Autumn is me, and I am Autumn! I loved this book!
Meet Autumn, a nursing student focused on the prize. The prize? A BSN so she can be independent (sing it like the song when you say this) after a bad breakup. She has a plan, and none involves any emotional entanglements.
Jensen was.. well.. Jensen. Swoon. Smart, kind, awkward, and just.. ahhh. Yes, I said ahh. He is a doctor who is trying to get his life back together after a nasty ex went around the hospital spreading hate about him (my heart genuinely hurt for him - what's so bad, is this happens in real life ALL the time!).
I laughed out loud reading this book. The banter was on point! This book has some SPICE!
The tension! You will need a #20 blade for this one, honey.
This had just the right amount of slow-burn romance.
Autumn and Jensen have baggage, but they enter into a fake relationship and I loved it. The way their feelings developed was real, and I just had that feel-good feeling throughout the development of their love in the plot.
I wish I could tell you so much more because I love this book, but I don't want to give out more than I already did!
The plot is well structured, and the pace is just right for the plot.
The characters are well developed and so relatable.
I found myself, a nurse of 15 years, really getting into this one.
Perfect for a quick summer read. Add this immediately to your TBR I don't think you will regret it. If you do, I am not sorry! lol.. well, sort of.. but this book was great!
Thank you so much to Amanda Nelson and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC and review it.
Happy Reading, Friends!

Sweet, Sassy, and Satisfyingly Slow-Burn
Just What the Doctor Hired is a charming slow-burn romance with just the right mix of heart and heat. Autumn and Jensen are both carrying emotional baggage, which makes their fake relationship feel surprisingly real and relatable. I liked how the book didn’t rush things—watching their walls come down felt earned. It was an easy, feel-good read that made me smile more than once, and I was rooting for them the whole way through.

I loved this book! I think it was a good light hearted read. I loved the short chapters and the character development. As a life long Grey's Anatomy fan, I devoured this book! I think this book will be a big hit when it is released. I will definitely be talking about this book on BookTok.

This book had me giggling, swooning, and texting my bestie halfway through like “OK BUT THIS FAKE-DATE SITUATION IS GETTING SPICY.” 🌶️ Autumn is all “men are trouble,” and Jensen’s like “I just needed a plus one, not these feelings,” and suddenly BAM—fireworks! The banter? Chef’s kiss. The tension? Thicker than hospital oatmeal. If you’re into fake relationships that turn too real too fast, grab this book and thank me later! 💋🩺💃

This was an ARC read and I’m so thankful I was allowed to read it before publication!

This was such an adorable little read! I wouldn’t say it was like any of the other romance books I’ve read. Of course they had their happily ever after but it didn’t happen quite like I thought it would, which I loved! This book drew me in from the start. It could easily be a 5/5 star book but I’m sooooo picky on which books get 5 stars. I’d say it’s 4.5 rounded down because I can’t get myself to give it a 5. But it’s SOOOO good and I highly recommend the read!!

Amanda Nelson and Lisa-Marie Potter could absolutely teach a masterclass on writing tension and angst. Just What the Doctor Hired had me obsessed from the start, and the character development between Autumn and Jensen was everything I wanted and more.

Autumn begins as a laser-focused nursing student determined to protect her independence after a painful breakup. Her commitment to avoiding emotional entanglements is tested the moment she meets Jensen as a Plus One client- and watching her wrestle with those shifting feelings was one of my favorite parts of the story. She’s honest with herself, even when it hurts, and her internal conflict felt so real.

And Jensen is easily one of my favorite MMCs ever. He’s smart, kind, a little awkward in the best way, and completely swoon-worthy. The fact that he’s still picking up the pieces after a toxic ex spread hospital gossip made me ache for him. His hesitation to let people know about his arrangement with Autumn made perfect sense- and the tension between them was OFF. THE. CHARTS. Every scene they shared was overflowing with chemistry, constantly toeing the line between their contractual fake relationship and something very real.

I loved how Jensen’s friends- especially Dan and his wife- embraced Autumn so naturally. And the portrayal of Autumn’s Dad and Papi? Beautiful. Their relationship was treated as completely normal (as it should!), without being a plot point, and it added so much warmth to the story. The subtle theme of acceptance threaded through everything in a way that felt organic and genuine.

The pacing was tight, the emotional beats landed, and the HEA was so satisfying. Nelson and Potter are not just fantastic writers- they're genuinely lovely women, and it shows in every page. I will devour anything and everything they write. Fin’s story can’t come soon enough!

Just What the Doctor Hired is a novel by writing duo Amanda Nelson and Lisa-Marie Potter. Dr. Jensen Edwards is a pediatric hospitalist. He’s been keeping his head down and focusing on his work since pharmacist Kayla cheated on him, then left him for oncologist Dr. Andrew Lee. The hurt was awful but the embarrassment was immense. Then, when it was learned that Kayla was a gold digger and left him for Andrew’s greater income it was like adding insult to injury.

When Jensen needs a date for a dinner where he will be honored as a top doc, he asks friend and author Molly Covington to be his plus one. While she initially agrees she then reneges when she and her boyfriend get back together. But so as not to leave Jensen high and dry, Molly hires a Plus One companion for the evening. Having met her fellow through Plus One, Molly gets a good recommendation and researches the lady before making the contract.

Autumn Haze is a BSN student, adding this to her psychology degree. She is making ends meet, but barely, by working at the ferry toll booths full time and also as a Plus One companion on weekends. She refuses to take any more money from her dads. They already paid for her first degree and that’s enough. While most of her clients are well mannered, there is the occasional jerk who insists on a different sort of service, but she promptly cancels those contracts upon meeting and leaves. This is one reason why she only meets clients in public places, doesn’t use her real name at work, and never gives out personal details, especially contact information.

Molly selects Autumn, makes the arrangements, and gives Jensen the meeting information. While nervous, Jensen is made very comfortable by Autumn and they click on how the evening should go. In fact, the chemistry is off the charts And they hate to see the evening end.

This is a different kind of romance tale and I really enjoyed it! I do recommend this book!

Thank you to Netgalley and Wild Rose Press for the advanced reader's copy of Just What the Doctor Hired.

This was a delightful and charming story full of warmth, humor, and heart. From the very first chapter, I was hooked by the characters’ chemistry and the fresh take on the opposites attract trope. The main characters are likable and have rich backstories that make their connection feel natural. I especially appreciated how the authors balanced lighthearted banter with moments of emotional depth. The pacing was spot-on, never dragging, and always moving the story forward in satisfying ways. A great contemporary romance with heart and humor.

Thank you to Netgalley, BookBuzz, and Amanda Nelson & Lisa-Marie Potter for this ARC. I will be giving my honest review.
This book starts off with Autumn who works as a companion which means people hire her to pretend to be their date or girlfriend. She gets hired to go to a doctors award ceremony to be someone's date. Jensen is receiving an award and his date cancelled on him, so his friend suggested using this companion service where he gets paired up with Autumn. They meet and instantly have a pull towards one another. Jensen catches feelings for Autumn when he learns more about her, like she's in nursing school, and she enjoys watching football and hiking. Jensen hires Autumn to pretend to be his girlfriend for a few more times until they cannot deny their chemistry.
I immediately knew this would give me Grey's Anatomy vibes. The characters have a witty back and forth throughout. I enjoyed seeing the instant connection between the two from their separate POVs. Both of the main characters are humble and genuine. The mmc is so sincere and caring towards everyone in his life. Jensen is a pediatric doctor with messy light brown hair and green eyes so obviously I pictured Jensen Ackles the entire book. I felt like this book was a perfect fit for me and I would recommend it.
"Doctors and nurses. It's a bit cliche, don't you think?"
"I don't know. it seems to work for McDreamy."

What I found especially sweet was the instant connection between Autumn and Jensen. Their chemistry felt genuine right from the start, which made rooting for them easy. I also loved how Autumn’s passion for sports was woven into the story—it added a fun layer to her character and really helped her fit so naturally into Jensen’s friend group. The hiking scenes were a great touch too, giving their relationship a relaxed, real-world vibe that I appreciated.

That said, I have to be honest—the third-act breakup really threw me off. It felt abrupt and poorly handled for both characters, and honestly, it undercut a lot of the connection they’d built up. The pacing of that part was too fast, and the reasons behind the breakup didn’t feel convincing enough to justify what happened. It made it harder to stay fully invested in their relationship at that point.

Even with that rough patch, the book has its heart in the right place and delivers a sweet romance that I enjoyed. Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the ARC!

Jensen’s date for the best doctors in Seattle ceremony cancelled on him at the last minute and hired a “Plus One” companion to replace her at the dinner. Knowing his gloating ex-girlfriend, Kayla, will be at the dinner and not wanting to show up dateless, he accepts. Autumn accompanies Jensen to the dinner posing as his girlfriend. And what starts as a simple business arrangement soon turns into much more. Both feel sparks fly as they spend time together and both are afraid to acknowledge it until it becomes too much to ignore. This was a well written, clean rom com with a somewhat predictable plot, but with enough nuances thrown in to make it an unputdownable read. In fact the sun was setting as I finished reading while enjoying the summer evening at the lake. 4.5 stars rounded to 5 Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book. It had romance, great family relationships and examples of supportive friendships. A real weaving together of strands and a bit of hospital visiting and issues to add a bit of flavour. Jensen is a gorgeous doctor, but is hung up and wary after being dumped and becoming the subject of the hospital gossip. This leaves him in a hard place emotionally when he meets Autumn through an escort service. Autumn is lovely - fiesty, knowing her own worth and the author gives her a real voice and personality and a great one at that. The relationships are slowly exposed over the book and what came out strongly to me was the amazing bond Autumn had with her two dads and how great they were as a couple too.

I really loved this book so much. It gave me exactly what I wanted. I couldn’t stop smiling while reading. Autumn and Jensen are both amazing characters. I connected with Autumn right away, she felt so real to me. And Jensen was just perfect. What I liked most was the banter between them. It was so funny and natural, I was laughing out loud a few times. Also, the tension was chef’s kiss.
Also, I liked the hospital setting. Everything felt real but not heavy. This book is great if you want something light and romantic but with enough depth to keep you hooked. When I say I devoured this book, I mean I couldn’t put it down until I finished it. I think this might be in my top 5 reads for the year so far.

Just What the Doctor Hired is a romance novel about a nursing student (Autumn) and a doctor (Jensen). Autumn is paying for her schooling by working for a companion service, being paid to go on dates. Jensen hires Autumn for a date to get his family and friends off his back. The two have chemistry from the beginning but both have doubts about starting a relationship. I loved all the main characters of this book and just couldn’t put it down after I started reading.

I’d rate this book 5/5 stars ⭐️

Just What the Doctor Hired releases July 9th! This book is the second in a duology, but can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read book one yet but it’s now in my tbr! 🤗

Autumn Haze has a motto no men until she has completed her bachelor of nursing degree, she has stuck to this so far. Autumn moonlights as a companion through Plus one to support herself through her degree. Enter Dr Jenson Edwards who is still moping after his last break up left him talk of the hospital, when he receives a best doctor award Jenson hires Autumn as his plus one for the ceremony. When they form a budding relationship Autumns resolve is tested and Jenson worries about what would happen if the truth is revealed that he hired Autumn as a companion.

I really enjoyed this book, the relationship between the leads felt very genuine and they were perfect for each other. Jenson is the perfect book boyfriend and so sweet, he compliments Autumn perfectly. I liked Autumn’s no nonsense best friend Lilly she was awesome. There isn’t much drama in this book until the end but it was a lovely gentle love story and I was routing for Autumn and Jenson all the way. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend this book, 5+ stars from me.

I really enjoyed this romance story. Despite being a successful and handsome doctor, Jensen has had his heart broken and can't seem to find a woman who is right for him. He hires Summer to be his girlfriend for a function, but when they meet, the chemistry between them is very real.
I really enjoyed their romance as it unfolded, and thought that they made a great pairing. I loved their story and thought that for the most part it was realistic and really drew me in. I was horrified by the way the whole insurance and paying for the hospital unfolded when she had appendicitis. I don't know how true that is, but it's monstrous.
I really enjoyed this book and I'd certainly be keen to read more in this series.

❗️MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS❗️

Overall: I loved it A LOT. Every moment of it. It was beautifully written and the whole action, plot, ATE IT UP. I fell in love with the characters and their relationships were so sweet. The tension? Was there. One word: AMAZING (book).

Likes:
•the description, perfect, it wasn’t pure romance, but rather fiction. Which gave the book uniqueness and depth.
•the character development. I loved how the authors showed not only the beauty of characters, but also flaws. The plot when Jensen fucked up was perfect to show that we all make mistakes and that actions speak louder than words
•the social areas shown. I loved how we had different areas (the hospital, the football games, the Plus One work, Autumn’s college) and how they showed each perspective, we knew a lot but it wasn’t too much, just the right amount of description and details
•the romance. It was beautiful, pure romance. I loved how it clearly was love, not only physical attraction. Their relationship was perfectly balanced (ofc between love and lust)

Dislikes (not really)
I cannot say I have a dislike in terms of the literal book, but personal preference.
I WAS SO ANNOYED BY LILY (Autumn’s best friend). I get it she was on her side BUT OMG GIRL, JENSEN ISN’T LIKE MATTEO (Autumn’s ex). I hated how she compared so muchhhhh Jensen with her ex when he was COMPLETELY IN LOVE with Autumn. Omg, it ate my soul!

It was a great reading experience, I loved every moment. The trope was clearly shown (the fake dating) and the development of the characters and the world was perfect. The end? BEAUTIFUL.
I would recommend it 100%!! It’s a cute romantic story that touched my heart. If I could, it would give it more than 5 stars🫶🏻
