Surprisingly short book that was a bit of a strange mixture. It had good writing but while it is a short book it is also in parts pretty boring and ultimately felt very outdated.
All in all not my favourite.

I had a very hard time with this book. I started it several times. I just could not get into it, even though it sounded interesting. There is a couple planning a wedding, which has nothing to do really with the murders. There are 2 murders, one from about 50 years ago and one present day. What do they have in common? To be honest, I would not recommend this book, as it was quite boring. The writing itself was not bad, but the characters were uninteresting and the plot was boring. Sorry, this one was just not for me.

Someone Lying, Someone Dying
by John Burke
I was intrigued by the plot right off the bat. A murder that occurred many years before, a wedding that might never take place, a family whose name is tarnished by deception and mystery. all added up to make a great story. The characters were believable and the situations they encountered were realistic. Glad it wasn't me!

I'd read this book again and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a good mystery.

Brigid and Martin are planning their wedding. This part of the book really didn’t interest me. In fact, it was boring.

While the writing style was okay, it was nothing to write home about. I guess this book just wasn’t for me.

Thanks to Netgalley and Endeavour Press for forwarding a copy of this book to me.

First published in 1968. There were some interesting portions, but it felt dated. Not because of the actual date, more about the style. I almost put it down because the first chapter was so annoying, but it did get better.

When the remains of a body are found in the cellar of an abandoned house, the quiet community of Lurgate finds itself in a state of shock…

The body is identified as that of Walter Blythe, a local businessman who disappeared in 1913.

At the same time as Walter’s disappearance, a large sum of money was also taken from the business he co-owned with his partner, Victor Johnson.

Now, decades later, Victor Johnson posthumously becomes the prime suspect in Walter’s murder.

The news comes as a shock to Victor’s granddaughter, Brigid, who is planning her wedding with her fiancé Martin. But with family secrets coming to light, will the wedding still go ahead?

And when Walter Blythe’s long-lost grandson, Peter, is found dead in town shortly after his arrival, it appears that a ruthless killer is once again on the loose.

Who will be the next victim?

And what really happened to Walter Blythe?

A good all round read that had me gripped and turning the pages and before I realised it was finished!! ACE.

What is the connection between a disappearance in 1913, a body discovered fifty years later, and a murdered man.
This book was okay, not really that interesting, the story or the characters, or the writing style.. It got the two stars because I finished it.
