I have to confess I found this book hard to get into. I didn't finish it. I would go back and try again though.

Thank you Netgalley for letting me review this book. I absolutely loved it but wish I had read the earlier books with Eva and Rourke so I would have got a better understand of the characters and the rest of the gang. This is the first book I have read by this author and will certainly be looking out for more and ordering earlier books

Echoes in Death finds Eve investigating the brutal torture and rape of Daphne Strazza and the murder of Anthony, her talented but domineering husband. Daphne is found by Eve and Roarke when she wanders dazed and confused in front of their car in the early hours of the morning.

This is not a solitary attack, the victims are all wealthy, childless couples who are violated in their own homes by someone dressed to impress, if, that is, you are impressed by Devil's, Ghouls and Vampires. The attacker mercilessly brutalises both Mr and Mrs while using their bedroom as his own personal theatre and then finally, he releases them. But with the death of Anthony Strazza he now has a taste for killing and the escalation begins. So, the stage is set ....

Eve and her team are on the case but she struggles with this one, it brings back her own difficult past, will these echoes help or hinder her in solving the case?

'In Death' number 44, that's 44 books, that really is amazing, we have followed Eve, Roarke et al. through 44 cases, we have seen friendships bloom, love grow and case after case solved. And the stories, they aren't old, they aren't tired, every one of them is different, original and holds you interest - how on earth she does that I truly don't know, I just know I'm already looking forward to number 45.

Thank-you to Ms Robb for a great novel and thanks to Netgalley for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Echoes in Death is my first read of the 44-book deep In Death catalogue featuring Lt. Eve Dallas, a New York police officer. Whilst, the back story of the characters (or even the slightly futuristic setting) are not really explained there are more than enough context clues to allow me to follow along.
After going out with her rich husband, Roarke, they find a naked woman, stumbling the streets, covered in blood. At the hospital it is confirmed the woman has been brutally attacked and repeatedly raped; by the devil. Upon searching her house, the police find her husband has been killed by the same attacker. Soon Dallas has linked this attack to two previous similar cases, where a wealthy couple were attacked in their home by "Dracula" and a ghoul. Noticing the pattern Dallas is now trying to discover who the attacker is, whilst attempting to warn similar couples who fit the victims' description.
I found Echoes in Death a fairly "by-the-numbers" thriller. The plot moved along at a decent pace and the story was interesting enough to keep my attention. I don't think I'll rush out to read the rest of the collection, but I did enjoy it.

One-Sentence Summary: Dallas hunts a serial killer targeting rich married couples

Review: 44 books into this series and J.D.Robb is nothing but consistent in her greatness.

For those trying out this series for the first time, you will enter a world that despite being set in the future and having all the benefits of superior technology (Autochefs, gliders, droids …), there are still some things which have never changed from the present day: humans still kill each other and human detectives are still needed to solve these crimes. Dallas and her tightknit team, including her billionaire husband Roarke, will always make sure justice is served.

For those who are familiar with Eve and Roarke then whilst the case does not involve or directly affect Dallas or her small circle of family and friends, it hits a little too close to home given what she went through as a child and it is interesting watching her try to solve the case whilst keeping those memories at bay.

As ever some of Dallas’s banter with Peabody and Roarke is one of my favourite things about the book, as is the ever faithful cat Galahad.

I think it’s fair to say that this is an all round welcome addition to this solid series.

In ‘Echoes in Death’ Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke find a naked, abused and confused woman in front of their car. The woman is covered in blood and it’s not all her own. Soon Dallas finds out the woman’s husband is murdered in their home and soon they learn there are two more cases that look just like this one. And before they know it they learn more disturbing things about their murderer and his victims.

I was so thrilled when I found myself being grabbed by this story from the moment I read the first page. After not really enjoying the previous book in this series I was afraid I wouldn’t like this one either, which would be really disappointing because I liked the other books I read so much. Thankfully I really loved this book from the first page till the very end. ‘Echoes in Death’ was disturbing, thrilling and exciting and I just couldn’t stop reading. I read in ‘Echoes in Death’ in just one sitting because I just wasn’t able to put the book away.

There were a view people in this book I found suspicious. And I loved finding out the clues two who the murderer was. And when Dallas described the clues that made her mind up about who the murderer was I had a major ‘aha’ moment. I love when that happens and it definitely made for another great In Death book.

And not to forget.. I was great to read about Eve Dallas and Roarke again. I just love that couple. They are definitely one of my favorite married couples in books.
If you’re a fan of thrilling and exciting novels you definitely need to read ‘Echoes in Death’.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for an advance copy of Echoes In Death, the 44th police procedural to feature Lieutenant Eve Dallas, set in New York 2062.

Eve and her husband Roarke are returning from a charity do when they almost run over an injured, naked woman. They rush her to hospital, establish her identity and go to her house to find her husband dead, both are apparently victims of a home invasion. Further investigation reveals that the couple, Daphne and Anthony Strazza, are actually the third attack but the first murder.

I have not read many novels in this series and those I have were years ago so it feels like picking up a new series. It works mostly as a stand alone although I think it might have worked a bit better if I had had a better understanding of Eve's childhood which plays a part in the novel. Otherwise it is a fairly standard investigation into a serial rapist with a few bells and whistles to make it seem dystopian. Given the way technology has advanced in the last 25 years the setting is not particularly convincing.

The plot has a few twists and turns but most are fairly obvious and I guessed them quite early on, not so much the why but the who.

I also think some of the writing and dialogue is quite clunky.

I do, however, like the characters. Eve is smart, intuitive and kick ass and her partner Peabody gets some good lines.

Echoes In Death is a solid read with some good characters.

After 44 books, this is one of the few series I'm pretty sure I will love forever. Eve and Roarke knows no limits and their stories are as cool as ever. J.D.Robb (aka Nora Roberts) please tell me your secret!!!!

THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!

Another superb book in the 'In Death' series .

Her feet are killing her , her head is still buzzing with the inane chatter she has endured at the Charity event she has attended with her gorgeous husband , BUT , at last Eve is on her way home .
Out of the nowhere a naked , bloody, battered young women steps into the path of their car .
Daphne Strazza has been the victim of a savage attack and rape in her own home , in which Eve finds her husband , Dr. Anthony Strazza , dead.
Daphne is traumatised by the assault and can only say that her attacker was 'The Devil' .
On initial investigation Eve realises there are links to two other brutal assaults in which the attacker has worn a costume/disguise ,and in which the husbands were forced to watch their wives rapes - but THEY had all been left alive .
Eve realises she needs to go back to the beginning , to the first case and start the investigation there .
Another couple are found , but this time both are dead .It seems that the perpetrator is escalating and Eve must use all her wits to stop him before more couples are killed .
Eve finds that this case is bringing to the fore her long held nightmares of her childhood and needs all the Love and support that Roarke can provide .

This book was a much more detective driven book rather than most of the previous books which are more character driven . I was a little disappointed that there was little of the usual banter between the main characters which so enhances these books .
That being said this was a very good , entertaining romantic suspense novel by an excellent author .
I was given an arc of this book by the Publisher and Netgalley to read in return for an honest review .
