Hilarious journey of parenthood as told from a father's perspective. I identified with most of what he wrote being a newish dad myself. Dummy is laugh-out loud funny and everything is true!

I need to start by saying that I have a personal interest in this book as I work with Matt's partner (Charlie's mother) and have followed this story from the first Facebook posts which went viral, through to the book deal and publication of Dummy.
The subtitle doesn't do the book justice - Matt comes over as anything but an inept parent, though he does delight in recounting the trials and tribulations he encounters as he tries to do the best he can as a new father, hoovering up, and then ignoring a lot of professional, and conflicting advice along the way.
His key message, that if you love your child and use your common sense then all will be well, is a good one. And the love and respect he shows for Lyndsay and Charlie are touching.
It is very very funny, and irreverent - some of his responses to the internet trolls are hilarious and witty putdowns.
The only thing that grated with me was the overuse of 'fucking' as the adjective of choice - it's scattered like stardust throughout the book and pulled me up short every time. But then my children are grown up and I'm hardly the key demographic the book is aimed at (I'm assuming new parents, particularly new fathers). I can say that I would have loved loved loved this when my children were babies.
