled brother Daniel. Early on in the story, it’s not said who Amanda is, but you can work out the general idea, and it’s not until the story progresses that you understand why Anna is so obsessed with Amanda. I loved the storyline with Anna’s job also. I’ve never really thought about the workers who deliver our post and what a big responsibility they have, and it was interested to read how this works, particularly investigations into missing post. I’m not sure whether I liked Anna as a character. One minute you feel sorry for her and her situation, and the next you just want to shout at her to stop being so silly. Liam and his grandmother are also another part of the story that you can’t work out. You just know there’s something strange going on, but can’t work out what. The story did get a bit complicated at parts as the timeline moves back and forward 13 years, but there were plenty of twists and turns to keep it moving. There were a couple of bits which I didn’t quite get and felt they weren’t really explained (I won’t mention which as I don’t want to spoil the plot) but in all it was a good psychological thriller which kept me page turning to the end. |
There is only one word to describe this book and that is boring. The plot is slow and confused. Nothing thrilling about this at all. |

Nothing is better than to read a good suspense book; however, this one was just a little to gory and sinister for my taste. |

I love how this book is filled with twists and turns, some of which are a little bit predictable but most kept me interested and looking forward to the next. The book reads quickly and flows well. I enjoyed the complexity of the story and the characters. This book is one of the most original psychological thrillers that I have read in a long time. I really appreciated that this book did not follow the typical mystery or thriller narrative of the rusty cop trying to find the killer. I felt myself becoming emotionally attached to the characters and invested in their stories. |
This novel is brimming with psychos, but just wait until you meet creepy Anna! A motorcycle accident Anna witnesses brings back memories of what happened during the dark days 13 years ago, and as she befriends the injured party at the scene, a plan of revenge against the driver begins to materialize in her crazy mixed up brain. With a heavy workload at the Royal Mail Service, an elderly neighbor friend to check in on and her new secret plan of attack to carry out (combined with a bit of OCD), Anna finds herself overextended, but soon connives a way to adjust her schedule........Ha! SAFE WITH ME takes the reader in a myriad of directions as a disturbed Anna reeks her havoc and reveals the truth making for an entertaining and crazy good thriller. Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in return for an unbiased review. |

Thirteen years ago Anna's family suffered a terrible tragedy and Anna knows exactly who is responsible...... currently Anna is living the life of a recluse, one day she witnesses an accident and who is to blame, but that same person who caused the tragedy in her familys lives all those years ago.. what is it that they say about revenge!! Really enjoyed this book x |

A page turner. This is a book that you talk about long after finished reading. Read it in a day and a half since I couldn't put it down. |

This is my favorite genre. But I just couldn't wrap my head around the plot. If you go by the description, you will be expecting some mind-boggling psychological drama. But personally, while reading the book, I couldn't understand why so many fractured narrators were required to describe the book. While the character of Anna has been done with eerie precision, I still found myself getting lost between the various tones of narration and multiple sub-plots. My rating: 2.5 out of 5 |
