James Strait, former FBI agent once hailed an American hero for stopping a major terrorist attack, wants to put his violent life behind him, but the past won't let him go.

He settles happily into his small hometown of Pine River, taking up hiking and the acoustic guitar and rereading Dostoyevsky novels. Then someone bombs his home, kills the woman he loves, and frames him for the crimes. His plan to hunt down those responsible is sidetracked by a homeless teen who comes to him seeking help finding her missing mother and protection from her violent stepfather. I read this as an ARC from Net Galley

I enjoyed this kind of 'topical' thriller adventure and got a few laughs from the 'straight' guy James Strait who is deferentially that.

This will not having you thinking deep thoughts but the interaction with Amanda and the Meniere’s disease piece was unique and informative.

Loved this book. Plenty of devious surprises and crackling suspense, along with interesting characters. Just the sort of book to cause a lack of sleep, but I won't complain! Highly recommended.

*This book was provided to me as an ARC at no charge in exchange for my honest review. My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to participate in this program.*
